Intimidate on Animals?

Can the normal use of Intimidate (not the Demoralize thing) be used on animals to make them friendly?

"Action: Using Intimidate to change an opponent's attitude requires 1 minute of conversation. "

No conversation, no change of attitude. Speak w/ Animals might work, though.

This is RAW. Still, I'd allow it for normal animals...especially smartish ones...as a houserule.

Animals in D&D *rarely* act like animals in the real world. Wolves and octopi and such don't generally go around trying to kill heavily armed humans (or what have you) for the hell of it. They have to be pretty hungry or backed into a corner. Or mind-controlled by a vampire lord...

Your DM might allow it in some situations.
