25 point buy CR 12 Gestalt Power build. Please help!

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So, I'm trying to figure out the best build I can get just using pathfinder stuff.

Also my GM is allowing only 2 CR to be bought off.

So far I've put together a Demon-Spawn Tiefling who is (silly I know but DM called it was acceptable.) Half-Fiend, Half-Dragon (Brass), Giant Young. (So the numbers work out that Half-Fiend is +2, Half-Dragon is +2, Giant +1, Young -1. (2+2+1-1-2=2) 2+levels =CR right?

10 levels in Pally/Oracle

Stats are as follows
STR:34
DEX:14
CON:26
INT:18
WIS:10
CHA: 34
(Back ground feat was Fiendish Heritage and the DM altered that a little. Instead of roll 3 times get the best, he said you can cherry pick one, or roll for 2. I got +2 CHA, and Pos/Neg Healing. That will account for the extra CHA)

I'm trying to compete with the super powergamer in my group who always finds a way to make me angry. He won't explain to me how he becomes so powerful so I'm somewhat in the dark. If I could see how someone else would build powerful stuff I might get a better idea of how to do so myself. I can make characters that are usually a little more powerful than the average, but not usually by a whole lot. I want to compete,so either maxing this char idea out or starting from scratch and making a super hardcore dude would be acceptable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Beware of players that wont tell you how they became so powerful. I am not saying he is a cheat but it happens. You and your friends are supposed to support eachother in and out of the game.

Powergaming is only true power-gaming if you use third-party sourcebooks. :D (Well, gestalt is from Unearthed Arcana so I let that count.)

Could you elaborate on that? Do you pay something to be considered 2 CR's lower, or does every character count two CR's lower by default?

You seriously want an opinion on that? Your DM is high, you're high, come down. :D ;-) It reminds me of an old webcomic character with three parents. Human half-ogre/half-drow. I consider myself a powergamer, but one with style. While it's nice that you have no true dump stat your family history will drive sages with wisdom and intelligence 30 mad. I would at least leave out the giant and young template. There's nothing in that family tree that increases your size and young usually means that you're still a child. If you really want to fish for ability score modifiers like that take the Advanced template and really play a child. And don't forget. Every +1 CR costs you a level.

What mystery and what curse? Otherwise a decent choice, both need high charisma and the oracle can wear armor without hindering its casting.

Okay, how does he make you angry? Killstealing? Doing everything better than the rest of the party? And what does he play that makes him so powerful? You should at least have a rough idea of race, class, weaponry and tactics.

I had once a pretty system-breaking concept for a gestalt, but that would need special permission from the GM (maybe he would grant it if he allows that template madness) and two classes that are converted from D&D 3.X.....

Hi, Teremir! How is the campaign going in my absence, and what happened to your winged alchemist?

For every 3 points of CR coming from sources that aren't class levels, 1 of those points is being removed, to a max of 2 points. It's also worth noting that CR points that don't come from class levels take up both sides of the gestalt track.

I'm reasonably sure I know which character he's talking about. It's a giant half-fiend (I think half-black-dragon) were-dire-crocodile troll Barbarian / (No idea what the other classes are) wearing Soulfire armor that has a Strength that's at least in the upper 40's, probably higher. The campaign in general is rather ridiculous on the power curve (my cleric included) and sometimes a bit loose on the rules, but we all tend to enjoy it.

Edited in as a note: His CMB is ludicrous (above 80), and, as such, he grapples things very well. My character specifically started prepared Freedom of Movement as a countermeasure in case things went south and our two characters ended up opposed.

Wow. I thought I knew what power gaming was...guess not :) Sorry, can't help with your character though. The dials are already up to 11 so I'm not sure how to turn them higher.

You're supposed to be a Sorcerer/Oracle switching to Bard / Mystic Theurge at 5th level.

Caster level 12 as Sorcerer, 12 as Oracle, 8 as bard, can cast and inspire in the same round. Lose Giant and Tiefling from your templating; all that matters really is that Cha, and you want maximum caster level. So a Young Half-Fiend Half-Dragon should be plenty. As to your friend, demand to see the stats for CMB 80, that's a +68 bonus, or over 150 strength, that is coming from somewhere.

+1, but with a few considerations:

-Fey Bloodline would grant you +2 to Compulsions DC wich sinergices nicely with bard spellcasting.

-An Skeletal Champion Drow Noble would be a CR 2, reatain all Drow Noble special abilities (SR, SPs, etc), ability to put a 7 in constitution, undead immunities, to extra HD (to further raises your caster level through Magical Nack? trait) and even more charisma sinergy ().

-If you don´t feel going skeletal you could always use Vampire or Lich, note that liches aren't mandatory evil, and you could be human for the bonus feat.

-Battle Focci grants Surprise Charge wich is close enough to a short range inmediate action teleport, War Sight and Battle Clarity are also nice.

