My DM e-mailed me telling me I will have heavy minuses, still unclear about how many, but should I just forget about the gunslinger and go for strait rouge sniper? The only real reason I wanted to do these class choices was because I liked the idea of a hiding gunner, thought that was really cool, but if it gets to be a pain I will go back to just sniper.

To get rid of the "noise" and "flash" problem, get a wizard to put a silence spell on the gun, and a pin-pointed darkness or deeper darkness spell on the flash pan and end of the muzzle. Tada!! Silent musket sniper.

I was actually thinking about this though I might just get the wand of silence.

Well, normal sniping with a ranged weapon via the CRB is:

"Sniping: If you’ve already successfully used Stealth at
least 10 feet from your target, you can make one ranged
attack and then immediately use Stealth again. You take
a –20 penalty on your Stealth check to maintain your
obscured location."

The benefits of the sniper archetype are to reduce your ranged penalties, which means you can fire from father away, and it increases the range from which you can apply sneak attack damage. Those are both pretty good.

Basically, what you'll be doing is hiding, then firing, then hiding again. Your stealth check is opposed by their perception check. Note that hiding after firing requires a move action, so you're not going to be unleashing a full round of attacks and then hiding.

Now, the reason you want distance is that perception has a modifier for it:
Distance to the source, object, or creature +1/10 feet

So the farther away you are, the better your chances of hiding again are. It's a tradeoff though, because you'll get out of sneak attack range, and you'll start applying penalties to hit, which will make it less likely that you'll succeed in hitting/killing your target.

So saying this does make me want to still have the rouge levels, though what if I made a strait gunslinger that stayed farther from the party using stealth as the advantage and just try to make it so I shoot one, very powerful musket shot to someone. Also I would like to mention I am a halfling taking the swift as shadows trait.

1) Rogue.

2) Sniping with a gun is the art of shooting once and hiding. Even with arrows and sniping they know the general direction- just not where you are specifically. So yeah you can "snipe" with a gun and hide afterwards. The noise just tells them what they already know: the general direction of the shot. "sniping" doesn't make them blind to the fact that someone shot something or the general direction afterall- it just makes it where they don't see you standing up, shooting, and hunkering back down again.

Thank you for the correction it might happen quite a few times though. Also how would you rule it then? Sniping I mean, would you make it so the monsters would walk toward the source until they just ran into some guy behind cover shooting them or just a minus to stealth when sniping with a firearm?

To be honest I think I did my homework well enough, but I seem to not find anything, but everyone that I have asked said it does not matter what I had not found but common sense. I want to create the perfect steam punk style sniper.

I was going to create a rouge with sniper as the archetype sniper. Before that though I was going to go sniper, maybe pick the musket, trying to decide if I want 2 weapon fighting or not. Then I was like ya I will be a halfling with swift as shadows and just snipe people with a +13 stealth at first level it should be relevantly easy. Then I was like wait, can I even shoot a gun and snipe back into stealth? I have looked through both the new play test rules as well as the Chronicles campaign setting books, trying to find more with the fire arms. I have found no ule against steath shots with firearms, and maybe it is just me being stubborn but I think I should be able to do it, but I don't know.

I have asked my DM via e-mail, but he has not given me an answer yet. what does the message board think!?

Hi, i was wondering if this spell is really worth it? I was using it the other day and i feel like there are a lot of issues with it such as if you attack the halted undead they will be "unhalted". Also I feel like the spell command undead is slightly more useful and it is a lower spell level.

Don't get me wrong though in the correct situation it is great. It effects multiple undead and if they are not intelligent (by the level you get this they are intelligent) they do not get a save. And in this fashion you can do it one at a time.

I am going anti- undead as well as pro undead spells, is this a good spell?

Hi, i was making a Alchemist and i wanted to get more into the fluff of the looks of him. I got it all down until i ran into the problem of, what would the abilities look like, mostly the strength. So can someone tell me what different abilities scores look like? I'm planning to get my strength pretty high in the near future because I'm going barbarians and I'm trying to use the mutagens as much as possible. So by level 3 i will be Alchemist 2 barbarian 1 and after i rage and mutagen i will have a 21 strength. What would that look like?

Thank you if there is any way please try to keep this post up as long as possible this is very helpful.

Is there anyway to set up the message board to be delivered to my e-mail when there is a response to a message i put up for example this message is answered is there a way to get it on my e-mail?

Well it says something along the line of every alchemist does his thing differently and though it probably does not do what i want it to i will say that in the way he does it it is more like a drug with after effects on the body. Now of course game terms, yes, it wont effect the battle but to see a well built crazy man running around on the field with only but a few potion vials and bombs and hyped up on his own little mutagens would be so much fun to role play.

But i mean the class isn't official yet is it? Can they change a few things? Although i like the bombs and things i feel like the mutagens would be fun to have a few upgrades.

Thats cool but what about the mutagens? I think that game wise there are really cool but as for getting better mutagens it sucks. it seems like it doesn't upgrade at all till 12th level or so. Am i missing something about it that makes it better?

Also role play wise i was going to make a character that was crazy pretty strong and fit (unless mutagens are not worth it) and he is slightly disturbing looking at well from so many mutations to himself. But he is a genius but not all there in the brain.

Ok also i was wondering about armor. Does the spell check penalties ever come into play for the alchemist or can he wear any armor? with the right feats of course. Also i did not see a lot of things for the mutagens even though they look really cool. Is there something i missed because i only saw one or 2 discoveries for the mutagens?

