Black Tom |

The eagles don't seem to be able to hurt the demons and even Tika's bolt bounces off their hide. Roylenna's fiery ray and Artival's missiles seem to hurt them though, but not enough to drop them.
The demons cackle unpleasantly as they conjure two clouds of noxious vapors, one centered upon the man and boy, and one that billows into the inn through the window where the halfling girls are standing, forcing a Fort save vs. 13.
The remaining demons claw and tear at Mahaffy, but only one of them hits, for 3 points of damage.
At the same time, a deep baritone takes up the song that Tika's singing, adding another +1 to hit and damage and saves vs fear for you.
The clouds are 20 feet radius and block line of sight from the window and to the two demons on the ramp. Not that you'll want to stay by the window anyway.
You're up again.

Artival Brisboir |

BT, my understanding is that the ramp is all fogged up right now, so Artival does not have line of sight on the demons anymore. If this is correct, then I will ready an action.
Artival coughs, as the fog obscures his vision of the outside. He continues to hold his ground, preparing to cast a spell at the first monster that comes into view.

Black Tom |

I presume Lyria's earlier bolt hit the demon as well but caused no damage.
Lyria delays till after the demons (so she can act twice in a row). If the eagles can, they should try and keep harassing the demons.
Apparently there's not much Lyria can do aside of healing during this fight.
Lyria's bolt did indeed bounce off the demons. The eagles will give both Mahaffy and Tika flanking, but they'd need a crit to be able to damage the demons. Delaying won't let you act twice in a row, though.

Black Tom |

With a somersault Tika lands heavily, taking 8 points of damage as she rises, ready to do battle.
The father and son were caught in the noisome fog, and the father succumbs to the fumes. The son is trying to drag his father out of it, but they are too slow. The demons are gaining on them. As man, boy and demon exit the cloud the demon is hit by a pair of magic missiles from alert Artival. One of the demons to the left is stuck in the cloud, while the other moves to F15. The man and boy are at E16 and F16. You can roll for damage.
Down below the demons continue to assault Mahaffy, and one of them goes after Tika. Mahaffy is clawed for 5 points of damage, Tika for 3.
Putting Tika in M28, we only need to remove the demon in M22.
A slender man with dark complexion, the source of the mellow baritone, runs up next to Lyria and throws a dagger into the fray below, wounding one of the demons slightly. The next instant the dagger reappears in his hand.
You're up.

Lyria Ghoulbane |

Could Lyria use her earlier action to move towards the father and son and heal them? If she can, that's what she would do on the earlier round.
And for the eagle attacks of the previous round, using smite evil (hoping for crits):
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
It isn't listed, but if the critical range for the eagle attacks is 20, one should have hit for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage. (Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11)

Black Tom |

Lyria moves to help the father and son, but they are not wounded. She manages to block the demon from reaching Artival, though.
Mahaffy drops his opponent and so does Tika (although not as permanently).
Since Artival's readied action was triggered after the monster's turn, Roylenna is up and then the demons.
Oh, and I'm houseruling that Roylenna's Heavenly Fire isn't literally fire and thus bypasses DR. And yes, natural weapons have a threat range of 20. The crit wasn't enough to penetrate DR though.

Roylenna Brenoien |

Sorry, very short on time.
Roylenna follows Lyria's attention, moving over to the wall above the ramp to provide supporting fire. She will use her Heavenly Fire on the demon that Artival had wounded (I think it's the only one visible at the moment).
Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27 I've been forgetting +3 to hit from bardic music x2 and bless
Damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 I don't believe either spell effect provides a bonus to spell or spell-like ability damage, so it's not included. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Will update the map asap, but it won't be before this evening.

Black Tom |

The demon is seared by Roylenna's holy flame, but its unholy fury still keeps it going. It claws Lyria for 6 points of damage, as the son draws his father away.
Below you hear the clamor of the approaching guard. Your anonymous ally flings his dagger at the demon below yet again, but fails to penetrate its thick hide.
The remaining demon hits Mahaffy for 2 points of damage, while Tika's opponent crawls out of the slick spot and rises, provoking an AoO.
You're up again. Three demons standing, two of them badly wounded.

Roylenna Brenoien |

Wow, awesome job, all!
Roylenna lets fly at the demon on the ramp again.
Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Heavenly Fire damage 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Once again, the emerald ray springs from her hand, turning a violent, angry red as it strikes the inhuman beast, burning it again.

