PF Age of Worms PbP

Gamer Connection

Okay, I am going to convert Age of Worms APP over to Pathfinder RPG, and I want to run it here.

I am looking for 4 to 6 1st level characters (depending on popularity), standard Pathfinder rules, 20 point buy, standard classes.

If you dont have access to a Pathfinder Core rulebook, you can find everything you will need in this PF srd.

I will be converting for the next 2 days, so the game will more than likely start mid next week.

Ehe selection process will be simple, first in first serve, I will be compiling the player's names into a list so that those who want to join can know how many players already have started.

I have never read this one but have been interested for a long time, love to be in.

If your running it in greyhawk fair warning I know nada of the setting

Don't worry about the setting, i will be setting it in Golarion, I want to convert this over to Pathfinder completelty, so Golarion will be a the world it is set in.

well that one I know a bit more about, not as much as some around here but enough.

I've never played in a PBP, but I have watched quite a few from the sidelines so I think I've got a decent hold on the pacing and etiquette. I'm not familiar with anything to do with this adventure path.. could you give a spoiler free overview when you get a chance? At this point I'm leaning towards playing a human sorcerer, maybe elemental (fire) bloodline, name Garen Dayle.

i will get to that as soon as i can, i need to read through it first. like i said, this should be ready about mid week, so there is a little time yet.

I've always wanted to play Age of Worms! Can I have a knife wielding duergar fighter? :D

Kobold Cleaver wrote:

I would have to say no to the Duergar, sorry, if you want to play the concept, but substitute Duergar to dwarf, that is fine.

Can I Call My Guy Drizzt? wrote:

To this I say, yes I can. Keep in mind that the AoW is still Paizo, and writing up a spoiler free overview won't be easy, as a lot of things, as with other Paizo APs, will add up later on. But I will try to describe what your chatracter will experience when you start in a nutshell.

Take my word for it though, I loved this AP as a player a few years age, it is Paizo and it is very well written.

Okay so pretty much the starting town is Oregent in the region of Andoran, self titled "The Birthplace of Freedom" (think state mottos on vehicle numberplates). the two best options for your characters are that you either live locally, and are just starting out in your adventuring career, or you are a budding adventurer, off on his/her first adventure.

Oregent's inhabitants are predominantly merchants, tradesmen or miners, serious folk who spend most of their time plying their trade or most of thier lives toiling underground. but Oregent holds plenty of opportunities for adventure, for the uplands surroundign the town are rife with the ancient tombs and burial cairns of long dead cultures.

okay, i hope this helps, this has taken me ages to convert already, and i have multiple Dungeon magazines to now convert.

If GM_Ekeebe is putting so much work into this then it must be fun!

Just a few questions:
Do we get 2 traits from the web enhancement or not?
What is the starting gold? (average for the class?)

Ok this is my (Countmein) character.

She is a Half-Elven Fighter. She is a very good archer, but not very good in melee. I want to take her into arcane archer when she reaches level 8.

Got to still do the description, but I'm only coming back later tonight and I don't want to miss a spot!

okay, yeah, you character seems sound, and yes you get 2 Traits.

The are foundhere.

for gold, take the average starting gold for yor class.

for all those who want in, i have a many spots left, so far we have:

1. Kieyanna Lodlin
2. open
3. open
4. open
5. open (depends on popularity)
6. open (depends on popluarity)

i want to have 4 to 6 PCs, if popularity isnt high enough, i may choose just to go with 4 PCs, so post in those concepts.

I'll throw my name in the ring. Would you allow a goblin rogue? If not, I'll go with something else.

preferably not Goblin, im trying to keep it to Pathfinder Core rulebook.

okay, to make it fair, those who threw their names in were.

seekerofshadowlight
Kobold Cleaver
Countmein ( Kieyanna Lodlin)
and
Nerak the Numb

there are still 2 spots, if in 48 hours (it being 1 AM here at the moment) there arent any more takers, i will close submissions.

sorry for being like that, but i need a definate number soon, that way i can adjust the encounters accordingly, if i convert everything, then i wil have to apply adjustments to the encounters on the fly, and i like being a structured DM.

[EDIT] oh and the OOC thread is here:

Age of Worms AP OOC thread.

I'd be interested in whipping up a character!

I'll take a spot. Will play a cleric of some variety.

okay, so it seem si have 5 players willing to create characters, and i have 1 PC ready to go:

seekerofshadowlight
Kobold Cleaver
Countmein (Kieyanna Lodlin)
Nerak the Numb
Hogarth
and
Zurai

the game is now full of players, but if you want to put your name down for backburner characters, just incase i need fillers, then please do so.

for those who have their name on the list (oh god, im starting to sound like a teacher...), just draw up a concept and create your character, i will be back in here regularly, so any queries are more than welcome.

now off to bed so i can get up bright and early, and start converting more AoW.

Alright, I'll be a gnome, then.
#1 KC Rule of Choosing a Race: If you can't get a monster race, go with a gnome or a dwarf. :D

I had posted early in the thread with my interest in playing a human sorcerer named Garen Dayle. Looks like it got filled up but I would like to be on the alternates list if someone doesn't come through or has to bow out for some reason or another. Thanks! I'll go ahead and get his stats and everything together in case.

