Two questions (both regarding the druid):

1) What's the druid's animal companion?

2) Are you allowing traits?

Answer: No and no.

The player actively dislikes animal companions/familiars. I expect him to never cast Summon Nature's Ally at all - I'm thinking I'll let him spontaneously cast domain spells (Weather) as well, so that he actually gets some use out of his spontaneous casting.

Too bad. Combat effectiveness may not be the only consideration, but it's a very important one for most adventure paths.

A party of three doesn't have a lot of margin for error. With (potentially, at least) the "strongest" character not playing toward the strengths of their class, as well as (I'm inferring from your comments here and in the All Arcane Kingmaker thread) a lack of teamwork (from a character creation standpoint) and (possibly) tactics, the group is in for a rough ride.

I'd point them toward Bokken's quest ASAP and possibly swap in a wand of cure light wounds (20 charges) in place of the masterwork hand axe at location E to help with the healing. To help the combat effectiveness, you could either allow the party to hire one of Kesten Garess's warriors (or have an "unattached" warrior show up at Oleg's) or add a DMNPC barbarian, fighter, or ranger. The only problem with a DMNPC main combatant is the possibility of overshadowing the PCs.

Well, the party composition for my Kingmaker campaign has finally emerged. So far, play hasn't begun so I don't have a feel for the characters' personalities yet (some of them don't even have names chosen), but here's the roster:

* Unnamed Elf enchanter
* Unnamed Tengu inquisitor of Gorum (persecutor of pacifists & cowards)
* Ferros Aldrantes, human cleric of Gorum (seeks glorious battle in lawless lands)
* Hamish the Quiet, half-orc ranger (thus named due to a neck injury rendering him unable to speak above a whisper. Using the spell-less ranger variant from KQ)

It's looking like our nation will be decidedly Gorum-centric, so I predict much bloodshed in the coming adventures.

Liberty's Edge

Ooh Ooh I love these things! Its like talking about your kids except people actually want to hear what you have to say.

My group of four consists of an elf sorcerer (elemental), an elf cleric (sarenrae), a human rogue (that will be multiclassing to ranger), and a human fighter.

I used the Crypt of the Everflame adventure to conveniently explain why they are 1) a group, and 2) given the charter. We already finished the everflame adventure and start kingmaker Friday.

I'd show you their pictures, but I left those in my other wallet...

+1. I'm a fan of the Noble class from Conan (also like the Temptress) and GOO's A Game of Thrones. I kind of dig FantasyCraft's new courtier class as well.

A soundly-built PFRPG Noble class would be great.

I mean, we have Aristocrat for NPCs, surely the PCs need some luvin'. :)

Khoran Lebeda: Noble-born male 1/2 elf Noble** up-and-coming courtier.
Morielle Aldori: Male Fighter, a remittance-man of House Medvyed who renounced the family name after joining an Aldori dueling school in Restov.
Sonja Medvyed: Noble-born Female human Priestess*** of Erastil.
Jan One-eye: Basterd male Cavalier**** & member of the Order of the Lion.
How is the noble class working out for you guys?
Remains to be seen - I've been wanting someone to try it for years, but this is the first time someone actually has. For the most part the Noble class should work in Pathfinder well enough, but it has two dead levels (one of which can be jiggered by bumping the free Leadership feat from 6th to 7th, just as Pathfinder does). The bigger problem I foresee is the Noble House feat and how it may (or may not) relate to Brevoy politics and kingdom building in the Stolen Lands.

Be sure to fill the dead levels with bonus feats. No dead levels in PFRPG.

I agree with everything but the overshadowing part. We've never had a DMPC overshadow PCs in our group as we dont think that way (our group is down to 3 as well, usually with a DMPC and an NPC).

As my group's DM, I usually start them with a half-charged Wand of CLW and half-charged Wand of Magic Missiles (if there is a sorcerer/wizard PC). About 375gp in extra loot total per pc. Martial types usually spend this on a mw weapon and a Pot of CLW, etc.

As it stands, Ive been thinking about a 3 man party as well (PCs and one DMPC Elf Ranger/Archer type). We have a Gnome Bard and (human?) Sorcerer atm. I have to decide by Friday night, our first Kingmaker session, if im going to add an NPC Fighter/meat shield to the group.

I want to pass on the 4th man until we hit the

Spoiler:
Boggard Lair and possibly recruit Garuum instead as a change of pace
, but Im worried about survivability until then. Especially since they most likely will
Spoiler:
track the initial bandits from Oleg's to their camp at Thorn River
.

