This has to refer to guys who don't care to pay attention to the setting or roleplaying, but assume any attempt to build a plot is a "railroad".
DM: On the road toward town, you see signs of a recent battle. Armored bodies litter the road, each punctured by dozens of arrows.
Boozy Player: We just get on the plot train. What's here to fight? (Gets up) I'm gonna grab another beer from the 'fridge. Who else wants some?

Oops, sorry. I was being goofy by asking that question. TVs Frank had a lot of trouble with this one.

Ah, OK. Thanks.
Ambrosia Slaad had it. I just wasn't sure if there was some "cultural" reference that I was missing.

We were playing Rifts. I was redoing "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and the psychos were juicers with juicer M.D.C. chainsaws. Leatherface was a titan juicer. They had this badass offroad vehicle with a nuclear power pack; it went haywire and they had to go up to this house and fight some juicers.
But not this guy. Oh, no. He was gonna get on the train.

You should have assumed he meant that literally and had him go on a train track just when the train went by.I'm sure he'd appreciate your thoughtfulness.

That setup is awesome and if I wasn't getting rid of all my RIFTS stuff (for lack of players and shelfspace) I would totally steal that.

Dude.....unless you really need the $25 you'll get for your Rifts stuff, I can almost guarantee you'll kick yourself a lot in the future if you chuck it all. I peruse something from my Rifts stuff monthly at least.
Oh, and that Juicer Uprising book was the bestest thing EVAR. Cept for the Atlantis book.....

You need to mandate breathalyzer testing before your games start, Heathy. It won't help your PbP games, though.

Yeah, it p*$$es me off how valueless the books are. I've got 50+ books that I want to sell and no one wants to pay more than $1 per book.
I love some of the material but I just can't get a group together and Palladium's sloppy management / development has really soured me on the whole thing.
There are a few books that you really can't run a RIFTS game without, since they are continually referred back to. The core rulebook (regular or Ultimate Edition), Vampire Kingdoms, Atlantis, Undersea, Juicer Uprising, Coalition War Machine, Psyscape, Lone Star, Spirit West, New West, Federation of Magic, Sourcebook 1 (regular or revised), Conversion Book, Mercenaries, are basically the minimal books you need for a North American RIFTS campaign. Even with a Non North-American campaign, you need all except Lone Star, Spirit West, and New West. I'd also include D-Bees of North America as important, and the Warlords of Russia book is pretty vital as well (with all the Russian demons).
I really liked the Shemarrian Nation book, but it also feels like, sort of a bit late in the game for it to come, you know? Or a bit... detached, which is strange since it's got so much to be integrated with.

Yeah; but then I'd have to pass them too, theoretically.
And apparently spinal taps for some....

All I can say is this......"SPLUGORTH INVADE GOLARION!!!"| Lyingbastard |
I really want to play RIFTS. I want to love the system and the setting. And yet, it nearly constantly disappoints in some aspect. I can't really put my finger on it.
Also, for me, there are three artists that I'd really like to see handle all their art jobs, and quite a few I'd really rather not see at all. Ramon Perez, Kevin Long, and Apollo Akamura produce work that is basically how I think RIFTS should look. Some of the other work is just... well, I'm not a huge fan of it. I particularly don't care for most of the Drunk Duck Studios artwork, which seems to be the mainstay of the last several books.

I hope they make a damn Rifts movie soon.
Well, that unfortunately begs the question of what things are iconically RIFTS, that aren't easily pawned off as something else but that also won't take 20 minutes to explain. Also, what translates well to the screen?
Glitter Boys are, obviously, the RIFTS iconic class. And they might look awesome on the big screen.
Juicers - chemically enhanced, punk styled super-soldiers? I could certainly dig that. Be a good excuse for using 'bullet-time' and slo-mo sequences.
Crazies... might come off a bit cheesy.
Ley Line Walkers - probably be alright there.
Cyber-Knights - sure, they'll look like a Jedi rip-off, because essentially they are, but that's okay.
Headhunters / Borgs - could be awesome, could look retarded. Probably awesome.
Dog Boys - might look stupid onscreen. If they use them, they should use a variety of breeds so they don't just look like cheap werewolves.
Psi-Stalkers - gonna look like vampires/ghouls.
Bursters - the visually easiest to translate PCC
Giant Robots - say what you will about Transformers, they showed that giant robot fighting in a movie can be a lot better than "Robot Jox"

I think my favorite RIFTS books are (in no particular order): Lone Star (the source of much anguish for my PCs), Japan, Xiticix Invasion, Psyscape, and the Vanguard.
Such a tasty world setting...but a company in dire need of a facelift and some serious editing to make sense of the sprawl.
And some consistency. Every third book changes, adds, subtracts, or redefines rules. Sometimes the SAME rules. So you have 4 different applications / answers about one rule, all from the same source, so what do you do?
