So, reading up on the Summoner, and I have been taking a closer look at the Eidolon. It doesn't go into great detail about the Eidolon, just that it is a powerful outsider. So, if the Summoner bound to the Eidolon wanted it to be something ride-able, would another character, like a Paladin or a Cavalier, be able to ride it into combat using things like Mounted Combat?
Somehow, I don't think Handle Animal quite covers the checks to teach the Eidolon...well, anything.

In this thread Events Manager Joshua Frost said "Currently there are no rules for riding an eidolon. In the final APG, there will be an evolution that allows your eidolon to be ridden as a mount."
Later on (and I just found this!) he gave a preview (which may or may not change when the APG is released)
Ride (Ex): (2-point evolution) While an eidolon can normally carry its summoner should it have a high enough Strength to do so, eidolons, because of their malleable nature, are not normally able to be ridden into combat. This evolution allows an eidolon to be ridden without penalty by its summoner and allows the eidolon to use the normal mounted combat rules. The eidolon is only considered to be a suitable mount for its summoner and may not be ridden into combat by another creature. This evolution is only available to eidolons with four legs that are one size category larger than their summoner.
YMMV but looks good to me. As an aside, I'm loving my Summoner, for almost entirely flavor reasons. The Eidolon is generally a lot more interesting that the Summoner, though. He's all up in the thick of things doing cool stuff, while I tend to stand back and goof off.

Seriously LAME!
Now I have to rebuild my serpent eidolon completely just to accommodate some crap ruling that doesn't even make sense?
What were they thinking? That eidolon mounts were broken?
By the time the APG is released the summoner and his eidolon will be in ruins.

I'm leaning towards a house rule that would allow an eidolon to be ridden if it's design is similar to a creature that can normally be used as a mount: for example, an eidolon that more or less resembles an axe beak would be ok, but one that is more upright like a person wouldn't. Quadriped is almost always going to be ok, while serpentine would again depend on the general form.

I know I shouldn't bump the thread necro, but this comment is freaking hilarious in hindsight.