Ok, the group is done, and how im linking their backstories into Stolen Land (in spoiler tags)...

PC1 - Feifei Redstrand female Gnome Bard 1

Spoiler:
A massacre survivor of the village Tartuk destroyed in the Gronzi Forest after his reincarnation. Old rumors of purple kobold sightings have led her to the outskirts of Restov near the Greenbelt, the trail has gone cold though....

Special Item - Wand of CLW (25 chgs) found amidst the rubble of her village.

PC2 - Velba female Half-Elf Sorceress 1 (Elemental/Air Bloodline)

Spoiler:
An childhood friend of Davik Nettle. She has been in Magnimar or some other place with arcane studies for the past few years all the while keeping in contact with her foster brother, Davik. Its been a year now since his letters mysteriously stopped arriving. She came back to Restov looking for him, friends and neighbors told her that he was headed into the Greenbelt to start some foolhardy business of some kind

Special Item - Wand of Mag Mis. Given to her by her mentor upon completion of her training.

PC3 (DMPC) - Prestil Elf Ranger 1
Not sure where im going with this one's backstory yet.

PC4 (NPC) - Kendrick Mordaine Human Fighter 1
Standard NPC meat shield. Although he has +7 attack with a Longsword at level 1 (using +1 BAB, +3 str mod, Weap Focus, Sword Scion trait, and a MW weapon).

Spoiler:
Most likely he will be a trainee for apprenticeship with the Swordlords. Im hoping to replace him with Garuum, so he's disposable. I might have him picked up at K. as a prisoner.

I typically start groups with around 375g credit each for special gear, whatever is left over is lost. It equates to.... half-charged wands for casters, a masterwork weap and a single Potion of CLW for martial types, etc.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

Ok, finally got my first team up and running, the adventures of which can be found here.

They signed their charter as "The Green Hand Band" and so far consist of the following:

  • Khorani Lebeda (1/2 Elf Noble*) Noble-born of House Lebeda; primary.
  • Nyel Furlein (Human Ranger - Animal favored enemy) primary.
  • Anthea Perren (Human Paladin of Erestil) Rostlander; primary.
  • Miriam "Ma" Jessup (Human Alchemist**) Pioneer; primary.
  • Hebediah "Pa"Jessup (Human Ranger - Human favored enemy) Pioneer; secondary.
  • Hezekiah "Jr." Jessup (Young Human Commoner) Pioneer; tertiary.
  • Eragon (Human Artificer***) Primary.
  • Benetaro (1/2 Orc Barbarian) Secondary.
  • Estar (Human Slave****) Teritary.

*adapted from from The Noble's Handbook, Green Ronin Publishing.
**Pathfinder Advanced Player's Guide final beta.
***from Tome of Secrets, Adamant Entertainment.
****from Gladiator: Sands of Death, Mongoose Publishing.

In addition, Khorani has hired Anando & Jacobi (from the colorful and entertaining Hirelings pdf., while Nyel has a pair of hunting dogs.

I'll post info about the second team later, once they've actually gotten their chance to play (and thus made their final decisions on characters).

We've added a druid thank Erastil the rest off the party were going to starve in the Wilderness

and the Paladin's player has changed to having an Order of the Cockatrice Cavalier..which suits his play style a lot better

My party will be running their second session today:

Phillip Hemplut (Human Paladin of Abadar)
Zevran Othari (Human Ranger - Archery Style, Human Favoured Enemy)
Leyana Willowwood (Gnome Druid - Bear Animal Companion)
Yundil (Half-Elf Sorcerer - Fey Bloodline)

Character creation was done with the 15 point buy system with two traits (one must be campaign specific). With only four members, I thought there might be some issue with survivability - especially given the lack of cleric and rogue - but so far it's been a cake walk.

The first attack of the campaign was from the paladin who was on horseback charging with a lance. He rolled a 20 and confirmed the crit. Most of the other combats since then involve the sorcerer casting sleep at least twice. With the fey bloodline, the DC becomes 17 and is failed more often than not.

Grendel- I read the first entry- it seems nice.

Very Similar to my now 3 man group (but 20 point buy) as I decided to wait a little while longer before adding an NPC meat shield. We lack a Rogue and Cleric too atm.

