I was hoping for an Option 5 (something clever from you guys maybe off another game you had been in) but forgot to put that on the list.

Option 2 it is unless the others pipe in with a new insight. The idea of pairing up or even the odd threesome is a good one, especially with the way some of you have built relationships and backgrounds already.

Part of the onus will be on people not to be loners or slow posting (myself included) and I'll try to give the odd nudge or two before forcing the group back together when needed.

I am intending for the party to use somewhere as a base of operations during their stay and hopefully the group will talk there when they meet up. Remember that to promote roleplay I tend to hand out snippets of info to different characters, sometimes on purpose and sometimes it just happens.

Now how is everyone doing on updating their PC? I'll take a look later.

Cheers

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

I also think option 2 is best.

HP 1d8 ⇒ 1 I hope I get the reroll

HP 1d8 ⇒ 1 and again

HP 1d8 ⇒ 5

I'll start going over the updates while my daughter sleeps (see how far we get with this).

Mark, what rogue talent did you pick up for second level? I have a feeling you may have missed that. The rest looks sound, I would appreciate a breakdown of your changes next time around please. Something like new level of rogue, hits 5, skill ranks x/y/Z, etc. It makes checking easier.

DM Note: I forgot to say that in my home game I let players re-roll if they get 1 hit point in the end. Ari rolled a 1 twice and then a 5 so he gets the five. That allows me to feel more justified in toughening up encounters a little.

Also you need to add his Con bonus to his hits and reset his current hit points.

The skill that made me smile was Ari has +7 in Knowledge Dung. Thanks Mark for that. However I think even with one rank Sleight of Hand should be +7 (+3Int, +1rank, +3 class bonus) and Craft (trapmaking) should be set at +6 (+2Dex, +1 rank, +3 class bonus). Last but my no means least, Ari should have a total of 24 ranks 2x(8+3Int+1(favoured class)) and my calculations make it 19. Can you take a look at them?

I reckon I can sneak in one more.

Kurn's CMB = +1 and CMD = 11.

He has Skill Focus as a feat - need to choose a particular skill such as Heal or Diplomacy for that and increase the skill by +3 as well.

Will Save = +6

You have 2 more ranks to assign thanks to high Intelligence. And because cleric is a favoured class, you can choose either having one more hit point or one more skill rank.

Thanks FW, it's a good job you are keeping an eye on me! Character sheet updated accordingly mon ami.

Male Half-Elf Rogue 2

Hi FW

Took a look at my character SofH is Dex based not Int.
He has 23 Ranks, minuses in some due to armour penalty, Acro 2, Climb 2, Disable Device 2, Disguise 2, Intimidate 2, Perception 2, Sense Motive 2, Slight Of Hand 1, Stealth 2, Swim 2, Know Loc 2, Know Dun 1, Craft Trap 1.

I took Power Attack as my Rogue Talent

Hope this is OK now

Then Sleight of Hand needs to be +6 like Stealth. Otherwise that is great, thanks for doing it so quick.

Jorgen is a fascinating character. I ended up reading all the spoilers.

Anyway everything looks good but can you make the following minor change,

Ranged: 3 Javelins +4 (+5 within 30') 1d6+1 x2 30ft
Ranged: 2 throwing hammers +4 (+5 within 30') 1d4+1 x2 20ft

Also if you get time can you list the ranks in each skill after each one (like Ragnar) it makes it much easier to check.

Otherwise I think my next PC may be an inquisitor, they rock. And with the way I am losing then I had better start writing him up now.

Cheers

Inquisitor is my new favourite Class. I think I'm onto my 4th Inquisitor now and I don't want to stop. :)

Saorise gained:

+1 BAB (also CMB/CMD)
+1 Will Save
7 hp (5 Roll + 2 CON)
+1 Rank in Knowledge (Arcana)
+1 Rank in Perception
+1 Rank in Spellcraft [Bonus Human]
+1 Rank in Stealth [Bonus Favoured Class]
Message (Cantrip) as her newly known Spell
+1 1st Level Spell/day

:)

The Exchange

Flash, thank you taking the time to help me like that. I appreciate it.

So that is Saorise, Jorgen, Ragnar, Ari and Kurn done.

Stefnir is good to go too.

Helga is good too. This leaves Anya and Khaladon posted he was busy so I shall move on now.

I did want to keep things going this weekend but my spare time has been taken up with projects such as a colour map of Stuvoy. Should be back on track by tomorrow.

I've emailed most of you a copy of the map of Stuvoy. Dabbler can you do the necessary on the game thread so that everyone can see it?

