If you've got an editing password, I believe you can nominate articles yourself. Whether they choose them is another matter.
I got a message via Facebook, from the nominator, advising me to go check it out. I think he said the fact that it was the 30th anniversary of the first public print-run swung it.
It was my idea to put it on the front page. ;) No, really, it was!