I was worried about survivability as well, but my group utilized trees for cover and a few spells like Grease, Daze, and Sleep. Sleep took down a total of 7 enemies in two castings (Areas A and K). 1st level grunt types have a terrible will save modifier. :)

Well - things took a turn for the worse in the last session with the Paladin being ripped to shreds from a crit in the first combat of the night. He's now playing a Human Fighter focusing on the Aldori Dueling Sword with a hope of getting to Duelist. Of course, that means the party loses his access to lay on hands and the mercies...

Will be stating this game up tomorrow. I have 2 players and a DMPC to help them out. They had there choice of rolling (3d6 reroll 1's on the first roll, roll six times) or point buy (25pts). The players have decided that they want to be known as the Horse Lords of ...... (they haven't decided on what name they are going to give their kingdom yet) so they each have a horse at start.

Lanliss (Elven Cleric of Erastil 1) (Pioneer Trait) (Vigil)

Gesade (Elven Cavalier 1) (Noble: Orlavsky Trait) (Vigil's wife)

Phos (Elven Fighter 1) (Sword Scion Trait) (DMPC)

Really looking forward to getting going tomorrow!

Silver Crusade

Right now I am running a Halfling Summoner/Barbarian from Numeria. I changed the fluff of the Summoner What Eidilon represents is his rage manfesting to a being. At first level biped I built him with claws, improved natural attack and reach. Looks something like the hulk and the max had children.

Scarab Sages

Very excited..we started this past Tuesday...

Sindri Male Human Summoner (Bastard)
Besh Male Gnome Druid (Pioneer, small cat companion)
McTavish Male Dwarven Ranger (Noble Born, Garess)
Argyle Male Dwarven Fighter (Issian)

They easily handled the bandits, making friends with the Levertons and being very generous with sharing the spoils with them. With horses, they set out to explore the territory in the immediate vicinity of Oleg's and started tracking the bandits south along the edge of the Narlmarches. The first night's camp was uneventful. The next day, McTavish found tracks intersecting with those of the bandits that Besh identified as kobold tracks. Despite Argyle's protests, though, they followed the bandits.

During camp of the first night as the, they encountered an owlbear, and due to the heroics of Besh's Cat, a timely Daze Monster, and Sindri's eidolon, they were able to take it down!

The warmish weather of the last few days changed though, becoming overcast with the dawn. By morning it was below freezing and snow had started to fall.

We stopped there.

We'll be starting the AP this Saturday. Actually, we'll be starting in a month or two, as I'm going to run a couple adventures before getting into the AP proper.

I'm shoehorning it into my homebrew world (I have a life-threatening allergy to published worlds), and am crossing my fingers hoping that none of the future installments of the AP require a massive rework of the world map. I'm pretty sure I've got all my bases covered.

The characters are all 16 year-old half-siblings of a human father, a rakish noble who rolled through town 16 years ago, impregnated all the local girls of a certain age, then left town. The father wasn't actually a nobleman, but was a con man (or an adventuring bard... same thing at times), but the players will likely want to follow his trail (of which there's next to nothing).

So, we're starting with Crypt of the Everflame, taking place in the party's home town. The party is given the task of completing the ritual as a way of saying, "congratulations for surviving to adulthood. Here are a couple gifts from us and good luck in the world." In the pre-campaign emails, I've painted a picture of the townsfolk buying things and hiding them like Christmas presents.

From there, on to a couple side adventures, then the Crown of the Kobold King. By that time, knowing my players, they'll have made themselves a huge pain in the ass for every faction they encounter, and will be given the charter to explore the Stolen Lands not out of trust, but because doing so gets them out of the local rulers' hair.

And now, my Kingmakers:

Guise: half-elf ranger
Shiori: half-elf rogue
Bryet: human druid
Unnamed Kingmaker 1: half-elf bard
Unnamed Kingmaker 2: human monk
Unnamed Kingmaker 3: half-elf cleric

Yes, they are completely lacking in primary arcane casters, but I fear how buffed they'll get if given a couple rounds to prepare.

I'm so excited to start, I'm ready to wet myself...

Wandering Monster wrote:

Our game has started in this thread. My character's name is Big Ern.

I wasn't paying attention when the other folks mentioned their names, so I just call them Rube, Twinkle-Toes, Li'l Ugly (and Big Ugly), Stubby, Beardo, Scratches and Leafy Joe. It's easier to remember that way.

My kingmaker group is well into Rivers Run Red now, and consist of the following party:

Marcus Muri - NG Human Male Fighter 4, trained by the sword scions, favoring longsword and shield, with dreams to become a swordmaster with no equal. Currently serving as Marshal.

