Characters becoming Pathfinders?

Council of Thieves

Scarab Sages

One of my players has a character who took the trait with the borrowed wayfinder, from Ailyn, of course. He is planning on taking the Pathfinder Chronicler prestige class.

I'm thinking the eventual arrangement will be that he submits his journal entrys of the adventures the group goes on.

I like this arrangement because if, in the future, I really need to push the characters somewhere and they aren't taking the hook, I can have the Pathfinder Society request a certain item or whatever.

What Lies in Dust has several advantages for players who are Pathfinders.

I'm fairly new to DMing, are there any suggestions for how I can help this character become a Pathfinder?

Yes, I think the Pathfinder Chroniclers were made for that very purpose Deidre.

If you would like the full story on Pathfinders, get the Seeker of Secrets book/pdf. I recommend it, especially if you will do multiple campaigns using Pathfinder rules.

In a nutshell, it is fairly hard (maybe too hard?) to become a full-fledged initiate. There is a long time that has to be spent at the Grand Lodge in Absalom. The path your PCs will probably take, however, is more of an apply-current-adventure shortcut. In this case, have the PC report to the Society or have him be approached by a venture-captain interested in their current quest.

Well there are some interesting facts on 'normal' entry into the pathfinders from Seekers of Secrets book, it also mentions field commissions, and many of the NPCs a journyman pathfinder would talk to. I would suggest that you look into that, as it also has some interesting hooks you might want to look into as side quests...

What they said. :)

Below is my opinion on how you could incorporate this in. SPOILER WARNING

seeker of secrets + COT:

Seekers of Secrets states that in rare cases, a character can become a pathfinder and skip all the trials, etc. Its very rare. One example that could be done for this is COT would be to have the character help with the Lodge Situation in Westcrown. In addition, if your character is submitting journals via magic or otherwise about the going ons in westcrown (specific things, such as about shadowbeasts, etc) then they might take this under consideration. When you think they have done enough to warrant this, you can grant them access to the Prestige class.

If the Player actually takes time to write out all the journals, etc, you may even reward him by GIVING him a level in the prestige class he is wanting from Pathfinders.

Just my opinion :)
