New Weapon Special Property: Striking

Homebrew and House Rules

Striking
When wielded by a character proficient with it's use, a weapon with the striking property deals damage as if it were one size category larger (ex; Long sword becomes 2d6). This does not change how much effort it takes to wield this weapon.
Strong Transmutation; CL 10; Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Enlarge Person; Price +2 bonus

What do you think?

i made an enhancement like this called density, it increased the damage of the weapon by one size and increased the weight by double but it didn't actually make it harder to wield.

Dark Archive

FR had a feat that let you weild extra heavy weapons that did the same thing too.

Increasing it +1 size only increases the random damage by 2 at most at smaller dice sizes (such as 1d6 Shortswordn to 1d8 short sword). So I wouldn't make it a +2 ability for smaller weapons as you would only be getting +2 more at most and then it is random unlike a standard +2 enhancement which is +2 all the time. Your example of a longsword would be a different matter, since you could do up to +4 more but again it is random.
So split it into lesser Striking (medium and smaller melee weapons) as a +1 abiilty, and Striking as a +2 (larger or greater melee).

Actually, you would probably be better off making it an add on magical ability that is not tied to the usual +1, +2 etc. ability.
Maybe make it a form of alchemical metal that costs +1500 for medium or less, and 2250 for large or greater weapons.

That's a good point and a good idea...

Making it a property of some exotic metal also means the group can occaisionally run into a craftsman who can repair or build weapons from it without having to be an arcane caster.

Races of the Dragon had a spell called Mighty Wallop, the weapon did damage as if it was +1 size category.

There was a higher level version called Mighty Wallop (Greater) that was +1 size category / 4 levels (max +5).

There were also mercurial weapons, which had a bit of mercury in them causing them to hit as one size larger. I believe it was limited to the bigger weapons such as greatsword, and required an exotic proficiency to wield.
