Spell Combat and spell trigger items

Spell combat is quite nice as it is but it seems like the class should offer the ability to use spell trigger items in addition to just casting. Heck it should be easier to use a spell trigger item that's in your off hand than cast a spell. Like Gandolf, sword in one hand, staff in the other, or at lower levels a wand.

Maybe Spell Combat could be expanded to wands, staffs and rods wielded in the "free" hand, while still requiring a concentration check to use the item and keeping the penalty to attacks?

This would also be a great idea for additional Magus Arcana!

A Magus Arcana that opened up spell trigger items for use with Spell Combat seems reasonable. It just seems strange that it's not even possible out the gate considering wands are easier to use than actual casting.