Hi, i was looking at this class and all i could say was,"how COOL!" but for some reason, I'm sure it is plain as day, i cannot find what it's core abilities are other then Intelligence. I kind of imagine it's kinda open on that part.

Well as you know already it is the AP King Maker and from what i know, they will be able to adventure with me for as long as they live. But there is years between each book supposedly.

So other then that i can get back to you on the official answer but that is the answer for the moment.

Malisteen you had some questions and we have just figured out who is DMing and he had some answers. For one thing we start at lvl 1 and going to lvl 16 or higher.

Also were only using the pathfinder society rules and the new prestige classes coming out. So i guess that means no 3.5 converting unless it is pathfinder society approved conversion.

Last the're are 2 races that we can use including the primary races. One is the Tiefling and the other is the Aasimar.

And here are some other things:

*Character creation and play as per Pathfinder Society.

*PCs must have some motivation for contributing to the establishment of a kingdom.

*New or replacement PCs come in at three quarters of APL; e.g. 6th at APL 8th.

*Leadership feat is available but subject to my approval.

*Magic item creation feats are available for play.

*Plan on advancing to 16th level or higher.

*We will use aging effects; plan on five years between books.

*Humans, half-orcs, and tieflings will reach middle-age in second half of campaign.

*Training for advancement will occupy some off-time; we will role-play some of this.

*Obtaining harder to find magic items will occupy some off-time as well.

*The dominant alignment of the campaign is CN - Brevoy, River Kingdoms, Galt, and Numeria. The closest power center for Law and Good is Mendev. The Abadar faith is another keystone for Law in this area.

*Proficiency with the Aldori dueling sword (see Campaign Setting) allows it to
be used in the Duelist prestige class.

*Duration of Summon Monster and Summon Nature's Ally spells are minutes/level in
this campaign.

Well i think i have decided on the wizard with the necromancer school and for race i feel human is a good one. Last the story i put together with my character has to be directly connected to a "job" in the adventure path we will be running (King Maker). The only thing left is to actually build the character and have him set up for up to level 16.

For stats such as abilities i think it will be 20 points but at this point i don't know yet also since later on in the game i will be needing to save up for animate dead what kind of things should i get that will help.

Thank you again, if you have suggestions please put them up like i said other people might want to know as well.

Well thanks again Malisteen i very much appreciate it, but one thing i mention was what about a cleric, because he gets the animate dead spell a lot earlier and is slightly based on charisma?

Also another thing is fluff wise i might be able to take the death domain as well as the knowledge domain saying that in my studies i have found that death is a "perfection" and i begin to pursue it in a less direct way or something like that.

But with the wizard it is nice because just from what i am reading the wizard is much more to the point which being a first time spell caster it might be nice and easier on me then the cleric but i don't know for sure.

And last it seems that the cost of animating dead can get pretty lofty at higher levels so taking wizard might help me not spend so much GP.

So I'm trying to decide between cleric and wizard, tough choice to me, tell me what you think.

Well all of this looks good but i just noticed that a cleric can get animate dead as a 3rd level spell so would it be worth it to go for the cleric instead what with the channeling and things of that nature?

So i guess what i really am asking is which would be a better choice both fluff wise and character wise?

Wow i guess this is why i like to read post on Piazo everyone can help, is fast and does a very good job at it, thank you all very much i very much appreciate it.

First off i had a question for Malisteen, you were talking about "armies" of the undead. how would you go about doing this, not that i want to but that is an interesting idea. Also were playing the the pathfinder campaigns, such as Rise of the rune lord, which we just finished but i don't know what is next.

Now this does not mean i am done as i create it i might have some more questions and if i do i will be very happy if your all here to answer it.

So thank you to all, and i hope this will help others like me.

Thats cool!

Just took a look at the Bone Oracle character, i like it. How would you go about making it, such as stats and spells and feats?

Hi I'm sorry guys i just noticed something, I'm under conversions and have been is there any way to move it to discussions or something a little more appropriate?

Hi you might have seen my previous post but if you haven't here is a link and these are kind of the guide lines i really want to follow.

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/communityContent/conversions/makingANecromancerOfSomeKind

OK and just remember this is my first official spell-caster.

Thank you and if you have any questions i should be able to answer them.

OK this all looks great thank you very much to both of you, but there is one last question i wanted to ask. Is there a place in which i can get tips or just in general learn how to be a spell-caster because as i said this will be my first just for the fact that it sounds kinda difficult to make a really good spell caster, so if you could point me in a good direction because i'm still trying to figure in stats that i would want on this character that would be great.

Thank you all, i am still open to suggestion.

Thank you for replying so quickly to start off with, and another thing is both of you have some great ideas and i like them especially Mirror Mirror's last one he listed it sound more, "fluffed" which is what i like in a character but over all character in combat Dragonborn3 has a great idea with the whole "fire with fire" concept. to be honest though i did like mirrors and wanted to see if you can go more into it because to be honest I've only looked at the Libris Mortis book once and it did look pretty cool to me. Also do you think that the DM, whom ever that might be, would let me use that book.

And last was there some alignment argument before i missed about animate dead?

Hi, to start out i personally hate to play spell casters but never actually tried but the one I've been looking at is the necromancer. Now this is for my home game and i don't know what alignment I can or cannot be or mostly anything we don't even know who will be running the game at this current point. but the thing is i wanted to know how you all would make a good necromancer type character? now i say "type" because i want you guys to be "creative" about it, like it doesn't have to be a wizard that goes into the necromancer spells but something more creative like a cleric that is evil or something like that, though i would appreciate a more wizard outlook.

Thank you, i will try to respond to any questions you may have.
