Y'know, it's funny. Normally I'll only catch the 'big' episodes of Smallville (Justice League, the Premieres/Finales, etc.)

But this being the last season, I figured I'd try to watch a couple more than average. And I'm getting the feeling that every episode this season is going to be 'big'.

In the premiere, they show the tights, he almost flies, Chloe puts on Fate's helmet, and they start the whole Clone of Lex thing.

The last episode was even bigger, with Hawkman returning, Deadshot going after Clark, a new reporter named Cat Grant (with implications she's related to Ted Grant/Wildcat), the introduction of Rick Flagg & Plastique and a mention of Suicide Squad. Oh, and them actually saying the word "Superman".

I may be disappointed later, but I'm giving it a regular shot (especially since SyFy's got wrestling on Friday nights now).

Meh. Sometimes it's all too much.

My partner has been so depressed and agitated about not finding a job since graduating. He's been reaching out to friends just to occupy himself, but they're all to flakey to be any help. He sits at home a lot, which is depressing.

I work a job everyone knows I can't stand and come home tired but feel like I have to entertain somehow. With no time for myself, my writing projects for grad schools are at a standstill. And somehow for all that effort, I never have enough money, and still live paycheck to paycheck.

I can see the way out, sort of, but it all depends on us staying miraculously motivated, which is in shorter and shorter supply lately. Yesterday was bad. It dawned on me in choir practice yesterday that I was only there because they are paying me; I don't enjoy it anymore because my mind is always elsewhere. But I have to find a way to continue to stay strong enough for two.

Anyway, I just needed to vent.

Is there anyplace nearby that he could volunteer? Volunteer agencies often need help, it would get him out of the house, improve his feelings of self-worth, and might even get him networked with people who can aid his job search. It also looks better on a resume than "between college and now I've been sitting around." As a hirer, I respected volunteers as people who were motivated enough to do something with themselves and give back to the community, even without pay.

On the downside, it can sometimes be difficult to find a volunteer agency that simply needs willing hands or that one fits in with well. But it's worth a shot or two. If not, can he knit or crochet? I can send some yarn and he can make us some hats and scarves for the shop!

In the meantime, good luck. It is hard to work at a job you dislike, but knowing that you're the breadwinner is good motivation, huh? Nothing like feeling trapped. Keep your chin up. Things are starting to improve, though slowly. It really *could* be worse.

Good words. Also, I've found temp agencies to be a good place to get work in between jobs. And they're always looking for intelligent people.

Hi, all.

I'll have to catch up on the nearly 400 posts(!) tonight.

I had my dental appointment up in Greensboro yesterday, so that meant a mid-week round trip drive. Met with ex-coworkers for lunch, which was nice, except lunch didn't agree with me (and it won the argument).

My interview got cancelled, since the company supposedly got an internal candidate. I'm not desperate to find a new job, so meh. In April or May, I might be panicking. :)

I hope you all are doing well. I guess I'll find out when I get caught up.

They have mentioned Superman twice before. Once in the first season, where Clark had been reading Nietzsche. Later on it is whispered by the Legion, who come back from the future.

They have subtly referenced both the superfriends, which was quite funny, and out and out talked about The JSA.

I find that the people who complain about the lack of politeness the most are often as guilty as the people they complain about. People should take a step back once-in-a-while and make sure that they've not become the thing they hate. No one wins if you defeat your opponent by calling them impolite. Argument ad hominem thinly veiled in your own feelings of being offended is no way to argue your point or to make friends.

It is, however, a proven method for getting a radio and TV "editorial" show deal.

What the f**&? SciFi Fridays used to be their biggest draw! Back when I was still watching TV regularly, they used to have Firefly reruns, then Stargate Atlantis, and finally Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica, all on Friday nights.

Politeness has come up quite a bit in the rules section of the board here lately, and I thought that I would just write down my thoughts for it here while it was fresh and present in my mind. FaWTL seemed like the best place to jot that note down and not have to discuss another fellow's personal issues that are really none of my business.

Really, how difficult would it be to ask Christian to put the suit on just for the series finale and punch Desaad or something? Is it too much to ask?

The original concept for the show that would become Smallville was in fact Batman begins. They were about to introduce a young up and coming rich boy from Gotham when the Batman Begins movie was finally up and running. So they changed the character to a rich boy with a bow and arrows. Right now I think the legalese is such that at this point even a cameo is out of the question. That being said I am still waiting for a Brave and the Bold movie. Where Supes is this goody two shoes who is an uber power house compared to Bats. It would make a great character movie having both of them find respect for the other. Not that I think Hollyweird could get its head out its butt long enough to think beyond the few million they are making this way.

As much as I WANT to read those threads, I can't do so without my blood pressure spiking. It just is not worth it. Plus when a place that should be civil is not while I am participating and then becomes so after I leave. Well it makes me wonder how much of it is in fact my approach.

Then again it just went back into the gutter without me so all is right in the world. ;)

Yeah, I know the politics as well. Enough that every time Olly's on the screen in Smallville I shudder and swallow my anger (it's not his fault, after all, he's always been a liberal version of Batman ;) ).

It's the same legal mumbo-jumbo BS they toss out when they talk about a JLA movie and refuse (!) to cast Bale as Batman in it. <shakes head>

Back in the day, they were talking a Batman Beyond movie. Adam West was one of the actors that they were talking about using as the old Batman. I preferred and wanted to see the other choice as an old Batman, Clint Eastwood.
