Maximizing Armor Check Penalty

Advice

So I went over to my friends' and gleefully read the APG on his computer because the wait was killing me. Long story short, the Stalwart defender has an ability that actually gives you an incentive for having a big ACP, so I'm just wondering -- how big of a penalty can you get?

Scarab Sages

non-masterwork full plate = -6
non-masterwork tower shield = -10
heavy encumbrance = -6

It would seem the standard maximum would be -22

Hmm, Halfplate actually has a -7, though I still think you'd rather have the AC bonus, for for this exercise it'd be a better choice for a -23.

Encumbrance does not stack. You take the worse of the two modifiers.

Liberty's Edge

I am officially intrigued. What kind of incentive does the Stalwart Defender get from their ACP?

If I recall they add it to their CMD vs Acrobatics, and vs Bluff. So the highest we have right now is -17 ?

Wear broken armor. Double the ACP. :)

Excellent! Broken Halfplate and broken tower shield would give a total ACP of -34? Sweet! And hilarious to envision.

My friend gave me a good image for that power. You use bluff to feint one way. And the Defender is unable to actually GO that way due to this armor check penalty. So in the time it would take a normal person to dodge this way and leave himself open. The defender is still in the same spot.

Seriously. The image is hilarious.

I'm just imagining a rogue deftly and acrobatically lunging and bobbing and weaving about and then as he leads left, dashing right, directly into the stalwart defender who hits him with his axe and exclaims "My visor fell down! Steve, is that you? I told you that rust wasn't a good idea, I can barely move!"

only a slight problem with this idea

ok we walk across the bridge

arlight its midly slippery but is a simple DC5 check to make it across

d20-34 , oh it looks like your stalwart defender will fall to his death unless he rolls a natural 20, unless you want to wait while he gets naked to cross.

btw dosen't Stone Plate have an even higher armor check penalty ? or is it just heavier ?

Even with the natural 20, which is not an auto success with a skill check.

Oh. Don't forget to don this broken armor hastily, for another point of ACP! I think the "broken" status doesn't actually give ACP, it doubles the ACP for skill checks. Stalwart defender would take your base ACP. So I think we are back to -18 total though. But for the shear image of it.. -36 to skill checks.. like walking.

maybe you can increase it further by putting it on backwards , rusted joints ?

hell just get someone to cast flesh to stone on you if you can't move your ACP must be like -50 :)

i am not sure what this thread is about, does the stalwart defender gain a bonus based on his ACP?

Bulwark (Ex): The defender adds his armor check

penalty as a bonus to the DC of opponents attempting to
Bluff him and Acrobatics checks to pass by him without
provoking an attack of opportunity for moving through
spaces he threatens.

now this thread makes so much more sense to me, thanks
