Spoiler:
I was thinking the chair they discover aint a download device for all possible knowledge of the Ancients...I thought it might be a pilot seat. The distance between two points is change in possibility and only life can create change in Possibility so it must be able to resolve change. Basically where the ship took forever to get out there (rather it is displaced by continuous change in possibility)...A pilot capable of resolving the change in possibility would be able to bring the ship home in a single jump.

Some thoughts.

Spoiler:
  • Chloe will be the new Jackson. Her mind meld with the aliens has given her insight into the alien civilizations they will run into and her studying of Jackson's work will aid as well. This means we will not be able to get rid of her unless there is a contract dispute like what happened with Michael Shanks, except she won't get the kind of support he got (because nobody likes her character). Her smartest move, take whatever the network wants to give her and don't make waves.
  • Captain America, Chloe (or as we have taken to calling her, the Load), and Eli had to be separated from the rest of the crew. The reason is because the crew is going to be captured by the aliens. These three will show up and rescue them, Eli will hack their tech, the Load will be able to decipher their info, and Cap will fly the broken down ship.

He's been exibiting paranoia since day one. And the military guys are likely to back him up...The next time one of the military guys asked me to flip a switch and let them in the airlock...I'd say no.

    Two thoughts

    Spoiler:
#1. Isn't it convenient that the ship's FTL drive failed while still in range of the last Stargate that Mr. Fantastic, Captain America, and Chloe went to?

#2: While it seems that Franklin ascended I think it would be more cool if he were somehow absorbed into the ship's operating system, thus giving them a way to access Destiny's controls.

The gate thing doesn't bother me. We know it 'only' takes 34 gates to cross from Pegasus to the Milky Way, and we don't know how far the two galaxies destiny is travelling to/from are apart. We also know that Destiny moves slower than the Human/Asgard ships.

I don't think he ascended, or rather I don't think he ascended completely. I think he's going to be 'haunting' the ships systems for some time.

    My two pet peeves:

    Spoiler:
  • The scientist in the wheelchair. WTF? I mean the SGC has had Go'uld tech, and now Ancient and Asgard tech for some time now (they have the complete Asgard database) Given that the 9 chevron address was in Atlantis' databanks, and that they had the Asgard tech prior to that, spinal injuries should be a thing of the past. (We know that tech is being leaked to civilian contractors, and if nothing else, her knowlege/abilities would make it essential to fix her spine, even if the tech wasn't available for public use.)

  • Ack! Soft rock music montage again! Just say 3 weeks later and get on with it.

Actually, given what they've established about the range of the type of gates used in the show, it is indeed quite a stretch that they were still in range of the gate. It should have taken days to get everything arranged to have that scientist on board, and they established that Destiny is way out of range (as in needed multiple hops) in that space of time. Plus intergalactic distances are *big* :)

There almost had to be some sort of intervention going on. That they would arrive at just the right planet two days before Destiny's FTL drive malfunctioned is something that seems highly unlikely to have happened by chance. That and to have the failing module be the one that was dragging all the others down make the possibility of coincidence even more unlikely.

To think they pushed Rendevous with Rama for this...

The Exchange Contributor, RPG Superstar 2008 Top 6

    Spoiler:

No coincidence involved in the faulty drive failing. The drive system was sabotaged, and as said in the show, the weakest link failed. It's a bit of a song-and-dance to say that the system functions better without the bad component, but it's not strange coincidence.

As far as the trio being in range...I still think there's no change that after several days traveling past the rim, they'd be in range. We were fairly clearly shown that their last stop was on the trailing edge of the galaxy. That happenstance pretty well broke my suspension of disbelief for the episode.

Better to have just let them barely make it last episode than to pull off a BS save like that.

Or if the ships ahead even have working gates. After all their mission was to plant gates on planets so that the Ancients who would eventually inhabit Destiny could explore them. The preceding ships were true drones where as the Destiny was intended to be inhabited but was then launched without a crew instead.

    The Exchange

Well I'd say they all had gates on board - it seems standard tech to allow them to maintain a constant check on ops. The ships would be increasingly primitive...unless they waited until they knew all and then sent them one at a time. THen they would be standard. If Destiny was in bad nick - how bad is the one they sent the day before?

