Back Button Navigation Memory?

I'm going to throw this out in the realm of website feedback, but I'm not sure how to explain it since I'm not a programmer. I'd call it "Navigation Memory" or something. Here are counter-examples of what I'm talking about:

If I'm on eBay, and I'm searching through items and I scroll way down to the bottom of a page, see something I like then click on it and read it, I can hit my back button and it takes me back to the previous listing page, andthe page is still scrolled to the position it was in when I navigated away from it. Does that make sense?

When I'm surfing around my beloved Paizo boards, though, and I scroll way to the bottom of the messageboards page to peruse, say, the 'Off Topic' threads, see something I like, read it then hit the back button to return, then I'm shot all the way back up to the top of the main messageboards page, and the memory of my previous scrolling isn't maintained.

I just figured I'd voice that I like the former more than the latter. I thought that is how it used to be, but I could be wrong.

Of course, maybe there is a navigation habit I could pick up to bypass this, but I'd rather not just click on the root thread link.

Just, you know, some feedback!

This doesn't happen to me. What browser are you using?

AHA! I use Firefox! Just tried it on Explorer and it works how I like it (example #1).

So, I wonder what the intended use is, and if there is a fix for firefox?

I'm pretty sure it's up to the browser. For what it's worth, Safari and FireFox on the Mac both behave the way you prefer. Do you have the latest version of FireFox, or are you running any crazy plugins?

Latest updates from Firefox but no crazy plug-ins -tried adjusting my browsing preferences but there isn't a field that covers this aspect. Hmph.

You know, I switched browsers right about the same time Vic made some changes to the site a few months back, so I always assumed that they had changed that on their end (hence posting this as feedback). Onward to google to see if I can make some Firefox adjustments! Thanks folks!

I think it is because the pages served by paizo.com are headered "Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate". This "forces" your browser to reload the page, losing your scrolling status.

Yes I've noticed the exact same issue. I use both Firefox and IE on various machines and can confirm it only happens with Firefox. I've never mentioned it before but yes it would be nice if it could be sorted, it does make me crazy!

I am using the latest version of Firefox and this happens to me as well. I just right click and open the thread in a new tab. Of course I am sure you are aware of how to do that. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in.

This has always happened to me regardless of the firefox version. There is a firefox plugin called "IE View" that allows one to view webpages as if using IE. When I use this, the navigation works as intended.

Best.

That's exactly what I do.

I've also had a bit of trouble where the messageboard sidebar with the most recent posts refreshes when I hit the back button, rather than being the same ones that were there when I clicked away. Not a big deal, but something to remember, especially when I come back to my laptop after a few hours.
