A question about item utility

RPG Superstar™ 2010 General Discussion

I was just wanting to check if its alright for an item to not necessarily be intended as something the players could or would want to use. Say a cursed item or something plot devicey.

Do you see anything like that in the Core Rulebook?

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

I guess it depends on what you mean by "alright." The "submit" button will let you submit your entry whether its an artifact or a weapon or armor or a potion or a rod. So it would be "alright" in that sense to submit any item, in that it wont be "prohibited" by the electronic submission process.

Now, whether or not an item like that would be chosen or would be rejected, well I guess you could refer to the rules, to the DMG and Pathfinder RPG and to the many various thread on this topic. In fact, I'd be tempted to refer you to Neil's very helpful advice thread. Hopefully you didn't ignore that thread because it was so long--it after all being written by a guy who did pretty good in last year's competition or so I am told. Might be helpful.

You are not going to get item validation here. We won't pre-approve your idea or item type. That wouldn't be fair. That said, we've had these discussions before. Do your homework, check around. This is RPG-freaking-SUPERSTAR people. Not RPG Open Call. Step up.

(ooo, that was a bit grouchy for me, sorry about that :) --Orcus)

*nods* The advice thread is excellent.
