No ! No! No! No fighting, bickering, name-calling, or snarkiness! Elves are so sensitive ya know.

Seriously, sounds like some fun PC interactions on the way.

Sweet description, Sil, of the ambush. Very creative!

Male Human Ranger 1

Agreed...you moved the usually stoic Garyn! Well written, mate.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Thanks, guys. Sorry I wasn't posting frequently enough to really help with the burial and Oleg.

Hey Deathlok, with the adventurer's armory out, I'm wondering if you'll permit my manufacture of the alchemical items there if and when I start crafting. The Archives of Nethys has a good database of items already released.

Oh, and I have an eye on the Portable Alchemy Lab. *cough cough*

Sure, I have no problem with that, even though I don't have the Adventurer's Armory. As long as you can find out what the Craft Alchemy DC checks are, it is fine. You will also need the portable lab in order to craft them. Oleg does not have it, but you can order it from Restov, when the chance presents itself.

Male Human Fighter 2 (Weapon Master)

I snagged the armory as well. I kind of dig the Aldori dueling sword's new incarnation. Would you mind if I swapped a few feats around for that instead of the bastard sword?

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Something about that Charter looks sneakingly familiar....

^_^

LOL..yeah, I "borrowed" it, hope you don't mind

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Nah that's cool, I haven't read all of your thread yet. Borrow anything else? I love comments and critiques on my stuff.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 4

Oooooh! The Bandit fight. That was fun....

I dunno if you're house ruling, but Stealth actually works with concealment as well as cover, and a nice night in the woods gives you 20% concealment. Which makes sense for rogue-like people sneaking around in the dark... huh...except a rogue can't sneak attack in the dark unless they have dark vision.... O . o pardon my rules monkey, he got loose again.

Thanks for the input, appreciate any help.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Aravan, I'm pretty sure dwarf base speed is 20'. It's one reason I've sadly not played a dwarf in years. Is there a feat or something you've taken to get to 30, or do I just have it wrong? (Just asking 'cause I'd like to roll a dwarf again someday, but I really like a 30 base speed.)

He's a cleric with the travel domain, granted power: +10 base speed.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Ohh. I like clerics. I like dwarves. And that fixes my speed issue more than nicely. That's sweet.

Male Dwarf Exp: 500 Cleric 1

Actually a dwarf with the travel domain can be quite amazing. The first level domain spell is longstrider so suddenly you have a speed 40' dwarf. Since a dwarf never has their speed modified by armor or encumbrance you could for example take the heavy armor feat, and wear full plate mail, while running around at 40' for 1 hr/level(it is possible I have considered this).

There is a feat to increase your speed by 5', but it only applies if you have light or no armor. I suppose it could be decent for a dwarf rogue, but probably not worth spending a feat on.

From a purely min/max perspective it is almost worth it to take one level of clerc for most dwarf PC's just for the free movement. I would suggest Abadar for the Travel/Protection domains. If only because protection gives you +1 to all saves and another +1 for every 5 levels, and I am not sure if it is intended but it doesn't specify cleric levels like other powers so as written you get +1 to all saving throws at 5/10/15/20 even if you only took 1 level of cleric. Possibly there is some errata but I am having trouble tracking down the errata.

Oh, and see now look what you have done, released my inner powergamer :P

Hrmmmm now that I think about it luck wouldn't be a bad domain either I can see some absolutely absurd combos with their 1st lvl power and a class that has a ton of attacks as a full round action.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Brought the discussion here to avoid cluttering up the game thread.

Ground rules first: Death-lok, how much discussion will you allow during combat? Most DMs don't like a lot, but some will let almost anything go.

Yep, longbows do 1d8 and crit modifier is x3, nasty!

Silstaren wrote:
Need a ruling: When staggered, Can I still take a 5 foot step and attack?

Yes, you can, as long as you know that any strenuous action, like combat will leave you at -1 hps and dying

Oops. Forgot its 3X. It is nasty.

Unfortunately, I know. Gambled and lost.

As long as you don't get Martin Luther King "I have a dream" long-type speech on me, I'm cool with it. Heck, my bad guys have to monologue as well! :-)

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

I meant tactics and OOC stuff.

