In HTBM part 4, in the shrine are the ape demons considered native or summoned creatures for the purposes of the protection from evil spell? It hints at this shrine being part of Abyss meaning to me the demons here are not summoned but I want to know for sure.

The bar-lgura are extraplanar, but not summoned. They entered through a gate or portal a long time ago.
The only summoned creatures are the ones that are actually summoned by Summon Monster spell, since it has (Summoning) descriptor. Even Planar Ally/Binding creatures aren't affected by Protection From Evil because that's a (Calling) spell.