Spoiler:
hey bud, sorry to drop in on your game. I wanted to let you know I finally caved in and I'm dming another game on the boards. It was your little comment a few weeks ago that finally pushed me over to the darkside and I wanted to say thanks for the vote of confidence you gave me. I'd noticed you dropped a couple of games to make more time for your family, so I didn't drop you a line for an invite (I'm running Kingmaker and you'd just dropped that one, so figured you wouldn't have the time). Anyway, just popping in to say hi, and again, thanks for giving me the impetus to start again, I'm enjoying it immensly. Cheers

Spoiler:
I did notice that you were back in the saddle. Perhaps running an AP means less effort and time away from your daughter? That's what happens with Legacy of Fire for me. Anyway I left Kingmaker for several reasons, not least family, but its been a cursed AP for me. I lost two first level clerics in one day at my tabletop version and that was the third pbp I'd joined. They are lucky to get you, Milhar is still one of my favourite PC's.

Spoiler:
Yeah, running the AP is amazingly more time efficient than trying to run and develop a homebrew, however it's not as easy to create the level of immersiveness I think we got with Fall of Nations. I really don't think I'll ever get the time to do one like that again, which is a pity, because as you said, it was pretty good. We got lucky with players as much as anything else. Well, I'm at work on my weekend in order to get sorted for all our senior submission stuff. Better not waste any more of that time on roleplay stuff. I'll stop messing up your thread now too hehe. Take it easy bud, I'm still tracking this thread and enjoying it. Cheers

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

So, they want an explanation of what the possession thing is about and I'm certain Ragnar isn't the guy to put it forward, so if anyone needs a rundown on what I remember of the cursed ship:

  • The unfurled sail had a rune of destruction/storm/calamity on it, when previously thought blank.
  • The masthead was inscribed with a smoking rune and burst into flame when we set out to sea.
  • When Drago was layed out on the deck after being hit with the falling mast, runes spread out under him causing his leg to grow gangrenous, a fate Taggrik almost shared.
  • When we were beached at the cove, Taggrik was possessed and tried to murder the unconscious, post amputation Drago.
  • When Taggrik himself returned to consciousness, he said that he was convinced he was a dwarf sorcerer tortured and killed by a previous captain and crew of the Albatross and felt a driving obsession to for revenge on the captain, any captain.
  • During our row to Stuvoy, a black mass of rats burst up through the hold and the tiller became a snake in Kurn's hands.
  • And now a possessed Thorsten tried to murder Kurn in full view of Stuvoy's authorities.

The Exchange

Nice work, James. That covers it.

Cheers

While I don't mind being the party 'face' there are occasions when the party's leaders (Stefnir and Kurn) and other experts (Saorise and Jorgen) will have to speak up - now is one of them!

I had internet issues again and have been catching back up the past week (and unfortunately this PbP was the last I've caught up on due to it had the most posts and being an intensive game it will take me a lot longer to go through than my other ones. I am off work sick tomorrow though adn it is my mission to get back on track with it. I'm going to bed now, but expect me to post tomorrow. Once again, sorry for my absence.

Question for you guys, we are at a bit of a crossroads with the game. With your help I can work on the next parts of the adventure more thoroughly in one direction or another.

Firstly the lands of Ackrieg, and especially Stuvoy, are ripe for a Kingmaker style game of reclamation and growth.

Or we could continue with this as a party on the move and travelling further afield. Things like the lack of a ship can be resolved if needed.

Which would everyone prefer?

Cheers

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Vikings landing in America...Chance to explore and see what's there. Stefnir definitely prefers land over water...but I'm good either way.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

I like the idea of an overland conquering the unknown wilds.

Liberty's Edge

Kurn is designed for the sea and worships a sea God,so although I have no objection to a land based campaign in principle, some sea travel would be nice to give him something to do other than channel healing, annoy Stefnir and hate the witch!

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

I could do either, really, though I think Ragnar would jump at the chance to get some troll blood for his throat down the line. Staying on the move or getting in good with the locals also work for him in case Svart shows up. So, either way really.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Anya has no problems being on the sea and I like that just fine, but neither really get me going as much as a good 'overland (and under?) conquering the unknown wilds style campaign', as Mark puts it. I've enjoyed the village RPing stuff but Anya is a fighter and is built to kill stuff.

As for Kingmaker style? Not too familiar with it but as a general concept, I can't really see Anya working to help put someone else in command. At least not at this point in her adventures

This IS the internet you know ... Alegedly human Expert (IT) 5/Ninja 3/Witch 7

I am easy either way. A bit of wilderness trekking would round out my character concept, but in all honesty it doesn't need to be either sort for me. I like the idea of basing ourselves somewhere and trying to solve the villages problems, at least some of them!

The Exchange

Thanks for those comments. I had originally intended that the party travel round the outskirts of the land, but reading everyone's comments about overland exploration and mixing the land and water there is a better way of doing this using fjords, lochs and wide inland rivers.

Oh and Ragnar, I'll make sure there is a trollborn or two.

Cheers

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Resuscitating from the archives! Live damn you!!

As far as duties go, I guess Ragnar will be on the guard team, since I think Anya would quickly get bored with that and we should have at least one meatshield watching over the womenfolk.

Helga will be good for hunting!

I'll catch up with this tomorrow.