Oh! Like "move to square x and do this"? I don't have a problem with it in game as long as you have seen the effect or are aware of it. For example, you've seen Greehr throw bombs, so telling him to launch bombs at x is fine with me. Telling a wizard to cast dispel magic when you don't know he has it memorized or seen it in game, no. Hope that helps.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Yeah, stuff like that.

Aravan! Nice work with the channeling. Really saved our bacon.
The bombs, especially the first one, were also key. And Garyn, You're going to give Sil an inferiority complex with the archery.

I thought we were going to do a hit and run, but when Cale went down, that plan seemed finished. I felt like Sil had to get between Cale and Strovan and Kressle. It just seemed like a bowshot wouldn't have been deterrent enough. Of course that left Sil at 0 hp, so maybe it wasn't the best move.

Rather than withdraw, I gambled on the sword strike. At 0 hp and moving only 30', I thought the bandits would easily catch Sil. But if I managed to hit Kressle hard, maybe she wouldn't be dealing anymore damage with those axes, maybe the other bandits would lose hope and run.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Now that's a nice haul of loot for first level. Does anyone else want to be book-keeper? I will if not.

Just wanted to say that I started reading stuff you guys were doing (1st page of the other thread only) and liked reading it a lot. Seems like a fun group and I'm going to keep up with reading your adventures. Characters have made me smile so far.

Happy gaming.

Sorry about my absence the last few days. Just got a promotion at work and it involves, well a lot more work. My entire schedule went crazy for a bit but hopefully I will be able to restore some order.

No response to game thread in days now. Is this a "I'm busy and it's summer" thing or a "I'm not that interested in this game anymore" thing? Please let me know. Thanks.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Been a little busy. Definitely still into the game. I felt after kind of driving the Nigel issue that someone else should have a chance to drive.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Death-Lok, and party. I've been enjoying the game thus far. The characters are good and our DM keeps things moving pretty well.

We've got over 500 posts pretty quickly and that's a good sign of a healthy game. Things will slow down now and then. In my PbP games I usually give people at least a week before I get worried about an individual dropping out. I've seen too many cases where people have lost internet access and been unable to post for a few days or RL gets hectic. I've even seen periods where my entire party hasn't posted for 2 or 3 days. And I have two good groups where most players post nearly daily and my usual complaint is I can't feed them information as fast as I'd like. (Ideally, I'd like to reply at least every two or three posts as DM.) So please don't get discouraged yet.

The sandbox nature of Kingmaker means we will all have to push the party action a little more as players. Our PCs need to be self-motivated to go exploring. Silstaren's been talking about moving on, but that's me trying to portray post-revenge let-down. He'll be developing an interest in the area and a desire to discover it's secrets. Besides sticking around a "short time" for an elf could be 3 or 4 years.

Thanks for the comments/suggestions. I think they're gone for good, so I've posted a recruitment thread for replacement players. We'll see how it goes.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

I can vouch for French Wolf. Great player. Frequent poster except when his wife is birthing. Very good about communicating absences.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

No shortage of quality applicants. I have played with Dabbler too. Excellent, frequent poster who apparently never sleeps.

Thanks for the references Thom, I will keep it in mind. I received a lot of good submissions.

The Exchange

Thank you for the opportunity, Death-Lok.

Let me know if you want me to change anything before we join in.

Cheers

P.S. thank you Tt for the glowing comments, I must remember to look after Shimei better.

Welcome to the 3 new characters and let's have fun. I'm hoping FWolf is willing to change the concept to fit a cleric, since that is what the group most needs and he indicated in his post he would be willing to play a cleric. Let's have the characters statted up for 1st level so I can review them.

Proposed background for 3 new players only!:
Here is what I am thinking. You three along with 2 other party members were one of the other charter groups sent by the Swordlords in Restov to colonize the Stolen Lands. You passed by Oleg's Trading Post and went straight through to the hex SE of the post, where you encountered an ambush in the form of spiders ridden by spider-like humanoids. During the ambush, 2 eager members of the group, who did not wait for Braddock to scout the area for traps, were incapacitated by sophisticated tripwires strewn about and fell. Seeing the overwhelming odds, you three fled for your lives and managed to escape. Battered and bruised, you head toward Oleg's Trading post to recuperate.

