So we've just hit level 15 in RoTR and only 1-2 sessions left in the entire campagin.
my wizard of course has just hit the reality altering fun of PAO however I though it best to run some idea through the rules section first.
Firstly
Juicing up the party. If I understand correctly POA can change a PC permanently into anything that falls under the greater polymorph spell.
1) So for example would I be able to change everyone in the group into Sphinx's giving them size bonus to STR CON, NAt Armor and a pair of wings plus the pounce ability for full attacking on a change and rakes if they are caught in a grapple.
Of course being large all our equipment is now the wrong size
2) but can POA be used to alter the size of existing magical items ? your not creating anything of value your just resizing something which would cost virtually the same if made from scratch. Considering that 1st level enlarge person can alter the size of everything worn I can't see this 8th level spell not being able to do it permanently.
3) If you take a bit of liberty, could you potentially argue that you can use Poly Any Object to grant a PC the benefits of a shape change without acutally turning them into a differnt animal
for exmaple, give them wings, there type dosent change they simply have a pair of natural wings stuck on the back.
say you use the beast shape 4 template, you can make a PC large or small, give them 1 movement speed from any listed in the spell, give them 1 sense from the spell, give them 1 ability from the spell, and make any cosmetic changes you think relevant in keeping with the granted abilities.
So for example I could give a PC the bonus of Large +6STR -2DEX +2CON +6Nat Armor, Climb 90,tremorsense 60, and resistance 20 fire.
4) moving away from the buffing side of things
fun stuff you can do with POA
Could you say
Stone to LAVA !
create 1500cu ft of LAVA right under a mob of monsters
Let them sink down into it taking a bunch of pain and then ice storm the area so the lava harderns on top trapping them and keeps burning them below the surface
or
5)
Stone to Water
Turn a dungeon floor into 30ft deep water wall to wall with every monster in the area falling in.
Following up with a Water to Stone and trapping them a few feet below the surface
or
Water to Ice so you can peer down at your trapped enemies and wave
or
Water to steam boiling the beasties
6)
What about using POA to turn an Ice Storm into Stone Storm ? or using it to modify spell which have a duration measured over rounds
POA to turn the small amount of acid left over from an acid arrow into a thick sticky acid slime covering the entire creature slowing its movement and burning it.
better yet
Stone to Pool of Acid 1500cu ft of acid for your enemies to fall into with no chance of being able to dive out pf the way if the area is large enough.
Heh where is the line ? is there a line ?
Any other fun uses of POA people have used in a game before ?

Lots of choices listed there, but keep in mind that 1500 cubic feet is not as much as you may think. Using your water example you could turn a 10'x10' section of floor into a 15' deep pool. To get your listed 30' deep pool you could do a 5'x 10' section of hallway wall to wall. And that is assuming there is not another level of dungeon under you that is only five feet down.
If you wanted to make the pool a little under 1' deep you could almost cover a 40'x 40' section.

1 foot of lava or acid is still a hell of a lot of pain underfoot

The floor beneath the BBEG's feet only has to be antimatter for a moment. The DMs will at this stage say, "Your wizard doesn't know what antimatter is," so then you point at your vast ranks of knowledge (quantum physics) on your sheet that he let you have, at the time saying "Sure, you can have it but it won't be useful in a fantasy campaign".

if ya wanna get real nasty turn the air inside a creatures lung into water...acid...lava take your pick
ssuffocation and internal pain what more could you want ;)
First objection: going to cry attended object so the creature gets a save.
Second objection: no line of effect.
Third objection: no line of sight.
