The bonus fighter feat has to be one labeled as a "combat feat". The monk also starts with a bonus feat at 1st level, and even though there is a limited list of feats this applies to it is still a bonus 1st level feat. So a human monk or human fighter will start with three feats, each with a limitation on one of them.

Monks also get Improved Unarmed Strike and Stunning Fist.

Even better question. Where in the hell in the Core rulebook does it describe how players gain feats as they level? In the character generation section it says to check "class," but I'm seeing all sorts of posts where every character is also gaining additional feats for leveling at every odd level. Can someone tell me where to look to clarify this?

chapter 3 page 30 of the core rulebook table 3-1. Hopefully that is what you are looking for.