I'd like to also throw my hat in the ring as an alternate please GM Ekebe. Only just saw this thread and wouldn't mind trying a paladin of Sarenrae.

Scarab Sages

I don't want to play the pbp; I just popped by since I'm running AoW in 3.5, with an eye to possibly converting over to PF, and wondered how far along you were (hoping to beg some conversions for chapter 5!).

To GM Peebo: have you got all the handouts and player info you need?
Not just the official Overload, but there's loads of other fan-made stuff, expanding on the official material, flagging problem areas, and improving the links between the chapters. I'd be happy to share, if you mail me (address on my default profile, rather than this sneaky DM alias).

And if we do switch systems, it'd be good to have a second head to brainstorm conversions.

This is all spoilered simply to save space, players can feel free to read it.

Appearance:
Spoiler:
Narses is a nondescript human, with short black hair and lightly tanned skin, like most Andorans who work for a living. Neither especially tall nor especially short, his only outstanding features are his unusually light grey eyes and the pale white birthmark on his right palm. His birthmark strongly resembles Pharasma's holy symbol; it spirals wobbily from the center of his palm, broadening slightly as it goes.

Personality:
Spoiler:
Narses is quiet and confident in his powers and in his faith. He does not proselytise or preach to those of other faiths, preferring instead to let his actions speak for him. He worships Pharasma in both Her aspects -- Life and Death -- but realizes that worship of Pharasma as the ender of life isn't widely appreciated and rarely mentions it.

In personal matters, Narses is more expressive and open. He is easy-going, if not completely carefree, and rarely carries any grudges. He tends to look for the best in people, but does not allow that to blind him to their faults. Once he makes a true friend, he does his best to remain loyal to them.

Narses is stoic and fearless in combat, risking death to save companions in need, although he is not an especially astute tactician nor a quick study with weapons. He prefers to support his allies with magic and relies on his longspear and melee combat in general only as a last resort.

Quotations:
Spoiler:
"Do not fear Death, for the Lady of Graves only takes those whose time has come."
"Your existence is an abomination, foulspawn! Return to the earth where you were buried!"
"Well, now all that is over with, let's say we head back to town and have a nice stout drink?"

Background:
Spoiler:
Born to a family of small farmers in the Arthfell region of Andoran, Narses's birthmark was apparent even at his birth, and the Pharasmite midwife who delivered him recognized it as a sign of the Lady's favor. She convinced Narses's family to apprentice him to the church, and he grew up as a ward of Pharasma. Pharasma's church isn't the somber mausoleum that most of the un-initiated fear; her priests also number midwives and doctors, after all. His childhood was no worse in this regard than any other's.

Narses took to Pharasma's teachings like a duck to water. By the time he was 13 years old, he had met all of the scholastic requirements to be initiated into Her clergy, although he was not allowed to perform the other tests until he reached the age of 16. By the time he was 20, Narses was admitted as an official member of Pharasma's clergy and sent to Oregent to serve in that town's small church.

im hoping to have the next 3 done today.

oh and Zurai, that looks fine, just create a new alias and transcribe eerything to that.

For my home campaign I've used Google Sites (sites.google.com) to keep in-character after-session journals, dm writeups, and they have a file vault type setup that's great for handouts. Might be worth looking at. It's got 100mb of free storage and the page creation tools are really user friendly.

Feats: Weapon Finesse
Skills: Acrobatics +9 (+17 jump) [1 rank], Survival +5 [1 rank]

Background:

Spoiler:
Treetall/Thorin was born into a family of miners, but tunneling through rock and stone never interested him. There was only one great love in his life: cats. The miners' barracks where his family lived became full of cats, cats and more cats; Thorin's kind heart refused to let a poor kitten or stray suffer. A few cats are good for keeping the mouse population down, but after a while it became a serious bone of contention in his clan. Upon reaching adulthood, he moved out of the barracks (by mutual agreement) and settled down with a grove of druids who understood his love of animals and he changed his name. Now he loves to explore nature with his faithful mountain lion cub, Blackrazor.

Description:

Spoiler:
Treetall is a hearty, vigorous dwarf in the prime of life. However, his appearance is slightly bizarre -- the hair on his chin and scalp is chopped quite short, giving it a furry appearance, and his mustaches are waxed into several sharp points in imitation of a cat's whiskers.

He's a jovial, kind-hearted chap, but when the weak or defenseless are threatened, he is liable to fly into a rage.

I'll create a profile when I get home.

The Exchange

I've seen that a couple of players who posted here were added to the list of players, but then later posted that they didn't want to participate.

I'd definitely be interested in playing, if there are still not any spots left I'd like to be added to the backup list.

If allowed in, I would play Sidskegg Alequaffer, a neutral Dwarven Barbarian with a penchant for alchohol-induced fits of rage, who is otherwise very boastful and lighthearted outside of battle and the tavern. Let me know if you end up having room.