Naadirah - NG Human Keleshite Cleric of Sarenrae 4, an exiled princess of Qadira, and the lifeline of the party with her warmth (both in terms of personality and in terms of having the Fire Domain) she keeps the party from each others throats out of combat, and keeps them from bleeding out with channeling and party boosts. Currently serving as Grand Diplomat.

Sammael Arioch - N Human Rogue 4, trained by the poisoners guild of Daggermark, he is aiming to be the shadow-lord of the fledgling nation, taking on all the dirty tasks that needs to be done, but the good guys abhor. Currently serving as spymaster.

Alexandrej Orlovsky - NG Human Wizard 4, barely noble enough to keep the Orlovsky name, the magic-prodigy (Int20) mastered his trade at 17, and now just turned 18, he serves the land as Magister, earning him much respect for skill well beyond his years.

Baron Janos - N Human Cavalier 4, as a member of the order of the dragon, he is determined to keep his people and his party aiming for new heights, and does all in his might to lead by example. Currently serving as the Ruler.

The rest of the cabinet consists of Jhod Kavken as High Priest, Akiros Ismort as General, Kesten Garess as Warden, Oleg Leveton as Treasurer and Svetlana Leveton just returned to her post as Councilor after maternity leave to give birth to twins.

I think that when they meet Corax the ranger, he will likely (if won over) be put in the position of Royal Assassin, as Sammael is in charge of all things shady, and I think he will find him suitable for such a task. Might even become his cohort later on.

Kyte - Male Elf Druid

Alexia - Half-Elf Infernal Sorceress
Jax - Human Ranger
Doc - Dwarf Cavalier of the Order of the Shield
Tahli - Halfling Aberrant Sorceress

10 players. That's right 10.

Currently half the group has gone into the Kamelands to deal with kobolds, while the other half has gone into the Narlmarches to find Svetlana's ring.

after session number 5.....

Ruslana, human sorceror 3 (celestial), LN.

Zalathes, half elf druid 3 (erastil fan boy), NG + bear.

Scarab Sages

Pretty big party, ours is.
Usually there's one or two people missing each session.

Vultan Surtova - Human Cavalier
He's kind of the leader of our rag tag group, and really the tank as well.

Hawk - Half-elf Rogue/Ranger
Not sure if the characters name really is hawk, or if it's just a nickname. But he's kinda the skill monkey rogue.

Kylar the Stealthy - Half-elf Rogue
Our combat rogue, pretty much focused on killing people and fast.

Maddela - Half-elf Sorcerer
Kind of a mixed bag, a very quiet player, but has managed to end many combats in a round or two.

Zarzuket - Gnome Summoner
Interesting character, his Eidoleon is combat orientated, and he sits in a deck chair during combat, reading.

Therfin the Vintner - Dwarf Cleric
Pretty basic, a cleric of Cayden Cailean, focused on buffing and healing, and combat when needed.

Tamane - Half-elf Ranger
Pretty new addition to the party, so haven't been able to get a good understanding of how she plays yet.

All in all, I usually have to buff up the encounters with this party.

The party composition has changed a bit IMC as some players have switched to different primary characters and/or player turnover, but the current roster is something like this:

Xanthus (General) - half-elf paladin 8

Cohort: Azzurri Ivorian - human paladin 2/oracle 4 of Desna

Fijitor (Marshal) - hobgoblin (reincarnated from a gnome) druid 8

Cohort: Duaval - human (reincarnated from an elf) fighter 6

Piere (no kingdom job) - halfling barbarian 1/sorcerer (air elemental bloodline) 7

Lilly (Grand Diplomat) - half-elf rogue 4/bard 4

Doga, son of Doga (Warden*) - hobgoblin inquisitor 8 of Abadar

* Doga will start being the Warden next month; the post is currently vacant because of ASSASSINATION!

Backup/secondary characters (or players who rarely show):

Mallare (no kingdom job) - elf wizard (transmuter) 8, the Magister

Gersemmi (High Priest) - dwarf fighter 2/cleric 6 of Pharasma

Irena (Ruler) - halfling barbarian 2/fighter 6

Relda (Magister) - human wizard 3/cleric 3/mystic theurge 1

The Councilor is Svetlana Leveton.

The Royal Assassin is Akiros the fallen paladin.

The Spymaster is Stricia Zuzulova, a nicer and lower-level version of the NPC from the Campaign Setting.

The Treasurer is some backup character named "Dex" that has never played and I don't even know what kind of char he is! I have a suspicion he may be the next person to get fired... :)

Had our first session last night. The players are:

D'artagnan Mordecai - human bard 1 - A former brigand and a storyteller, he is heading to the Stolen Lands to find new stories to tell. So far he has been sorely disappointed in the number of ladies to be found in the Greenbelt.