-The Haunted curse would technically apply to material components so avoid it.

-The Deaf curse benefit(automatic Silent spell) applies to all your spells not just Oracle.

-This build has exremely poor saves for a Gestalt so beware.

Humbly,
Yawar

CMB 80... quite frankly I simply don't believe you. Something has gone terribly wrong in that game.

Hey gad, it's actually going well, I'm trying to compete with our super powerful guy. You know of whom I speak. I'm not angry with his ability to be so powerful, I'm angry with the fact that I'm being one upped, you know my personality... LOL. The Alchemist is actually going quite well, but I may be looking for a bit of a change. The Alchemist may retire onto a plot of land that we liberated from bandits. It depends on my mood this coming couple of weeks. I mean, while I find it awesome that I can probably make a good 2k a week just using my alchemy making poisons... I'd like to be able to kill things easier. We'll see. Plus recently, The Alchemist ran into the Troll and we were on opposing sides for an adventure... he yelled and I had to roll a 20 to avoid some fear effect, luckily there was an NPC on my side who helped me with that.

Thalin- You do know that Tiefling is not adding to my CR right? And also, the DM doesn't want Mystic Theurge because it's basically combining two classes already... meaning... two classes+two classes= Silly stuff. And yes, I realize that our campaign is already silly stuff. It's all good though. =)

Navarion- I went with Tounges as my curse and Battle as my mystery.

Like Gad said (since he plays with our group he knows. Usually the GM. ANd quite a good one at that I will say.) we're fairly high on the power curve as is but Player B tends to make really awesome characters that can blow me away in almost every circumstance. Like I said earlier, I'm not angry with him making such powerful characters I just wish I could do so as well so when I wanted to make something hardcore power-wise and not role-playing wise I don't get one upped by him so easily, even if he is just doing his usual thing.

Note: Gad, we figued out that the GM missed a small detail about his were-croc, he's a dragon(due to half dragon), were-creatures have to be humanoid. I've also learned a few different things about how Regeneration has been changed and a few of his errors in making this character. All in the process of creating this pally/oracle, so it's not like I'm trying to spite him, I'm just learning the rules and what not. I hope HE sees it that way, and not like I'm trying to screw him over on purpose. Also, Gad, I need an idea for a "concept" you know... the whole campaign curse/blessing thing being based of the concept or word... *shrug* for this guy it totally eludes me what I should do.

Regarding the 80 CMB, I might have been recalling from a time when his plot blessing / curse had activated (each PC here has a curse that is slowly killing them, but gives them huge bonuses in some circumstances), nevertheless, I'm fairly sure he's been getting Grapple attempts of around that high.

----------------------

Teremir-

You're running a tiefling Paladin, so 'Redemption' is an applicable concept word. It also would let us test what would happen when someone's curse word was tied to something positive as opposed to the negative things like 'vengeance', 'pollution', 'condemnation', and the sort that have been generally chosen by PCs and NPCs.

Other concept words you could pull are 'justice', 'truth', 'divinity', 'unbreaking', and 'glory'. That's just the first few that pop to mind. If you have more of a direction you want to take this guy, I can come up with some others.

I've also been messing around with a Fae build that has some very high ability DCs as a backup character in case my judge got killed during his massive planar side-quest. My notes on it are at home, though, so I don't have them at hand. If you're interested, I can probably beam you over my rough outline of the build and its key features later today since my side of the campaign is going slowly and I don't see the judge dying soon.

Edit: Oh, and be careful about when you decide to make new characters. This guy should be fine, but I warn you that I'm fairly sure each generation's curse starts kicking in more brutally than the last generation's and at a faster pace. Just a note there.

Currently my winged alchemist's concept word is Rebirth. And I've figured out what my blessing is, though it has yet to come to play. Rebirth in this campaign leads to my blessing and my curse, my blessing is that sometimes I just WON'T die. Kinda an auto-res thing randomly, but my curse is my body is turning into metal... and not the good kind of metal like warforged kinda thing but, I'm a statue forever kind of thing.

I do very much like Glory or Redemption. Those are actually quite awesome, and I think I'm probably leaning more towards Redemption since I'm fairly fiendish and what not but trying to find my way in the good side of things.

I won't take your build idea since after looking through some stuff it seems that my current build idea is working out pretty well for the fact that this guy is more hardcore than my alchemist and he's also 1 level higher at the same CR. lol I'll let you keep your secrets to yourself so that way it comes as a total shock when I'm in awe of how well it works out for you. I was also at one point toying with a sorc/oracle and basically dumping EVERYTHING except my CHA... we'll see how well that works out if I get around to statting it up as another possibility.

Curse note: I will be careful about that, as of yet Joe made a new char and he has yet to even come to a time when his curse has activated. Although I do not know what his word was.
