and I don't mean a hot tub.
Ugh... NON-ISSUE.
They just won the gold medal. Let them enjoy their time, IOC.
The only reason I've heard of this is because they're making a big deal out of it.

UGH! This is the stupidest 'controversy' I've heard in a while. Little idiots saying that their partying on the ice was "disrespectful"-- disrespectful HOW, exactly? Who or what were they "disrespecting" by going out and drinking their liquor and smoking their cigars in what was- as far as they knew- an *empty rink?* Apparently the ice has eyes! And *delicate* freakin' sensibilities, to boot. I'm so sick of this idea that someone who trains becomes a really skilled athlete is branded a 'role-model' and forced to give up their privacy and expected to flawlessly conduct themselves to the standards of the *most* hypocritical "moral" prudes out there, just because they reach a level of competition that puts them in the public eye.

Which is horrible, because they would look really good in a hot tub.

Funny how it's acceptable for the male hockey players to break out the champagne on the ice in front of the crowd when they win the Stanley Cup, but for women to break out the cigars and a few beers in an ***empty rink*** after they've won Olympic gold... oooh, now that's just soooooo inappropriate...
And hey, Olympic athletes are people too... if they want to enjoy a cold beer on their own time after a sweet victory, then why should that be an issue?
Society's double standards never fail to astound me...

The biggest issue I can see is what was pointed out on ESPN. That is that several memebers of the team who were drinking were not of the legal drinking age.

They weren't of legal drinking age in British Columbia. The drinking age in Quebec is 18. Marie-Philip Poulin is from Quebec and I think she lives there.
Let the women have their fun. They deserve it.

I agree with the "it's a non-issue" crowd and the IOC won't investigate either

Even this is kind of iffy. The single player that has been mentioned as drinking under age is actually legal in her home province of Quebec (where the legal drinking age is 18) if not in BC. A minor faux pas at worst.
That said I think the media is getting the message - the vast majority of people think that this was basically a non-issue. The media wants a story and they went fishing for one were there really was nothing all that exciting.

I think the the real issue here that has the IOC fuming is the free advertising that a certain major beer brand got here in Canada. Through out the Olympic I didn't see on single advertisement for that beer but here this shot of Women's Hockey team partying on ICE with their brand, you can't buy publicity like that and VANOC nor the IOC can gain from any of it.
