hey guys I was just wonderin what were your guys thoughts on hellknights as a player character?
We're about to start the Kingmaker AP and I have been intrigued with the order and the class since i seen them, however the actuall CoT AP doesnt seem like a good fit for a PC to play a Hellknight.
I was considering making a fighter 5 then going into the Hellknight prestige class presented in "what Lies in Dust" in the CoT issue.
id like some opinions on overall on the concept and also ideas for the build.
stats will be 8,10,12,14,16,18 to arrange as I like
was leaning towards either Human or Tiefling (using Tiefling variant tables presented in "Bastards of erebus" AP issue)
goin with spiked armor/shield and either whip or flail depending on which order of the hellknights i went with (either the chain or scourge)
I know nothing about CoT and how Hellknights would fit in, but i've ran part of the Hellknight faction as DM during Rise of the Runelords. After running them, both myself and one of my players both want to make Hellknight characters in future games.
Someone wrote up a really good writeup on the hellknight initiation ritual. I can't seem to find it now, but if you search around you may find it. It was paired with an extra writeup on Chopper's Isle for Rise of the Runelords to download, it might be in the RotRL subforum.
For character concepts, I look forward to trying out a build involving the spiked chain. There are a handfull of feats for spiked chains in the Cheliax companion guide too. Cornugun Shield and Cornugun Trip allow a spiked chain wielding hellknight extra armor and to throw his spiked chain as a bola. My favorite is Hamatula Strike... since spiked chain is piercing damage, you can use Hamatula Strike to impale your opponent with it and get a free grapple attempt. All awesome feats that I think mesh well with the image of a teeth kicking, no-nonsense hellknight taking down his bounty.
