of all the arcan casters in pathfinder what ability scores do they use to cast with?

Sor = Cha
Bard = Cha

Adv. Player Classes
Witch = Int
Sum = Cha
Alche = Int

cause they never did it in 3.5? or (to my knowledge) in any other edition?

My suspicion is that this is because Arcane casting has always been seen as either "Ha, ha! I am smart enough to know how to warp reality to fit my whims!" (Int) or "I don't like you. Go away or Mr. Muffins will eat you." Summons a Celestial Dire Lion who then proceeds to eat the enemy

As you can see, neither of these styles really oozes wisdom and the philosophical understanding of the universe that comes with wisdom and the divine spellcasters (well, the non-spontaneous ones at least)


Zen Archery as I recall allowed ranged attacks to use wisdom instead of dexterity, makes for scary "Zen Ray Wizards".

I think it is just tradition really, clerics always had more freedom to take from the arcane classes than vice versa, but I do not see any good reason to take arcane casters that way either.

but...they're not gonna get as many spells - or their AC crap.

i don't get it.

btw, Clerics use Wis cuz it relates to faith.