The Exchange

Here's the basic idea for the character I've been kicking around for some time, which I would play in this game if there ends up being room.

A little bit of it is blank, pending what kind of game I end up using him in.

Spoiler:
Sidskegg Alequaffer
Neutral
Dwarf
Barbarian 1

STR 16 (10)
CON 19 (13, +2 race)
DEX 14 (5)
INT 8 (-2)
WIS 10 (-2, +2 race)
CHA 7 (-4)

Hit Points: 17 (12 + 4 con, +1 favored class))
AC 17 (+5 Scale mail, +2 Dex) Touch: 12, Flat 15
Initiative +2
BAB: +1
CMB: +4 (+1 BAB, +3 STR)
CMD: 16 (20 vs trip/bullrush) (+1 BAB, +3 STR, +2 Dex, +4 racial)
Speed 30ft (+10 Fast Movement)
Saves: Fort +6(+4 Con, +2 Base), Reflex +2, Will +0

Feats:

Traits:

Racial/Class:
Darkvision 60'
Stonecutting
Rage (8 rounds/day)

Skills:
Intimidate +2 (-2 cha, +1 rank, +3 class skill)
Perception +4 (0 wis, +1 rank, +3 class skill)
Craft (Weapons) +3 (-1 int, +1 rank, +3 class skill)

Starting Equipment (105gp budget):

Weapons:
Greataxe +4, 1d12 + 3 damage
Hammer, Light (3) +3, 1d4 + 3 damage

Armor:
Scale Mail +5 AC, -4 check penalty

Background:
Sidskegg was born to a long line of Dwarf weaponsmiths. His family take their business very seriously (like many Dwarves) and always expected their heirs to continue the tradition. Sidskegg alone, amongst 1 sister and 2 brothers, never showed much aptitude for the trade. He was frustrated, both because he lacked the natural talent his family posessed, and because he frequently made mistakes that ended in him losing his patience and (usually) destroying the work in progress.

He eventually gave up his family trade, and in the last year or so has taken on odd jobs doing different types of manual labor and mercentary work. He's now got enough experience in combat under his belt that he wants to set out for the adventurers lifestyle. He now spends much of his time in taverns and markets, his ear ever open for chances to up and away with a group of adventurers.

Okay, I'm almost ready to post up the PbP thread, but I need Nerak the Numb's character, if you are there, Nerak, then please draw up a character, then we can get started.

If you don't want to play, or you are having troubles, then please let me know, and I'll help as much as I can.

[EDIT] this post will be posted in the OOC thread as well [EDIT]

Good luck with finding a place, then. To be honest, we kinda need a melee tank, since our two fighters are both using bows. :D

I'd be willing to play a paladin of Iomedae, too, if that would fit the charter and there were room. I'm generally pretty flexible, I'd be willing to alter the barbarian to be more of a meat shield even. It's all moot if all of the spots are filled though.

Dwarf Barbarians with 19 con tend to do pretty well as meat shields and melee tanks without even trying :p

Well, I mean....I could use a shield? :p

Maybe take toughness and start with 20hp.

In all seriousness, my point is that I'm pretty much willing to play any class. I prefer to play a Dwarf, but otherwise I'm totally willing to fill whatever roll the group needs, if I can just get into the game.

Okay, I'm going to give it 12 more hours, if Nerak the Numb hasn't posted a character by then, I will choose a replacement player out of those that i see would benefit the party the most.

just a querstion though, w0nkothesane, is the Dwarf Barbarian what you wish to play if you were to play?

To be honest, I'm more keen on playing than what I specifically end up playing. I normally DM for games IRL, and rarely get to play as a PC. I've got a half dozen character ideas that are at least partially fleshed out right now, including the Dwarf Barbarian.

I try to keep a wide variety of concepts in my mind so the instant a game opens up, I can grab whichever one meshes best with the campaign and the rest of the party and then all that's left is to build the character mechanically.

So the short answer is, yes, the Dwarf Barbarian is the idea that I would most like to play.

Spoiler:
Other concepts I've got floating around are a halfling TWF ranger, a half-elf Elemental bloodline sorcerer, a Dwarf Paladin of either Torag or Iomedae, a half-elf sorcerer/fighter/arcane archer...the list goes on.

I vote for w0nko!

If you do end up playing, taking melee would seriously help out the party. It's not so much the HP that is the concern. If you play a dwarf barbarian you are bound to start with at least 15HP already. We mostly need somebody to keep the baddies away from us for a round at least.

I think Nerak has been given enough time already.

Wow! Sorry, I've been tied up with work and haven't had time to post a PC (though was planning on doing that later today). My apologies for delaying and I will gladly bow out to make way for someone else. Thanks for considering me for the game.

Thank you Nerak the Numb for getting back to me, unfortunately, i will go with W0nkothe sane, as he has a character ready now. thank you for applying for a spot.

okay, w0nkothesane, you're in, dont forget about The OOC Thread .

now i will review each persons characters and get to posting the game thread.

any quick changes you want to do, i suggest you do them now.

Quick question, are we going to use traits, if so, what's allowed?

okay for traits, please use These