Thoth - anumus druid 1 - This bear-borne anumus was once the companion of a powerful druid. When the bear's life was coming to an end, the druid fed his pet the fruit of the anumus tree and granted him a new life.

Sa'dron Galoren - elf fighter 1 - The son of a fallen noble family, he has trekked into the Stolen Lands to regain some family honor. He wears his family's heirloom armor which was retrieved from his family's seized home by a close friend to his father.

Kenton Thornapple - human ranger 1 - "Are you looking at me funny," might be the first words you hear out of this socially inept ranger. His rough exterior and abrasive demeanor hide a good heart, though.

Arabella - human witch 1 - Arabella and her sister Isadora (NPC) are travelling to find a new home in the Stolen Lands. They've probably prepared for settling more than the others in the party. The list of items they brought to the Greenbelt include chickens, seed, a plow, shovels, etc.

Thought to revise my group and bump this thread :)

I've added two more players to my party since the first session.

Ranson - half-orc paladin of Iomedae - Ranson was contacted by a herald of Iomedae in the night and told to travel north to southern Brevoy where a group of adventurers were to establish a new kingdom. He was captured by some bandits and held captive at the Thorn River Ford camp until rescued by the adventurers.

Missy - half-elf rogue - The term "cusses like a sailor" defines this young half-elf. She was on her way to confront some fellow named Dovan from Nisroch who she found out had killed her parents. When she was accosted by two hobgoblins and a worg in the northern Stolen Lands, the adventuring party was on hand to assist her escape.

Cool thing about the player who plays Missy is he hasn't played D&D since the early 80s when he was in the Navy. Everyone is level 2 and they've explored a good chunk of the northern Greenbelt now.

The expatriate Galtan cavalier, Sir Guy Gadbois d'Amber, that we were planning to put on the throne come the second adventure died in the very first combat of the first adventure, so our party is left with the following PCs:

Iacobus Male human (Taldane) bronze dragon shaman* escapee of the Grand Experiment.
Pomana Skuggisdóttir Female human (half-Varisian) alchemist of the Whispering Way (me).
Uri Male human (Ulfen) monk trained in the ways of the mysterious Kusari-Gama (replacing Sir d'Amber).
White Magda Female half-elf (Ulfen) bard mistress of the whip.

We've got one more player that'll be coming in the next time we play, but it's now looking dangerously like my character will have to wear the bejeweled crown of Aquilonia upon her troubled brow...

We're about to start Kingmaker tomorrow evening and my group at present consists of:

  • Andrick - half-orc ranger (favored enemy: human)
  • Ash Darkblade - tiefling fighter (swordlord/samurai flavor)
  • Kepli Tosscobble - halfling bard (but not leader material)
  • Vodim Orlovsky - cleric of Abadar (leader material)
  • Vikenti Vistin - human(ish) sorceror (with something not right about that lad)

  • Trix (f Gnome Druid) from Gronzi Forest
  • yet unnamed (f Human Rogue)
  • Narm Faulk (m Dwarf Fighter) from Brunderton
  • Hakon Marcian of Yanmass (m Halfling Cavalier) from Taldor
  • yet unnamed (m Elf Monk)

Our party started on Saturday, we didn't roll one random encounter and explored 20 hexes. Not sure if that is a good thing since we only gained 439 xp.

Anyway the party consists of
Melenkurion, a half-elf cleric of Erastil (holy warrior variant)
Neska, a half-orc female druid avenger
Rumex, a human fey sorcerer
Tohl, a half-dark elf rogue (assassin wannabee)
Avrin, a half-elf ranger

And we suborned one of Happs bandits to act as a bodyguard for our sorcerer, Which worked well when the man critted with his bow.

Cheers

French Wolf wrote:

Wow - are you sure your dice aren't loaded? Even on horseback, it takes 4 hours to travel between hexes and 8 to explore them. So, to explore 2 hexes, it would take 4+4+8+8 = 24 hours at 8hrs/day is 3 days. So three days and nights of possible random encounters means six rolls plus two more for entering new hexes. The probability of not getting a random encounter is:

0.85^4 * 0.95^2 = 0.4711

So you have a little better than 50/50 to have a random encounter after exploring two hexes. Repeat that 10 times (assuming you never backtracked or waited around anywhere) and the probability of no encounter becomes:

0.4711^10 = 0.00053855

So you had a 99.9995% chance of rolling at least one random encounter so far.