Black Tom |

Artival's missiles finish the threatening monster upstairs while Mahaffy gives the one below a mighty blow to the collarbone, while Roylenna's Heavenly Fire makes it collapse into a putrid mess.
You get 514 xp for your trouble, and Mahaffy and Tika also get a hero point each for bravery and cinematic play.
The man in the red vest bows to you. "Well fought, my friends", he says, and a cheer goes up behind him from inside the inn. You noticed that the fight has drawn quite the crowd. Below the city guard is busy wiping dead demons off the street. "My", says the bard, looking over the railing. "They do get bolder every year, don't they? Never seen demons get this close to the city. He smiles winningly. My name is Rasputin, by the way."
It's getting late but you can still investigate the wizard's tower if you like. Or you can talk some more with people. Or you can go to bed and set out the next day.

Black Tom |

The father and son thank you profusely and the guard escorts them home. You are now local heroes and gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Diplomacy checks in Thunderhold.
Lyria also collects a snatch of information about Elinda Bannon, the missing wizard, from the relieved father:
I am afraid that Rhianna is still lost in space, but I hope Bombur is back. Anyway, will anyone join Lyria about town?

Ka'kara Furyheart |

Ka'kara comes stalking back to the battle-site and kicks one of the demon corpses angrily. Taking a moment to look around at the carnage, "Nice work. Just mad I missed out on all the fun." She suddenly chuckles to herself, "I've never been so afraid in all my life. They are tricky, that's for sure."

Black Tom |

Mahaffy turns to Rasputin
"Thanks for the help, there. Have you seen these demons elsewhere ? "
Rasputin frowns: "No, actually I haven't. They don't belong to this world, do they? By the way, you should claim the bodies before the guard makes off with them. There is a bounty on them, you know."
"It's been a pleasure making your acquaintance."
For the ones going about town, are you going anywhere in particular, and who's going to join in?

Roylenna Brenoien |

Roylenna just doesn't want Lyria to get attacked by herself. Wherever Lyria heads to is fine. Roylenna's in a good mood, fairly skipping as she works to keep up with the longer-legged members of the group.
She will work to aid Lyria in her inquiries.
Gather Information (aid another) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Black Tom |

It's really late and the market stalls are closed, so after walking around for a bit and having a conversation with a belligerent drunk, who claims that it's you damn adventurers who have drawn the monsters upon the town, and especially "that witch in the tower with the strange lights and whatnot". He's quite convinced that she was the one that summoned the monsters and now has gone off to join them.
He spits on the ground and it takes some smooth talking from Lyria and Roylenna (as well as Ka'kara's imposing presence) to make him calm down. Eventually you manage to send him home to sober up.
There isn't really much more to do right now, so I suggest that we fast-forward to the following morning. You can still make all the investigations you like. You can make a few more Gather Information checks if you like, but each one takes a few hours. If you specify the topics you might get more precise answers.
Do you want to explore some locations (like the wizard's tower) or just ask around? And are Rhianna and Bombur still MIA?

Black Tom |

Rasputin accepts your offer graciously and invites you to come and listen to his performance later that evening.
It's a brand new day and you are fully healed and have replenished your spells. You are all together, excepting Rhianna and Bombur, who are sleeping in. What do you want to do?

Black Tom |

Excellent. If you see the inner parapet sectioning the town, the inn is the oblong building right in the middle. Following the parapet to the left, the wizard's tower is the round tower set in the wall.
The wall is patrolled by the city guard, though, and a gruff sergeant says that you need a permit from Arb Angus to enter the wizard's tower. Do you want to get one?
There is no rush, so if some of you want to spend some money or ask around, we'll just time-warp it and take care of it in parallel. As long as you don't get into serious trouble there shouldn't be a problem.

Black Tom |

Arb is anxious to hear about your progress. His brow darkens when he realizes how little you have to go by. He is happy to help you with a permit, but he sighs that he can't help you with the magical wards that Elinda has placed there.
Returning to the tower the guards look at your permit and leave you alone. The steel door is locked, though.

Black Tom |

One of the guards starts to say something but is quickly hushed up by the others. Turning to you they say: "Yeah, the old girl was indeed inventive in protecting her stuff." (giggles) "The thieves have had to go elsewhere. Like I heard they robbed that old halfling hag of her magic rock collection. Must have been mighty disappointing for them when they realized that they weren't diamonds or something."
They don't seem very helpful but they seem to find an excuse to stick around watching you, grinning furtively.

Roylenna Brenoien |

With a smile that indicates she appreciates a good joke, too, Roylenna addresses the guards, "Now, you guys would not be holding out on us just for a laugh, would you? We are really hear to help with the scourge afflicting the town -- we're on the same side here, really."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Ah, phooey.
