TROY McCLURE |

Hi there, im troy mcclure. you might remember me from my more famous movies like "when zombies arise", "zombies after breakfast", and the award winning "i cannot believe its not ZOMBIES!". i am delivering this important message because i like this idea and im under contract.
For the month of october, to celebrate the spooky month, i am hosting a zombie-riffic RPG PbP here on the board. This is based off of the remake "DAWN OF THE DEAD", the one with the survivors staying in the mall and fighting off the zombie infestation taking over the world.
what i need from you is simple. make up a character loosely based off of yourself. height, weight, body description must be detailed very well, down to what exactly you were wearing at the start of the zombie uprising.
here is the tricky part, what you know and can do. sure, there is a plethora of RPG's that are set in the modern age and get rules for listing your skills and areas of expertise. i am trying to get away from that and do this free form, because from personal experience i have learned it is next to impossible to list everything you know how to do. so keep it broad on the character, but be ready to explain your answer when called upon (ie you claim that you know carpentry. the problem: how would you reinforce the doublewide door to keep them from opening from outside forces yet easy enough for you to pop open in an emergency?)
so, if your up for this, throw up a post. im not limiting the number of people who can get in on this, but i am saying that the first 12 people (or sunday night, whichever comes first) will be the group that safely made it inside the mall. Others will have to RP there way through the horde and into the mall....

TROY McCLURE |

WOW! that is exactly what im looking for. now just make a new avatar and name him and your good to go....
side note... im not using any base rules for character creation, and im goiing to make it real basic when it comes to combat. baseline is 50/50, either you know it, or you dont. but either way, you can still make the attempt.
for example...
Captain obvious has never been in a fight his entire life. but suddenly hes facing a zombie that wants to rip his head off. he tries to kick the thing in the chest to knock to the ground. id have him roll a d20, 11 up he kicks him down. 10 or less, he misses (roll a 1, obvious fumble, bad juju).
general observation is a 5th degree black belt. she has been doing it since she was 5. with the increase in knowledge that comes with the skill, ill say that she has a 80% chance to hit the zombie in the chest. so as long as she rolls above a 4, she is good to go.
same thing can be applied to all other actions.

Mike W |

And if we feel totally inept at something can we go less than 50% I am just that bad at throwing :) no idea why
I have updated my skills on my profile, and added a fear that is sad but true :( and totally appropriate
I also went with the assumption that 80% was a master like in your example.
Do we have any equipment, or is that going to be part of it collecting it in the mall? or just normal stuff that you would have at the mall (car keys, pocket knife, money, etc..)

TROY McCLURE |

well think about how it begins in the movie. the hot blonde chick had to haul ass out of her house barefoot and only had her car keys. so think of your daily routine and pick a spot where you are suddenly face to face with your first encounter with zombies. it could be while your out getting groceries, getting gas, taking a jog...anything.
and the only way ill allow a person to have a firearm on them is either A) he is a mountain man that came out of the hills to trade in his furs for gold.
b) a cop/military. (youd have to prove it.)

Mike W |

ok i will post here then. I actually have my son's t-ball aluminum bat in my trunk, since i usually take him to practice, and just havent removed it. Its right around 3 feet long. I spend alot of time in my car going to and from work so that is where i would be. So that would make me have my lunch box (ham sandwich, apple, water bottle), car keys, wallet (cc, under $5 in cash), a cell phone (no camera or texting), a small old timer pocket knife (3 blades), the cloths on my back, 1 tinkerbell rear view mirror ornament, and whatever is in the trunk. Currently there is the little kids bat, little kids baseball helmet, little kid baseball glove, a folding chair, flash light, small shovel, 1 gallon bag of kitty litter, a blanket, and 1 liter of oil (10w/30). I also have my workout backpack that I use daily to run at work. All it has is white t-shirt, shorts, extra socks, extra pair of running shoes, a towel, and my sunglasses in it.
Is that cool? And we will say I am stopped at a local food/gas store getting gas, it is inbetween my house and work.
The shovel and kitty litter is for when i get stuck in the snow. Has only happened, once and man was it handy.

mr. j, what do you have equipment wise? see above if you have any questions.
remember too gents that there are skills out there instead of carpentry, ie welding, mechanic, machinist, plumbing, architect, game designer, computer repair guy, aerospace engineer... you see what im saying? dont just limit yourself to carpentry. if you dont know carpentry, ok, but be sure to mention skill set a, b, c and so on.
so the count is up to three. im gonna start the thread for the campaign and have everyone who posts on this to introduce their character by explaining what they were doing when the zombie threat increased....

kyrt-ryder |
You know... I probably shouldn't be committing my time to this... but why not.
Before I fill this out, I am curious, roughly what kind of physical vulnerabilities do these zombies have? Are they the kind that need to have their brains blown out/head cut off to die? Or would the afforementioned kick to the chest actually do something meaningful?

TROY McCLURE |

oh god no! these guys are impervious to all modern weapons!! you will need swords, axes, bows and arrows, crossbows, faith in a patron diety and a change of armor to combat these zombies...
lmfao!! nah, just messing. this who idea is based off of "DAWN OF THE DEAD". the remake, not the original, lots of shotguns blowing limbs and heads off.
that said, you have to be honest about what you have on your person. a handgun cuz you have a carriers permit ill buy, but "i always have my 12 guage shotgun in my trunk at all times cuz of X reason" isnt a viable option.
so come up with a doppleganger of yourself, write out what is in your vehicle as of this moment, and then go to the PBP link and fill out how your guy reacts...

