Some quick questions from yesterday's game. We took some decisions 'on the fly', but I'd like to know if there are some rules I missed making it a bit more clear...
- Jump checks. With a running jump check of 10-14 (10 feet jump) how many squares do you jump? I mean, if you started the jump on numeric keyboard '3' would you land on '9' (10 feet movement) or would you land on '*' (10 feet gap). We used the former.
- Entangle spell. Does it require vegetation to work or would it work in the middle of a dungeon, making plants appear. We used the former (need some form of vegetation already present).
- Tower shield + bull rush. Would a tower shield, used to grant full cover, protect against a bull rush attempt?. We said not.
Thanks!

You have to make the the minimum distance to the next square, which means you round down, not up.
The entangle spell requires existing vegetation. If there are no plants there is no entangle.
This spell causes tall grass, weeds, and other plants to wrap around foes in the area of effect or those that enter the area. Creatures that fail their save gain the entangled condition. Creatures that make their save can move as normal, but those that remain in the area must save again at the end of your turn. Creatures that move into the area must save immediately. Those that fail must end their movement and gain the entangled condition. Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the DC of the spell. The entire area of effect is considered difficult terrain while the effect lasts.
If the plants in the area are covered in thorns, those in the area take 1 point of damage each time they fail a save against the entangle or fail a check made to break free. Other effects, depending on the local plants, might be possible at GM discretion.
The tower shield does no prevent bull rushes. There is no reason it should stop you from being pushed back or knocked down.

We have always used the latter, also if the chasm you are jumping is 12 feet the DC would be 12. You basically (by our reasoning) can go airborne anywhere in the hex you are on so you are assuemd to jump at the very edge.
In this example where L = normal land, and C = Bottomless Chasm, it would take a 10 to clear the chasm... LLLCCLLL....though I would really want an 11 to not cut it quite so close :)

I don't understand your answer.
Imagine a PC wanting to jump over a 5-feet wide chasm. He is in one side, next to him is a chasm square, then a solid ground square again. If he wants to jump over it, he has to move 10 feet to end on the other side, but, does he need to beat an acrobatics DC of 5 (the wide of the chasm) or 10 (the total distance moved with the jump)? :-m
Thanks for your answers!

Entangle doesn't create plants, just makes all plant life active.
You can bull rush a tower shield using person.
