Customer just came in and asked what the return policy is on Textbooks.

me-*hands her a slip with the return policy* "You have 6 days from the start of class to return, unless you drop."

her-"What if the class starts next week?"

me-*facepalm*

I understand your frustrations, but I've been in that situation before from her end. Chances are you are the unwitting middleman in your schools policy to make money by selling more books.

We did have a nice weekend though. We went to New York and visited some friends. It was all part of an insidious ploy to get my partner off his LA kick, since there are few jobs in his field there and I don't like the universities. It sort of worked in that he (both of us really) liked it more than we thought we would. He's still hung up on the weather though. I mean, we've reached a point where that's the main thing Cali has going for it, and it's really not enough for me.

Work still blows, but that's nothing new.

Hey, where in NY were you? I might have passed you if you were in West Village on Friday or Saturday.

I was in the village Saturday afternoon.

On Friday we spent much of the day in China Town and Little Italy before heading to 5th Ave in the evening and turning in early because we were exhausted. On Saturday we met a friend of my partner's in the West Village and did a huge walking tour that included Union Square and Gramercy Park. We had dinner on Park Ave and then met an old friend of mine in Hell's Kitchen but turned in a little early again. We liked the areas we saw and liked the people too (New Yorkers get a bad rap as unfriendly, when they're way friendlier than miserable rust-belters.)

Well this school is messed up, we can't have a normal return policy like other B&N college bookstores cause of how the school works. But I was more annoyed with the fact of I had already answered her question with my previous statement.

In my building maitenance is the psychic department. Everywhere I go, I hear "Are you here to fix 'blank'?". I ask, 'When did you report a problem?' The Answer - 'We didn't report it - I just thought you were here to fix it.'

I'm willing to bet her class starts less than 6 days from now. I'm thinking she's just been suckered.

Wow.
Sorry, that has been stuck in my head since the Markov chain mail thing. If you haven't read Cyberiad, it is well worth a look. Lem is amazing, and so is his translator, who managed to take a ton of puns from Polish to English in a stunning fashion.

I read Solaris for a Literature of Science Fiction class in college. It was an interesting, but weird, book.

By the way, Treppa, I liked your Markov chain mail pun. :)

EDIT: Naked distrust of school bookstore return policies/college textbook scams for TOP!!!

Also, 11, know that I have nothing against you or your profession. I've had to work on a college campus before and I know how hard it can be. I'm just wise to a lot of the scams that certain professors pull with respect to the school bookstore, who is often just as much of a victim as the students are.
