Ability modifiers on armor

Rules Questions

I wanted to give a robe of int +1 as a quest reward, and I got b~*$+ed at because apparently he thinks you can only put ability modifiers on items in even numbered increments. Also, the book says that an item has to be +1 to be further enchanted. Does that mean that the item is +1 AC, +1 int, or +1 AC, +2 int, or +1 int like I wanted?

Also, can anyone tell me what page of the core rulebook it says on?

Aren't you the DM ?

Ofcourse in a statpoint view, a +1 on an even score does nothing skillwise. Perhaps you can change the +1 to an uneven score he/she has.

Then it actually helps the character, but imo ... it's a quest reward ... and you're the GM.

I think there is another thread somewhere around here that also deals with a +1 item instead of +2 increments.

Edit:
found it ... check it out here ... that should help you some more then my noobie ramblings :)

+1 Stat Item Thread

As to a robe needing +1 AC to be enchanted, that is wrong. If it were a breatplate or a short sword, then it would need that first +1 enhancement before adding other nifties. For a robe, it's a wondrous item (not armor or a weapon) so it's fine to just have abilities tacked onto it.

So take it back.

He bites the hand that feeds him, so he starves for awhile.

You as DM feel free to give out whatever reward you find is appropriate. You do not need to find "a rule" to justify it.

Thanks for the clarification, Mauril. And to Selgard - it wasn't even for him, which makes the whole thing more strange. I shut him up by pointing out that I could just take it away until they start earning gear worth 4k instead of 1k.