Maybe but it would be awesome if they attempted to send RUSH back to Earth for prosecution and made the error of sending him Forward to the next ship with a gate. All alone to fend for himself on a Ship worse off than the last.

The ycould name the new series: STARGATE:RUSH and set it a style like 24 where every episode is as hour and everything happens in a week as he fights for survival.

And when they come through the gate, can Chloe be convienently standing in front of it?. The actress is eye candy, but I HATE the character.

I know I'm in the minority here- but I don't hate chloe.
I don't like her either though.

She reminds me alot of Troi on Star Trek when it first started up. It took them a season or two to work out just exactly how they would treat her and for her to come into her own personality.. but once she did- it worked out fine.

I keep hoping they do that with Chloe.

Either that.. or.. yeah, as ya said.
have her standing too close to the backlash of the gate.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

I'm not sure you're supposed to like Chloe.

She's there by even more of an accident than anybody else. She doesn't start out with much in the way of skills, and she's the POV character to indicate that normal civilians in that kind of a situation ought to be terrified.

And she's toying with Eli's friendship while shagging Lt. Scott. So, what's there to like?

Well, she's developing. This show is written to go on for years, and we're seeing the first hints at character development. (At first, Young was reluctant to lead these people. He's falling into that responsibility. And we haven't left Telford, by a long shot.)

Chloe's not going to end up being The Smart One. We already have Rush and Eli to carry the "smart guy" conversations. But she might end up being The Magic One. And, spurred on by the tick episode, she might end up earning our respect as her father's daughter.

    Selgard wrote:

    *twitch*

Troi worked fine? Really? You must have been watching a different show then the one I saw. Troi had two modes:
    (1) State the total obvious. e.g. A ship is firing on the enterprise, "I feel hostile emotions from them captain."
    or
    (2) Her powers are getting screwed with or she is getting mind-attacked and her response is, "I have to quit Starfleet because my mental powers can't be depended upon."

Anybody remember the situation where Data saves the cryo-people and there are attacks on the Romulan border (I think they were suppose to be borg incursions or something) and the Federation thought it was the Romulans and the Romulans thought it was the Federation, and who figures out that the Romulans are just as clueless as the Federation about the attacks? The person with the freaken mental powers? No, a businessman from the 20th century. Wesley was annoying as all hell, but Troi was just utterly useless.

I think Chloe is going to be the "face" of the crew. I mean the daughter of a senator should have picked up some amount of diplomacy just by osmosis and with her burgeoning understanding of the alien race it just seems like a plausible, logical next step.
Of course I too wouldnt mind it if she was vaporized when the gate opens again.

Troi worked because she did eventually come into those two roles.

And once that was established- it is what she was.
You were never wondering "well what's she there for" which is really the conversation we're having about Chloe.

The hate about her aside- the real question is.. whats the useless chick gonna end up being? Will she ever find some use? Ever? Because right now all she does is consume precious oxygen.

Season Finale part one opened some new story options. I sat in on the Syfy chat and some other tidbits came to light.

    Spoiler:

  • Well now we have Telford and Young and Rush on the ship. It will be nice to see how Telford/Greer works out.
  • The Lucien Alliance is on board, and they brought supplies (including a lack of energy weapons. I assume the writers want finite ammo to be an issue)
  • Good news: Chloe got shot! Bad news: It was a leg wound, and it looks like she'll live.
  • Rant: Can we get some Atlantis cast please? Not to mention "We can't beam him out, the base has shielding." If only you could oh, I don't know, send in a small cloaked ship capable of carrying an assault squad...
  • Rant 2: "We still have two 303s that are out of range." "We can't wait for them, go!" Um... you have beaming technology Sam, at least you can beam the pilots out...
  • season 2 spoilers

    Spoiler:
We'll see more Aliens for season 2, including more CG aliens. We'll see more on the Lucien Alliance (duh). The dynamic with Rush, Telford, Camile, and now the Lucien Alliance commander might get crowded.