Our Kingmaker Campaign started last night!! The first game was a blast with suicidal Bandits, greased Kobolds and perception-less Dwarves!

Our Kingmaker party ended up being 6 players

Glanglau- A Dward Fighter who dual weilds sheilds and is seeking his missing clan, as the dwarves disapeared from Brevoy. Gruff and a bit Uncouth he is hiding a heart of gold!

Kyler Stern- Elf Rogue trained in the arts of assassination close friend to the future ruler of the new Kingdom. An orphan he seeks to find his parents and perhaps get Vengance against those who killed them!

Acheron- Human Bard last remaining heir to the Brevoy throne in hidding for fear of whatever caused his family's strange disapearance. Destined to be Ruler of a new Kingdom!

Lucion- Human Cleric of Caiden Cailean Devout protector and redeemed Brigand. Seeking to bring the freedom and brotherhood of his god to all he encounters.

Serah- Halfling Ranger and escaped slave from Chelix. Hopes to provide a safe haven for those running from the injustice of Slavery.

Weeloc- Elf Wizard and Conjurer seeking to make his name after leaving his arcane schooling as only second in his class. Has a severe hatred of all things Illusionary and refuses to trust such "Tom Foolery"!

We were doing two dice rolls per hex, one to enter and one to search, and each hex was taking 24 hours game time to cover. I'll mention this to the DM tomorrow, since it sounds like he may have missed a trick.

Even then we didn't get lower than 20% in all those rolls.

Cheers

i think i rolled one per day, and one per night....but if nothing happened for 3-4 days im force an encounter

about 1/3rd where a combat, 1/3rd where a social, 1/3rd combos of skill challenge type things or just an site of interest

Thanks Kyle.

Ohd the Weak - Male Half-Orc Barbarian - Though he stands 6'7" tall and weighs in at just under 300lbs, Ohd was considered weak by his Orc father and the rest of their clan. However, he managed to survive a couple battles and earned himself a name (I run orcs like the north men from the First Law Trilogy). Blah blah story blah blah and now he is something of a free-lance venture capitalist that deals in goods aquired at rock bottom prices.

Baguvan Jai "Tipu" - Male Vudrani Cleric of Irori - Tipu was the promising son of a powerful lord in Vudra until he decided to follow his calling and join the priesthood of Irori. His travels lead him to the far north where he was both mugged and rescued by Ohd. They have been traveling together for a while now and Tipu has lost a bit of his clerical edge and is trying to get himself back on the path towards enlightenment. If only ale and women weren't so entertaining...

Aratos Resnick - Male Human Abyssal Bloodline Sorcerer - Aratos was born to a tavern wench in Port Ice. His father is unknown but his mother hinted at him being a very powerful man. Unfortunately for Aratos his mother was decended from a line of hags and witches from the northern wastes. This has begun manifesting in horrendous dreams, creepy occurences and some new powers that he is just beginning to learn how to control. He has made his way in the world as a gambler, raconteur and confidence man. All along he has attempted to track down who his father is, and dealt with the snobbish nobility and their disdain for his bastard status. He met up with Ohd and Tipu two years ago and has enjoyed their company and backup when things turn south with one of his schemes.

Zander of Nirmathas - Male Nirmathan Ranger - One day when he was in his mid twenties Zander decided to simply pack up his satchel of belongings and strike out east to see just what was so exciting about the outside world. Through sheer luck and classic Nirmathan bullheadedness he survived and even managed to enjoy himself. He encountered the other characters when they got themselves lost in the unforgiving wilds of Numeria. Never one to mince words or socialize over much with people, he none the less led the others to safety and has simply stuck around as a constant companion ever since. The others couldn't begin to tell you his motives but he's reliable and always there when needed.

At the beginning of our version of Kingmaker the party has found themselves in Restov. Aratos is playing a high stakes game of Three Dragon Ante with a simpering noble sot who has just tossed his Charter to explore the Greenbelt in to the pot just to mock Aratos and his obvious low birth. Unbeknownst to them a ranking Swordlord is in the crowd watching it unfold, and he has taken an interest in Mr. Resnick.

The Aristocrat isn't all that bad of a start, I would probably just slap the bard (or marshal) abilities on top and call it something like "Presence" or "Bold Personality".

I would add an insightful strike ability, some noble "talents" and make its a more martialy skill monkey

He's heard how deadly Kingmaker is, and has "Six Brothers" written into his backstory should he need to roll up a new character. I think it's pretty obvious what his naming conventions are likely to be.