Feel free to make any comments or suggestions to my proposed intro.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Welcome aboard, Goblin Snake, Tanner, and French Wolf! Rogue(?), paladin, and cleric(?) should add a bit of variety. If anyone wants help de-optimizing your character, I'm your man.

FW:

Spoiler:
A lawful good druid is really a cleric anyway. ;-p

Looking forward to having you on my side for once.

The Exchange

And hi to my fellow newbies, Tanner and goblin snake. I can definitely play a cleric. Give me a bit of time to mull over this because in my tabletop Kingmaker game I play a holy warrior variant cleric and he is very similar to Den.

I'll post up a concept either later tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

Cheers

P.S. Death-Lok we only play once every six weeks or so and Saturday was the first session so don't worry about me knowing what is going in from that game. Its more likely to be the other way around.

No worries, FWolf, I tend to change a lot of stuff in published adventures.

Human Psychomancer

Hello, everyone! I'm excited to be here.

1. DM, that intro looks fine to me. Great thinking!

2. Can you fill me in on what you guys have accomplished thus far?

3. I would like to volunteer myself as mapmaker for the party, if no one is really attached to the job.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Hi, Tanner, we've duked it out with some bandits, but I should probably let Death-Lok tell you what he wants you to know. It's winter in Brevoy. Make sure your paladin dresses warmly.

Human Psychomancer

Thanks, he'll put on some furred booties.

Here is a map I prepared for a previous Kingmaker game that sadly fell through, because love a guys with skills. PIC
The yellow line is the boundary of the exploration charter.

Hey Tanner, good to have you. The party has so far killed some bandits at Oleg's Trading Post (big landmark in the game) and then tracked down those bandits to a bigger bandit camp, where they took down a bandit lieutenant and her cronies.

Definitely, unless anyone has an objection, to you being the mapmaker.

A couple of things about Virgil:

1. Alignment is LG not LN
2. You have 3 skill points now with 10 int but you could have 4 if paladin is favored class and you take +1 skill point at 1st level.
3. Could you put in a line there on the character sheet of bonuses to hit and damage when you use power attack? +4 hit, 2d6+6 damage, right?
4. Also edit equipment to reflect maul and not halberd.

I think everything else looks good.

Male Half Orc Rogue - 1

Hey all, Braddock here, I've put my writeup here.

Death-Lok, I've included an equipment spoiler going off the average gold for a band.., er, rogue plus the 100GP bonus from the 'brigand' trait. Let me know what you think.

With respect to the intro, I think that's fine.

also:

Spoiler:
Feel free to call him a bastard at any given time, that's the point of the character!

Braddock, the equipment looks good. Could you add some stuff to the character sheet, like Hit Points, Saves, AC, CMB/CMD, Initiative, Class abilities, and a combat section with your pluses to hit and damage for each of your weapons? Thanks.

Fixed. It's always a pain to copy-paste from a previous character and try to fix everything. :)

Damage with maul was 2d6+4, with Power Attack it is +2 damage, except with two-handed weapons, which give an additional +50% damage on Power Attack. Total is 2d6+7.

Is this more to what you were wanting?

Human Psychomancer

Do we have starting xp?

Here is my dwarven cleric. I fancied a change so he will be a miner and craftsman.

I can't find any reference on wealth so I am using average gold for a new cleric, 140gp. Let me know if that is right.

The profile is mostly a work in progress and probably will be done after USA and England play football tonight. I'll let you know Death-Lok when I'm finished.

Cheers

Braddock the Bastard wrote:

Yes, thank you, still missing intiative (+3, right?). And I think your AC is 15 not 14 (Leather is +2 and +3 Dex).

Tanner Nielsen wrote:

Yes, the three of you start with 500 xp. Good catch on the power attack, thanks.

Actually, you all receive max gold for your class.