    Things I liked:

    Spoiler:
Eli's comment about the moniter room being his quarters.
The fact that Eli and Chloe ended up in an unexplored portion of the ship.
A new dynamic for the ship and the show.
The mystery of why the ship hasn't jumped yet.
Telford is really not an ass but Young is.

    Things I did not like:

    Spoiler:
Jack questioning Young's decisions on the ground.
The fact that nobody ever stopped to think that travel through the gate would disrupt the stones when a hyperspace jump does.
    Rush becoming a bloodthirsty individual.

I really wish this show wasn't following the "science fiction playbook" so closely. I am waiting for some real story to emerge, not the same stuff redone with new characters, on a new "stage."

    That aside:

    Mathew, about the 303s:
The pilots weren't out of the shielding/interference zone yet. Quite possibly, not even to their ships yet. I got the impression that the entire planet had some "shielding" or there would have been some discussion about beaming to an area outside the shield.

David, about the mystery you liked:
The ship hasn't jumped for the same reason the Alliance man was disintegrated, I believe. It is the work of the scientist - Franklin I think - becoming "one with the ship." He is capable of exerting some control over the ship now.

    Predictions:
    Telford dies.
Ely finds something in the new section of the ship that saves the day (Wesley Crusher syndrome).
Chloe lives, just to spite fans.
Power levels are too low to continue the jump to the next galaxy - until some "riddle" is solved.
They will only have enough energy to jump to the next galaxy so they can't reverse course.
Something will happen, probably a power struggle between the three factions, that will keep them from recharging and returning towards Earth.

I so very much hope I am wrong.

    The Exchange

    Spoiler:

    • Well now we have Telford and Young and Rush on the ship. It will be nice to see how Telford/Greer works out.

They hate each other...only a stupid writer will kill one or the other in some sort of face-off. These two will wind up in some weird -

"Everyone else is safe?" Greer was down to almost nothing in the way of Ammo.
"Yeah!" Telford is carrying a small nuke on his shoulder. "How many Rounds you Got left?"
In the distance Alien Troop Transports are on their Landing Cycles.
"Not enough." Greer has reduced himself to single round kills. The Blue Aliens begin to close in from all directions.
"Ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!" Greer and Telford laugh as Telford flips the trigger on the Nuke resting on his shoulder...

    • The Lucien Alliance is on board, and they brought supplies (including a lack of energy weapons. I assume the writers want finite ammo to be an issue) Well - they are one Stargate expedition away from being left on a planet.

So this crew is going to become a more interstellar effort?

    • Good news: Chloe got shot! Bad news: It was a leg wound, and it looks like she'll live.

She's a breeder...no way in hell the mother & Warlord of the Human Empire of Galaxy 10 is gonna die. All her Male Concubines will lay down their lives first way before she dies. I'm expecting Chloe and Her Eli to stumble across blue Aliens/Something Awesome as they make their way back through the ship on foot.

    • Rant: Can we get some Atlantis cast please? Not to mention "We can't beam him out, the base has shielding." If only you could oh, I don't know, send in a small cloaked ship capable of carrying an assault squad...

Shes Hot? Oh right...she is in charge of Atlantis? Must be Season 5.

    • Rant 2: "We still have two 303s that are out of range." "We can't wait for them, go!" Um... you have beaming technology Sam, at least you can beam the pilots out...

303 Had/have Hyperspace motors...you remember the Original Test where the SGU uses the 303 Prototype to jump the Asteroid through the earth? Al they need to do is engage Hyperdrive.

But I believed you were killing a prisoner to obtain information, and according to my oath, I could neither to assist you, nor stand by and watch you commit a murder. You do not need to explain every order, sir. But every time I see you appear to commit a court martial offense, I will ask you to explain yourself.

As much as this show has grown on me, even though every other episode is a groaner, the season finale is an hour of my life I want back.

Who will live? Who will die? Does it really take a two part episode just to create cliffhangers and hype for the next season?

An interesting story could have been started and ended in an interesting way that has one looking forward to where it will go from here. Instead it is television at its worst.

I hold out hope that the next season can recover because I want to like it, I'll just quickly try to forget about the end of this one and desperately avoid giving it the satisfaction of caring who lives or dies or comes back for season 2.

So what you really wanted was a SGU done in the style of 24? In this case Where the entire Season happens in a 2 day window or the Series Story Happens in a single Week?