Progressing Nicley....after session 10

Ruslana, human sorceror 5 (celestial), LN.

Zalathes, half elf druid 5 (erastil fan boy), NG + bear.

Morhirr, elf sorceror 2 (infernal), Ranger 3 (anti-fey), LE.

Alagastor, elf sorceror 5 (infernal), LE

Kjatana, human Fighter 3 / Rogue 2, TWF, LE

Ranulph, half elf rogue 2, Inquisitor 3, TWF, N

Cheqin, human bard 5, N

....where there is chaos we will bring order....

After session three my group cosists of:
*Aucassin, LG male human Paladin of Erastil. Originally of the Orlovsky family line but due to a scandal (see below) he's grown up in Rostland.
*"Dante", LN male human Monk. Aucassins uncle. In his youth he was framed for murder and was forced to flee Brevoy. He wandered the world for 20 or so years before returning to Brevoy under an assumed name, to check in on his family. Not really a monk, more of an unarmed fighter/vagabond (sort of like Caine in the kung fu series mixed with Zeb Macahan from the series The Macahans).

Since our group is so small (me and 2 other ppl) i'm also running a GMPC:
*Alessia, CG female human Bard/Swashbuckler (from Tome of Secrets). A minor Rostlandic noble, whose family raised Aucassin (Friends of Aucassins parents).

We're still fleshing out the characters but my guess is that they will work out really well!

Ok, so after 25 sessions split between two groups, many deaths, less reincarnations, and more replacements, my two groups in the Tale of Two Cities campaign have come to stand as follows:

The Exchange

As a player who caught this off of the 'recent posts' sideboard, I avoided reading the thread aside from the first post to dodge spoilers. Having said that, I was particularly proud of my character, and will now share him.

He's a Gnome sorcerer of the arcane bloodline. The spells he has and the ones he will develop play heavily into his racial affinity for illusion magic, with a good offering of enchantments as well.

As a strong believer in giving proper and appropriate names to my characters, I wound up with Hodgwick Elmut Lind Nackleger Fizzwi Gorben-Aerajibble Dalfoodle Wagripscheppest Zookman Jebtwiss Xyglminder Yoopagigigi Pilzig Roonbert Quignip Boddybuck Ipkuss Murai von Turbidle Utmola Olffbert Klemji Coinfoot senior*.

I've had the opportunity to repeat that 4 times in character so far, and look forward to using the full name every chance I get.

*There isn't a junior, his parents added the 'senior' to the end pre-emptively.

Sczarni

no finalized stuff yet, so no full PC's to post, but it's looking like we'll have 6 PC's to start this Sunday.

Human Cavalier (Cockatrice Order)
Human Sorcerer (Infernal Bloodline)
Gnomish Barbarian
Gnomish Summoner (may change, depending on the APG final rules)
Half-Orc Cleric (Desna?)
Elf Druid (Erastil)

I foresee a lot of captive (Charmed, Dominated, etc) Bandits in the near future, as well as plenty of inter-party conflicts!

Tomaz Orlovsky (human bard)
Caught performing a not-so-harmless act of youthful pranking, Tomaz was rescued from the executioner's axe by his family only to be sent into exile to the Stolen Lands. Handed a charter from the Swordlords of Restov as a death sentence, Tomaz swore that his countrymen would learn to respect him...

Maladan Bale (human inquisitor - Erastil)
After a liftetime colored by war, worship, and drink, Maladan was recruited by Tomaz as a family friend on his "expedition". Maladan has vowed to fulfill his wartime vow to Tomaz' father to look after his son, even if that vow was decades ago.

Aeric Lebeda (human alchemist)
A brilliant student of the alchemical arts, Aeric is trying to rebuild his life after having been spurned by the woman he loves. When his cousin Tomaz mentioned an adventure and the opportunity to perform romantic deeds of daring, Aeric leapt at an opportunity to win the affection of his bride.

Anatalia Miserenkov (human paladin of Sarenrae)
Ana left a childhood in the brothels of Cheliax to help run halfling slaves to the River Kingdoms. Just when she thought she'd finally found peace, bandits laid waste to her saviors' farm and chased her North into the Stolen Lands. While nearly dying in the dessicating heat of the Kamelands, the sun goddess burned a vision into her mind and a scimitar into her hand. She now seeks to help others that may have lost their way (spriitually or otherwise) in the Stolen Lands.

