Is it reasonable to kit out your Eidolon with magical goodies which it could use?
Obviously these goodies go with the Eidolon when unsummoned but when it pops back again it is fully equiped.
Obviously? Don't be too sure. The could just drop on the ground when your Eidolon discorporated.

Yea...I thought I was being a d!ck asking such a question but the more I thought about it the less stupid it seemed. It would save lugging a pile of stuff aroud for your favorite pet so that is why I ask.

I think the gear depends on the the eidolon. I mean there is such a massive variety there. But in general i would probably want to give it the fighter type staples. Amulate of Mighty fists for its natural attacks or a magic weapon if i go that rougt, Ring of protection, magic armor if i go the armor route, and maybe a strength boosting belt.

Exactly. It could prove difficult to suddenly have to outfit your pet if it dumps all the it you supplied whenever it went back into its bottle.

Zurai wrote:Eidolons function "as a summon spell", which means the gear stays with the Eidolon.Wait, you're saying that I can use Summon Monster I as a cheap version of Plane Shift that only works on items? That doesn't sound right.
Sure, you can send whatever gear you want to a random plane (you don't specify a plane to summon from with any of the conjuration [summoning] spells) in possession of a creature who's likely not to be too friendly to you if you ever find it again. And since you aren't guaranteed to ever summon that exact same creature again, what you've done is essentially destroyed whatever gear you gave the summoned creature.
The alternative is that a summoned creature's gear stays behind when it returns to its plane of origin, which makes summon spells an infinite gold engine.

My understanding was that a summoned creature's gear goes back with it, but anything you give it on this plane would stay behind. If it says otherwise in the rules, I stand corrected.

It doesn't state either in the rules. Actually, the text in the summoning subtype says that summoned objects stay put. That's presumably referring to an object that is the specific target of a conjuration [summoning] spell, but a summoned creature's gear is summoned, still.
