Your ideal home?

I was thinking of this just the other day. What kind of rooms/features/etc would your ideal home contain?

First off, my ideal home would have lots of stone work. I first saw that kind of house when I moved up to Philly, and I really like it.

- A tower, at least three stories.
- A big stone veranda, one that got plenty of sunshine.
- A library with a big oak desk and many comfy reading chairs.
- A second library for my comic collection, complete with really cool drawers built into the walls.
- A huge kitchen with an island in the center, marble counter tops, hard wood cabinets, and a massive sink.
- My own special brew room, complete with a stove, refrigerator (for lagers), a sterilizing equipment.
- A secret passage (with one end going to the main library).
- A multi-room basement.

Grand Lodge

You may need this, then

Or, less useful but interesting.

Are you getting us to do your job for you :)

I really liked the Dilbert Ultimate House (DUH) project by Scott Adams. It's no longer online, but there is some stuff on the wayback machine

Looks like it meets a lot of your specs. It even has a christmas tree closet. Just add secret passages...

I've always wanted a room in my basement that has torch sconces, faux moss covered stone walls, ad chains hanging from the walls. I would then put a big table in the middle og it and use that as my gaming room.

Naah, this is (mostly) just wishful thinking.

You want a great secret passage? Around here we have what is called the Parade of Homes. It is an event where contractors enter their newest, most unique houses they build for the purpose of shoing what is possible. One house I visited had a secret passage that led from the master bedroom to a hidden grotto behind the waterfall that was part of the swimming pool. Perfect for those late night trysts with nymphs that you dn't want the neighbors to know about.

Since you're asking...
I like the German Passive Homes, and I'd like mine to follow most of those concepts. I'd also like to have a greenhouse so I can have fresh vegetables year-round. Then, if that wasn't enough, I'd like to use Geothermal heat, a windmill, and solar panels.

Inside the home there would be a large office, with a table large enough for gaming as well as super high speed internet on three computers (with internal network as well).
There would be 4 bedrooms. The master suite would have one of those 2-person jacuzzi tubs (hey, I likes me creature comforts), and each of my boys would have their own room. That leaves one bedroom open for either guests or a toy room.
The kitchen would look like a restaurant kitchen. I'd have the stacked 2-stove thing you see in a lot of television shows, a 10-burner stove, and a prep area with a built-in, but removable, cutting board (small enough to fit in the dishwasher, but big enough for anything I could ever cook).
Then, of course, there would be a laundry room/pantry off of the kitchen, a large family room, a large living room, and a dining room that easily seats 16 (with custom oak table).
There would also be a small, partial basement large enough to hold as many guests as I can possibly have (around 30 people), that stays dry in the heaviest rains (mine currently does not).
Outside of that, a 2-car garage with workspace on one side so that I can keep the lawnmower and other tools handy.

If I get to add the other special feature I'd really like it would be a metalworking area, so that I can have lots of fun making fun things for my family and friends (and experimenting with making minis as well).

Too bad this home would be upwards of $500,000. Oh well, one can dream, can't one.

Oooh, my parents have one of those.

I'd love to have a teleport room so that I could visit anyone I wanted, instantly. Might be a while before those are invented though! :-)

No sharks?

That works well in the dungeon...

I could certainly use one of those... although I agree, we do need sharks with frickin' lasers attached to their heads.

I'd actually like a waterslide like they have at the Atlantis resorts, that passes through a tunnel that is inside a shark tank. After all thisis a DREAM house.

Scarab Sages

Not all of its a dream house....hopefully.

the hidden passageway website is awesome.. been drooling over some of those things for a long time. Definitely want a sliding bookcase or hidden staircase leading to my gaming room with an overhead projection system and custom gaming table.

The Exchange

I have always liked this. 20th century castles

Here you go Zombie. You can get a small castle, supposedly, for 250K-land not included. Some of the designs are really great if you ever hit the lottery or something.

an old manor house somewhere in cornwall or scotland would do,
with a huge library including wood paneling, bronze busts and leather armchairs

or a hobbit hole
