This revelation has amused me to no end this morning. I was chatting with a fellow over on another forum and came to the realization that a high level Paladin who had Catch Off-Guard and likely Improvised Weapon Mastery could create a +5 Holy Speed formerly-demonic-washboard and proceed to bash fiends with it. It brought me to a whole new understanding of "A Paladin in Hell."
Catch Off-Guard is quickly becoming one of my favorite feats and I thank the development crew for keeping it in the final game. The amount of levity inherent in the uses of this feat seems to unmatched.

I understand the +5 holy spatchula. How's he giving it speed?

The same way he gave it +5 holy: weapon spirit.
Hmm for some reason I was thinking you could only have the weapon spirit in a weapon that was your Diety's preferred weapon. Is that something that has changed since Beta or am I just having a brain fart?
Halfling chucks.. like gopher chucks from Kung Pow, enter the cow baby.

actually the main +4 comes from Greater Magic weapon, which is then increased to +5 with spirte weapon. The remaning +5 is split between Holy and Speed special abilities.
You form a special bind with your god at 5th, one that let's you call a celestial spirit to inhabit your 'weapon' or in the form of a horse. No special requirements limit the weapon to the gods weapon. Considering a Paladin can use all martial weapons why should it be limited to the gods weapon?
There is room for a bit of GM oversight by allowing the god to deny the paladins call of it's servernt but you would need some good justification.
Oh, and you must be a full Paladin to but the full force of you god behind this. No mulitclassing.