I could have gone with that. Hour 1:

They hurry onto the Ship through the Stargate...
    "Check the Injured!"
    "Get clear of the gate..."
"RUSH!! What have you done to us?"
"I Just Saved all our Lives!"

AIR could have lasted half the Season and they could have ended the series with anything from RUSH left abandoned by Colonel Paranoid (lets chalk that kill up as another sucess) to The Abduction of Chloe by Blue Aliens as a Series Cliffhanger.

They could have bought Chloe back in the New SG: WARLORD series with Chloe defrosted by her Alien Abductors to become Warlord of GALAXY 10.

    My thoughts...

    Spoiler:
  • As much as I like the NE Kiva, I think she has to die. Rush/Young/Wray(and now Telford?) is convoluted enough. Her second in Command might be more reasonable.

  • Away missions become more interesting. A balance of SGC and Lucien personell would go on every mission, but the 'will you screw me over' tension will get worse. After all, you can't iris this gate.

  • Conflict with the SGC. Jack will not be happy at an alliance wih the Lucien Alliance. Likewise, the LA members will be envious of the SGC people being able to communicate with the home base (I'll be upset if the LA 'just happen' to have communication stones.)

  • As much as we wish, Chloe won't die. Hopefully the writers will make her interesting. (I want to slap her every time she calls Ely 'a good friend'. It comes across as "you're a nice guy, but Captain America is so hot...")

Lt. Johansen leaned over the injured body of her assistant medic Varon. Around her the other victims of her revenge.
"You cut my baby out of me." The Scalpel had nicked a vital artery and he was bleeding out.
"Your child was dead...I did it to save you..."A second artery was cut through. "Please stop..." His bloody hand went to her cheek and then dropped to the ground. He was gone.

Samantha Carter discovers Ancient Shipyards on the Surface of the Sun:
The odd blot on the Sun's Surface drew her attention. These were the coordinates Doctor Rush had provided her.
"What am I looking at here?" As they drew closer she could see it - A vast framework housed a dozen unfinished Destiny Class ships.
"Oh my god! Its the Shipyards of the Ancients!"

    Dynamics are getting interesting.

    Spoiler:
    • The Lucien Alliance plothook is getting slowly resolved, need more of red-headed-tech-girl though.
    • I hope they leave the Johansen/Telford baby issue unresolved. Though I'd think they'd have to do major surgery and notice a mising infant.
    • I don't think we've seen the last of Telford. (Though those aliens looked suspiciously like proto-asgard to me)
    • Rush is back to being magnificent bastard. I don't know if his halucinations are his halucinations or ship/ancient influence.
    • After the season finale chat on the page, I have even more respect for Alaina Huffman
    • Eli's mom now knows where he is. Pet Peeve, there's no Asgard/Atlantis tech that would allow them to treat HIV they couldn't introduce...
    • Eli's concerns of them blowing up the stargate with a bit of C4 was good. I mean the viewers know that they can survive a small nuke, but Eli's going off of half remembered notes...
    • Chloe is becoming a plot device, kind of like the stargate. Good she's about as stiff as the Gate.
    • Greer's becoming more controlled and complex. Good I like the actor.
    • Camile seems to be developing a friendship with Eli. I'm hoping it's a legit one. It would be a nice factor if, being torn between Rush and Young, he chose the third option. I also think she's about to get hurt bad by her partner. Plus I'd like to see more of Ming Na (No not that way you perv- well, yeah, that way too.)

    +1 :)

Started rewatching this recently after it was mentioned in the Defiance thread, and boy oh boy, I wish it had lasted a few more seasons.

It was just starting to get it's feat under it when it went. Imo, the first season was so-so, but it had picked up in the second and then "poof". That's always annoying. I just re-watched both seasons of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles. Interesting season end in season 2 and then "poof". Although I thought it was good from the get go... and of course, there's the ultimate geek lament; Firefly. Dead after what was really a 1/2 a season. This is getting depressing. Time to go back to grading papers. Not that that isn't depressing, but it's somewhat less so...

It really gets interesting when you read some of the concepts they had for season 3. :-(
