Quick, question. I plan on running my players through the Runelords campaign setting and a PC is going to be a dwarf cavalier. I think a wolf mount would be pretty bad ass for a dwarf. I dont think a standard wolf could handle a dwarf in full armor and other things could handle it. If I make it a dire wolf, would that be game breaking and a bit much for 1st level PC and encounters? I havent looked up mounts yet, and dont know if wolfs are available, but I know dogs are.
last time I checked dwarf is a medium creature and thus needs to be on a Large mount.
if you want to ride a wolf you need to be small, dire wolf too pwoerful for level 1
if you want to houserule it I suggest this, use the stat block for a normal horse and just call it a wolf and have it look like a wolf
