Odd spells on the Magus List

Round 1: Magus

Couple of spells just seem a bit out of place maybe its just me

The Shapeshift Spells and Transforamtion.

now on a wizard sure they have a limited use. you can turn into the paper beatstick limited only by your HP and lack of combat feats and have asome fun mixing it up in melee

or more usually using shape forms to fly and stay the hell away from melee

there also some fun to be had making you familiar a giant or dragon.

BUT

The Magus ?

Spellstrike and Spell Combat

neither work in an alternate form , both require a weapon and you lose you weapon if you shift and none of the shifted forms can hold a weapon either.

also transformation

you can now hit like a fighter but again spellstrike and spell combat can't be used and at that level you WANT to be using them

transformation is even less noticeable becuase your 3/4BAB not 1/2BAB

I mean sure there's no harm in having some shapeshifting spells there for utility so I'll grant I'd rather have them than not but as far as combat goes you'd never want to use them they are the lower end of the shapeshift scale and the bonus don't make up for what your losing.

and transforamtion I can't think of a single instance a Magus could benefit from losing his casting for an extra attack and better chance to hit.

Yeah, I found the polymorph spells to be a bit weird, too.

If this were a spontaneous caster, where your spell selection determines your build, I suppose I could see it. Then you could pick polymorph spells and play a shapeshifting magus build as opposed to a buffing magus build as opposed to a blasting magus build.

But any magus can learn and cast any spell on the magus spell list. So the polymorph spells surprised me a bit. Not necessarily a bad thing, just a bit surprising. I'd have expected necromancy before polymorphing.

Actually, I was thinking ray of enfeeblement. But vampiric touch would be awesome.
