Necromancer Build - Help!

Conversions

Hi you might have seen my previous post but if you haven't here is a link and these are kind of the guide lines i really want to follow.

OK and just remember this is my first official spell-caster.

Thank you and if you have any questions i should be able to answer them.

Wow, you took my literally on the thread title... Cool.

Anyway, I'll start thing off. Someone is bound to make a better suggestion later, but that's what this thread is about, so it is okay.

For stats, in order of importance.
Int, Dex, Con, Wis/Str, Cha

Wisdom and Strength are in the same place because Wisdom isn't really a dump stat(even for classes with good Will Saves), and you are going to be carrying around a book that has the potential to become a lot of book. Charisma? You mess with the dead, who cares if the living like you? ;)

Pathfinder Races: Any(even Half-Orcs, which saddens me)

3.5 Races: Dwarf, Human, Elf

Feats: This is a bit tougher than Ability scores and Race. If you want to go before the undead you may be fighting, Improved Initiative is the way to go. Spell Focus/Greater Spell Focus(Necromancy) will probably be on the list sooner or later. Improved Fortitude will help you if ghasts get to close. Combat Expertise increases your Armor Class, but decreases your chance of hitting with spells like Ray of Enfeeblement.

Skills: Knowledge(Arcana), Knowledge(Religion), and Spellcraft are top what you're going to need the most.

Spells to consider:

Lv0: Resistence, Disrupt Undead, Touch of Fatigue

Lv1: Protection From X(You get to choose Evil/Good/Law/Chaos when you cast the spell, just like Resist Energy), Magic Missile, Burning Hands(area spells are nice to have), Chill Touch, Ray of Enffeblement, Shield, Mage Armor

Lv2: Blur, Mirror Image, Blindness/Deafness, Command Undead, False Life, Spectral Hand, Spider Climb(get away from the skeletal horde!)

Lv3: Magic Circle Against X(See Protection from X), Displacement or Blink, Halt Undead, Ray of Exhuation, Vampiric Touch, Haste

I'm going to stop there, since this is your first time playing a caster of any kind. Hope this helps.

I can offer some general suggestions which focus mainly upon classes and prestige classes. Obviously, your mileage may vary, depending upon personal taste (yours and the DM's) and available sourcebooks. These suggestions are also 3.5-heavy, as I haven't played much PF.

3.5 base classes:

Cleric with some combination of Death, Undeath, Deathbound, and Hunger domains ... or go for Repose domain if trying for a non-Evil necromancer (all domains found in at least one of the following: PHB, Spell Compendium, Libris Mortis, FRCS/Player's Guide to Faerûn, not to mention the 3.5 Ravenloft PHB).

Wizard with Necromancy specialization.

Sorcerer with the Necromancy Bloodline feat (found in Dragon Compendium and Dragon #325). (Technically, a Bard could also take that feat, but I would consider that to be the equivalent of shooting oneself in the foot as that Bard would then have to give up the use of healing spells.)

Death Master (updated to 3.5 in Dragon Compendium), an Evil follower of Orcus who ends up actually becoming a lich at L 20 (prepared arcane spellcaster, book dependent, limited spell list, collects spells from the list like a Wizard) ... remember to get the errata here.

Dread Necromancer (found in Heroes of Horror), basically another lich-wannabe (but non-Good, not Evil) who ends up actually becoming a lich at L 20 (spontaneous arcane caster, limited spell list but with full access to all spells on it).

3.5 prestige classes:

True Necromancer (found in Libris Mortis), which combines divine and arcane spellcasting in one 14-level necromancer-friendly non-Good prestige class ... if one enters the class a.s.a.p., then by L 20 the character is Cleric 3/Wizard 3/True Necromancer 14, casting as a Wizard 15 and a Cleric 15, but casting necromancy school spells at effective caster level 19, and rebuking Undead as a Cleric 21 (and the character would be unlikely to run out of spells) ... if epic-level play is an option, then continue in the following prestige class.

Mystic Theurge (DMG), which combines divine and arcane spellcasting in a 10-level prestige class.

Pathfinder classes (not my personal speciality, so I'll limit my suggestions):

Sorcerer base class with the Undead bloodline.

Wizard base class with the Necromancy specialization.

Cleric base class with the Death domain.

Mystic Theurge prestige class class (although I'm not sure how well it combines with the above-mentioned PF base classes' class-level dependent class features).

Feats:

Libris Mortis is the 3.5 sourcebook which you want.

I hope that some of this helps! :)

Don't forget the Bone Oracle from the new Advanced Player's Guide - you can download the beta for free here.

Thats cool!

Just took a look at the Bone Oracle character, i like it. How would you go about making it, such as stats and spells and feats?

I moved the Mack_Daddy's original thread over to General Discussion.

Since most of the discussion seems to be over there, and they're basically the same thread, I'm going to leave this one here.
