Now for your reading pleasure at PATHFINDER CHRONICLER

Read the story they said was TOO CONTROVERSIAL! TOO SHOCKING! TOO GRAPHIC!

A Harvest to Remember

She was a pretty farmer's daughter. He was a strong young swordsman. What would they find together under the autumn leaves of Churlwood?

Introducing the fresh young starlette ARYSTA as herself.

Written using the startling 100% black and white PENASCOPE

A Harvest to Remember

Scarab Sages

More seriously, I wrote a story for Wayfinder 2 that Lilith said she liked but didn't feel was entirely appropriate for the magazine. So joined the good folks at Pathfinder Chronicler and after a few edits, and a couple of title changes, it's ready for the world.

Let me know what you think.

And while you're there, take a gander at some of the other stories that are up for people to read.

And if you feel a presing need to work on your own writing skills, editing skills and if you would like to try your hand at Golarion fanfiction, feel free to join us with an offering of your own.

Shadow Lodge

Wow. I did not expect that...

I am pleased to present you with this +1

The Exchange

Nice! I knew there would be a twist but it still surprised me.

Nice!

Sovereign Court

Not a bad story at all, though I've got to say that it's a waste of a good magic sword. Hahaha.

Nice story. I wonder about it, though.

A Harvest To Remember spoiler:
Is this lycanthropy hereditary? Did the children inherit it from their mother? Why did the father marry her, knowing the truth? Or did the father also just so happen to have the same hereditary condition?

Or is it the usual kind of lycanthropy, spread by bite? Did one parent bite the other? Did the parents deliberately give their children their condition? Why would they, if the mother is so reluctant for her daughter to obey this natural instinct?

Scarab Sages

Thank you each for your kind words concerning the story. I like to think that if you read it a second time, it is of such a nature that you realize what you thought you had read was actually something quite different throughout, from the title on.

Aaron:

Spoiler:
In Dungeons and Dragons (and in Pathfinder) lycanthropy is of two kinds. The Bestiary reads, ""Lycanthrope" is an inherited or acquired template..." The idea for the story (and another I'm working on at the moment) comes from the Gazeteer of Varisia (in AP#3 iirc) concerning the town of Wolf's Head. It is the Golarion equivalent of the town of Drago (from the novel The Howling).

Spoiler:
check that part again Morgen, the sword is not magical... the fighter lieas about that :P

Thanks for the reply, Wicht. I never read the AP nor the novel you mentioned, so I didn't know. I gather that...

Spoiler:
...lycanthropes are common in that area, which would answer my question.

Yes, Morgen knew that, as indicated by the "Hahaha."

Hey, Wicht, you don't suck.

Seriouly, I enjoyed the story. And I feel your pain on the title. If you're not going to use First Time, it would be great to think of another title that evokes the play you are going for. Seems like there's a line in dialogue that should end in a question mark, not a comma.

I liked that one Wicht!

A +1 from me as well.

As for why it didn't get into Wayfinder...probably because thats not the sort of story that party that is now short one man will write about, methinks.

Not to mention it was from the monster's perspective. That's the only reason I can think of. It was definitely a good story and worth the read.
Hmm...

Perhaps there should be a collection of stories told from monsters perspectives?

A story of say

Spoiler:
of the Skinsaw Murders for example...told from Xanesha's perspective? Things like that!

It'd be worth thinking about.

lol oops :P my bad :P

Liberty's Edge

Yasha, I don't think it has anything to do with the perspective, i think its more the game of words and the confusion it causes, most begin expecting certian thing.. and this might have been considered above PG13...

Spoiler:
hey! monsters also deserve the chance to tell their stories... and who say there are not a few PAthfidner whjo are really monsters in disguise.. Rakshasas, Doppelgangers, Lycantropes, they can all fit the bill, after all who said that the PAthfinder's Guild is a group of heroes?

It didn't make it in because the original title was "Her First Time," and Lilith thought the title (and perhaps content) was too provocative and sexually suggestive for the potential target audience.

Liberty's Edge

Well her lose :P
our gain
its must be said that Witch has been a great addition to the group.

Dark Archive

That is some pretty awesome writing there. Even though I had read the spoilers and knew wht was coming I was still surprised at the end.

Sovereign Court

Good tale Wicht. Indeed deserving of the +1's being bounced around in the thread (which brings you up to what, +3 now ... you got some oomph to ya! ;) ).

I loved it.

Spoiler:
I knew what was coming right off and wonder if I would have if I hadn't read a few posts in this thread earlier today that warned 'something was coming'. I think it was quite playful and just as enjoyable when you knew what was meant by "taking a man".

I haven't had the time to read much on Pathfinder Chronicler but I'll have to check it out more.

Please do, Trevor! We have much more Pathfinder goodness coming soon...including Pathfinders of Qadira and other ongoing fiction set in Golarion.

Scarab Sages

Once again, thanks to each for the kind words. It almost makes up for not making the cut again on the RPG superstar.

First +1 for the story. I think we all expected the twist, but the ride to the end was great too.

As for PG-13...

I think PG-13 ruined things. As a child of the 80's, we had G, PG, and R. And you could still get boobs and buns and a few 4 letter words (and even an orangutang giving you the finger...see Tony Danza's Going Ape) in a PG movie. (Clash of the Titans anyone?) But now with PG-13, everything has been pushed into R...

That being said, I think its a great movie and wouldn't think it is inappropriate for 13 year olds. And I like the character and the idea of the family "curse" and traditions...

well read, and well done.
completely brutal.
well if there was more to it, It'd make a good book.
dont have any pathfinder novels, or compilation of short tales.

they are in the working, but the group prefer quality over quantity... not that there is something wrong with quantity :P

Thanks everyone for giving us a read. We are just vamping up after a year, but we are definitely producing regularly now.

I also just joined the group and while I am currently writing more golarion specific fiction, it takes a little time to produce any amount of quantity. :)

I saw the twist from the get-go, but I still loved it.

And if I'm remembering correctly, this is the second story of yours that I've read now, and it's the second one I've enjoyed. First a very authentic Lovecraft pastiche in Wayfinder #1, and now this little gem. Good work.

EDIT: I, too, think I'm going to have to check in on Pathfinder Chronicler more often.

I'm glad you enjoyed both of them

But it is probably the third story of mine you have read. I also did a collaboration with Tarren and Neil for Wayfinder 1 - The Greenhorns. I did the dwarf's journal. Tarren did the minotaur's journal in that effort and Neil did the journal of the priestess.

Greenhorns, incidentally, continues in Wayfinder #2 for those that enjoyed the first offering.

Sweet stuff!