Well, I've finally got this finished, posting it here and about to join the RP. Again, sorry there's so much crap in it.
Oh, right, one thing I didn't include that perhaps I should have. I tend to be freakishly stealthy for my size, I guess it comes from bow deer hunting.
Lucian-Sunaka
Male
6'4
Age 20
250 lbs
very muscular build
current job: Fiction Author, Game Designer, Wanna-be woodsguide (Not a real job I know, but I've made such a lifestyle out of it I felt it should be included, its not like those skills belong in the skill section for a city RP)
fears: losing people close to me, falling in love again, homosexual advances (COMPLETELY unrelated to the falling in love fear lmao, had to clarify that, I hadn't specified before and after I saved it and looked and was like... that doesn't look right lol)
Description:
Deep Blue Eyes, Light Brown hair, strawberry-cream reddish-whitish skintone, very muscular and powerfully built, with broad shoulders and a thick chest. Facial stubble as well.
Wearing a T-shirt and thick but flexible leather biker jacket, with black jeans made to be more flexible/athletic than normal, comperable to sweats. (Thank you grandma lol)
skills:
language (English only)
drive (car, bicycle, motorcycle)- enterring play with a motorcyle
Combat Skills:
Unarmed- ju-jitsu (Japanese and Brazilian styles), judo, muay thai, Tae Kwan Doe, Kung Fu, Street Wrestling, Boxing
Armed Melee- Staff, Small Blades, Medium Blades (including the Machette and hand-axe I carry with me at all times, handy when you live in the woods), cudgel (such as stout sticks and pipes, etc), nunchucks(yes, I hit my head more than once learning, but it's entertaining showing off to friends now that I've masterred them), Biker Chain, Polearm.
Ranged: Knives, Spherical (baseball pitching for the win! xD), longbow, crossbow, rifle, weighted rope (not sure what else to call this, I spent maybe a year or two doing my best to learn how to use a meteor hammer, never completely masterred it in terms of manipulating the rope etc all, but I did manage to learn how to trip like a mo-fo, and pull a few other useful tricks off with it.)
Other Skills:
Bowyer/Fletcher/ Improvisational Weaponsmith- yes, I know how to craft my own bows and crossbows and arrows and bolts, given the propper tools, and can typically put one together in about 3 hours without distractions (though the best bows, the ones that are freshly cut from uncut limbs typically take a day to dry out before they are ready for use). I can also turn just about anything into a weapon if I need to, how well it performs depends on what the item is.
athletics - I'm a little slow off the start, given my size, but I've got alot of muscle and long enough legs that once I get going I can keep up with most of the 'fast kids' And unlike alot of them, I've got endurence that lasts forever, probably partly due to my obsessive combat training. Additionally I can climb/swim/etc very proficiently. I'm not the most acrobatic combatant, but more agile than people expect from my size.
Weaknesses - My biggest weakness would have to be a stupid sense of chivalry, if I see a girl in trouble, I'm there to help no matter the odds. (And one time it got me beat up pretty badly too, 8 on 1 are not pleasant odds, waking up in the hospital is not fun, even if I did manage to handle the situation before passing out, never once got thanks for it.) I'd do it again in a heartbeat too, even with worse odds. Yes, I am stupid lol.
Equipment: Alright, here's the fun part. Yes, I have been pulled over before with this exact gear, no, it was not fun explaining it all.
Harley Davidson Motorcycle, large seat compartment, nearly full tank, with a pair of special slots just behind where I sit to store my staff and my bow, and a spot for looping my two quivers next to them.
Longbow- english longbow, home made, 160 lbs pull, accurate up to 120 yards.
Arrows- two quivers of 20 arrows each.
Blades- a pair of bowie knives strapped to my belt, a machette that straps over my back when not attached to the bike, a hand axe, 12 long throwing knives (9 inches total length) hidden around my body.)
Quarterstaff: 7 feet long, 2.5 inch thick Hickory, with the foot on each end capped in steel ferrules.
Steel Bike Chain: 4 feet long, thick links.
Flint and Steel
50 foot coil of rope.
Set of auto-repair tools
Packed Lunch
Pathfinder Core Rules, and a bunch of notebooks containing stuff I'm working on for a compatible product.
In terms of proficiency.. since you said the chick who'd been doing martial arts with average focus since she was 5 got an 80%, I'd guess that the bulk of my skills would come in at 85%, maybe 90% if my obsessive dedication to them applies. The exceptions are below.
Spherical (I don't know why the hell I included this, more comedy than anything I guess, and maybe a bit of a nod to the super hero Bullseye, but anyway, yeah, maybe somewhere around 60%? Since you said no training was 50)
Weighted rope (I got pretty good with it, but hardly the level of mastery I have in my other capabilities. 70% maybe?)
Bowyer/fletcher: These I am good at, but as I said I need time undistracted. If I actually had to roll for them, I'd place them around 70% as well, though realistically that would only be if I were rushing or whatnot.
PHEW, that was a ton, and yet, I'm still sure I'm missing a thing or two that would be in my bike's seat compartment. Basically if it's something a woodsman/biker should have, I would probably have it, maybe if the need and inspiration arises the GM could cut me a little slack? lol.
Just want to appologize for cramming so much stuff into this bio, you asked for a representation of us, so here it is. I grew up, from about 4 years old, obsessed with martial arts and combat and trained obsessively in them, so here I am.

Lucian-Sunaka |

Of course your welcome in, the GM said he's willing to take as many people as want in, and so far there are only 4 people.
It's unfortunate he's dissappeared for the moment, but by all means, read this thread, make a bio, and then read the RP thread and make a post. Would be nice to have somebody to interact with until Troy shows up.

Looks good to me bud. If something in it isn't right Troy can tell you so and have you adjust the info in your profile.
Here's hoping we can get things rolling lol, it's been unfortunate that the game's been as slow as it has been.
Oh, and make sure you read what's happened so far so you know what's going on before you make your entry :)