Jonah Evanstree (human sorcerer - fey)
An enigmatic child found by Anatalia in the Stolen Lands, Jonah both sparkles with cherubic charm and hints at darker goings-on behind those big eyes and that lock of hair. He doesn't say much except to his pet rat Frederick (who happens to be dead) and no one is quite sure of his agenda (if he has one), but for now he's happy to be the party's guide and stick with his "Lady of Swords"

Dark Archive

I think this may very well be my first post on the message boards.

Just started running Kingmaker - the first Pathfinder adventure path I've run with some friends. We've played a few sessions and, so far, it's been lots of fun. I have a party of 5 misfit, would-be explorers who will one day be among the most influential and respected people in the region. But today, they're virtually unknown.

Arryn Medvyed: CG Female Human Ranger 1.
A cousin of the main Medvyed line, but grew up in a fair amount of affluence, and enjoys a more "upscale" lifestyle. Very materialistic for a ranger, and somewhat greedy. Even so, she's an outdoorsy type, and has an abiding respect for nature and for the fey (who are also her favored enemy, based upon her knowledge of them). She joined the expedition into the Greenbelt hoping to cash in by being among the first to fully map the area.
Arryn's main flaw is her greed, and her spoiled upbringing. The prospect of wealth often overrides her better judgment. She's also not used to relying on equals, always having been a bit of a loner. Her main strength is her deep understanding of the capricious fey, as both potential allies, or deadly enemies - and how to tell the difference.

Deck: CG Male Human Fighter 1
A young warrior who grew up enraptured of the legends surrounding the heroic Aldori swordlords, and has trained hard to eventually stand amongst their number. Considers himself heroic - but really is just brash, and barely understands the realities of the hardships that forge a hero. Joined the expedition into the Greenbelt for an opportunity to hone his abilities and experience some real adventure.
Deck's main flaw is his foolhardy brashness. He's headstrong, and rarely thinks before he leaps. Interestingly, this is also his main strength because his heart is absolutely in the right place - if he can temper himself with wisdom, he could make a great leader. Assuming he doesn't get himself killed first.

Kaela: CG Female Half-Elf Rogue 1.
A young woman who grew up with a hard life, and turned to banditry, which she initially saw as somewhat "glamorous". Eventually grew disillusioned with the realities of the lifestyle, even outright cynical of banditry in general, and is now trying to "go straight". Joined the expedition into the Greenbelt to turn over a new leaf, and leave her past behind.
Kaela's main flaw is her cynicism, and her hatred of her old life. She's suspicious of strangers, and has no patience for bandits - even those who would seek to reform - which is ironic because she herself is a reforming bandit. Her main strength is her quick wit and charm. She's surprisingly diplomatic, a skill she might not even fully realize she has yet.

Strombolopolous: LG Male Gnome Monk 1
An eccentric, enigmatic gnome who has embraced the monastic disciplines of Irori. Is on a journey of discovery and excitement, far from home, living a simple life on the road. He is also ascetic, with little material wealth to speak of. Joined the expedition into the Greenbelt because it seemed exciting.
Strom's main flaw is his flighty nature, which couples with his tendency to over-think problems. He's slow to make solid decisions, is is quick to change his mind, and can often be indecisive when quick action is needed. His main strength is, however, his open-mindedness. He's willing to look for the best in other people, and encourage it, and rarely jumps to conclusions.

William of Erastil: NG Male Human Cleric of Erastil 1
Also known as William Surtova, but has distanced himself from his noble heritage. A devout worshiper of Old Deadeye, with a very practical approach to life - often acting as the tempered voice of wisdom. A bit specist, viewing non-demihumans as monsters and vermin rather than people. Joined the expedition into the Greenbelt to help spread the faith of Erastil in a new, wild territory.
William's main flaw is his specism. Ironically, he considers himself an inclusive guy - a part of his faith in Erastil is his "community" domain - and believes all demi-humans can get along. But there are a lot of potential avenues for success he's closed off by dismissing "lesser" races. His main strength is the common sense that comes from his faith - he's reasoned and thoughtful, and acts as a counterpoint to the more impulsive nature of the other party members.

I really like the set the players came up with (despite the utter lack of arcane magic), especially considering they're all fairly young, inexperienced characters. The founding of the kingdom and it's development will hopefully be mirrored in their "coming of age" story, as they become the leaders their new nation will need.

welcome

glad you are having fun

nice that your party of 'goodly chaos warriors', can have as much success as my groups 'neutral arcane law-bringers'

think that shows the strength of the mod.
