Just popping in to say "Hi" to everyone. Sorry for being so quiet; I've been having a horrible month (apparently most of you all are having it rough too).
Take care all. I'm going to crawl under a rock and maybe wait till April gets here. :)
*sends ambrosia a hug*
Hope you feel better soon.
As for myself my late dad's birthday was today. I bought him a birthday card at the supermarket and the next time I visit his grave marker, I'm gonna leave it there for him. It's been two years since he died and I miss him very much.
On the flip side in April I am going to California with my mom and nephew/godson. So there is that to look forward to.

Sadly, I'm already at work - have been for a little over 2 hours now. Good thing is, I get off at 2:30 this afternoon, and have enough time built up that I can get off at 11:00 am tomorrow.
And, for about the last hour, I've been listening to a rat or squirrel run around in the ceiling overhead - very annoying.

I recommend, and am moving towards highly recommend (but feel like I should wait until I actually finish before so moving). I guess its the first real Africanesqe fantasy I've been exposed to other than Tarzan.Wow. Small world.
Now that you mention it, while at my godmother's house(where I go every Thanksgiving), I recall running into a book that had a very similar pretense- Africa rising up and defeating Rome, turning the entire population into slaves or something like that. My only disappointment(at least from reading the back cover) was that it was more africans-acting-roman and less african culture on the rise with respect to the issue of slavery. But this was ages ago, at least last Thanksgiving if not the one before, and my memory is hazy.
No Roman analogue in Imaro so far. It's all fantasy Africa. From part I to part II, he's moved from the savanna to the forest. So far, great read.

Weird, positive thing about my little problem. My buddy describes this as my brain having to relearn stimuli and how to process things. Yesterday's lunch was hummous and lamb. I thought I was gonna die as to how good it tasted. Today I'm having a light breakfast and am thinking the same about a bagel with cream cheese.
This harkens me back to a bit of info I found where it said that your tastes can change as a result of a brain bleed. Haven't found that they've changed, rather that I've forgotten how good some things can taste. Must experiment more later. Yummm.

So I'm trying to take some actual concrete steps towards going back to school. I registered to retake the GRE (since my old scores from 2002 are long since expired).
I want to email one of my old professors to meet with him, discuss my options, and hopefully get a recommendation, but I'm honestly terrified about it. He's a great guy, very knowledgeable and helpful, but he can be intimidating, and it feels weird to be wandering in seven years later. He knows I didn't stay in grad school the last time around already, so it's not like I'll be breaking that news to him, but I haven't talked to him since about 2005, and even then it was only briefly. Meh.

That sounds like an interesting experience. I like hearing this kind of stuff.
The brain is a mysterious organ. I remember one of my Latin teachers telling me a story (which may or may not have been true) about a Classics professor who had a stroke and lost the English language, but managed to retain Greek and Latin, because they were learned later in life and were retained in a different part of the brain.

What?! No hopes for the intern in the slave girl outfit? Gee, I thought y'all were my friends. ;)
A treant without a dryad around is like a day without sunshine.

One of the things I always loved about psychology was the way the brain worked with respect to strokes. It's almost like you're an old NES video game that someone broke the d-pad for and pressed left and right at the same time.

Just got it about a week ago myself- there are a few parallels to GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire, if that's your thing. It also lends itself well to troupe-style play, which I believe Ms. Stevens helped to pioneer in Ars Magica. I can guarantee the Kingmaker adventure path will be like no other we've seen to date.

mine!
Oh yeah, ToP for a doc update.
Endocrinologist visit was OK, not great. Apparently I didn't get his scrip when I was discharged, which requires blood draws once a month for 3 months. I hate needles. BP was good. Doc explained that the hemorrhage causes ADH production issues with the pituatary gland, resulting in the sodium issues. And I have to see him again in 3 months, then 6, then 1 year before I'm done. And I have to stay on fluid restrictions for 3 months, but I can gauge them myself. *sigh* Guess it was too much to hope I'd be done with him today. Got the 1st blood draw done today but had to go across the parking lot, due to the snafu. Still, the whole trip took less time than I thought.
Neurologist in an hour.
