Just curious, did WOTC have this issue clearly spelled out in the pdf file agreement you signed up for or were you completely unaware that the file was protected in this manner? Was it small print in the agreement that you would have to really search for or did they make it real obvious what the consequences would be?
How or when does your service return? Will it? If it doesn't what happens to the money you paid? Lost completely or partial refund?

You are not supposed to transfer electronics materials to another person's PC. It would be no different than scanning a book into pdf form and giving it to them. Your "buddy" probably downloads other items. I am assuming he put your pdfs in that folder which led it being online. Your name was noticed, and you are the one paying for it.
I would have allowed him to come to the house to look at them, but I would not have given them to him. Even if he did not intend to upload them things happen. He may have another friend, and that friend may take them off his PC without permission, which still leads back to you.
Sorry to hear what happened. If they let you back in the door I can only suggest that you be more careful.

I can only guess that your "buddy" either posted your PDFs illegally, or gave them on to someone else that posted them in some manner ... and you get the blame because your name is connected to any and all PDFs you purchase so that the folks that make them can track down pirates.
I'm truly afraid you are SOL, and should look for more trustworthy friends.

Lesson to be learnt (yes, I'm claiming the moral high ground ;)), next time, give your friend the money to buy the PDFs himself :)
