In what country will we start in?

Just so I can pencil in my character's reason for being there.

Wherever you like. I'd like to put together a short introductory paragraph or two before the party even starts. I was thinking our Pathfinders would be setting out from the Grand Lodge in Absalom and taking a ship, Adelaine would likely be traveling overland through Taldor. I suppose any of the coastal settlements or manors near the coast of Taldor would be a good start, but if you want to come from anywhere nearby, feel free. The remodeled manor house is a short distance from the southern coast, between the Merciful Bay and the Jalrune River; the closest settlement is Golsifar.

Hey, I SHOULD be ready by Wed. It's been a crazy week(end), and I have company for the next couple of nights, but I should be ready to roll by then.

Same here.

We can push it back, if you need more time. We'll start when everyone is ready, maybe spend a little more time on individual characters' prelude sections before getting everyone together if some of you guys are ready and chomping at the bit.

Davi:

Spoiler:
How would Zareby go about crashing the party? Just show up on the same day and lie his way in? With his background as a gambler, maybe he won an invite from another attendee that got in over his head?

Bryan:

Spoiler:
How do you think Adelaine has been going about her job? Did she become a servant in order to watch her, is she posing as a noblewoman to get invited?

GM:

Spoiler:
I'm not entirely sure. I'm tempted to say he found out about the party by winning a ticket in a bet, scalped the ticket, then lied his way in because, well, why have a ticket if you can get in for free?

Spoiler:
Remember that she joined the Pathfinders as cover, also - at the urging of some of the folks she truly reports to (FYI, I have GM-only spoilered text in her background that is right under the profile - easy to miss if you haven't seen it). However, I thought that a smaller chapter house in Oppara would be more likely than the one in Absalom. Maybe her venture captain was invited, and after cozying up to him, he invited her as his 'date' for the evening?

Oh, I know. I was saying that Mothman and Ragadolf's characters were coming in from Absalom. I just want to get an idea of where you are and what you're doing before the party. A Venture Captain is unlikely to show up, since most of them would consider this small potatoes. Perhaps the Chelaxians arrange for another guest's invitation to slip into your hands?

Likewise. Crazy weekend, busy week, but I'll try to put rest of character and background info up tonight or tomorrow.

Checking the Online SRD, it no longer mentions humans weapons training, do Humans no longer get a martial weapon proficiency (1 weapon) for free?

Can anyone with a copy of the PFRPG verify this for me? Thx.

No, no we don't.

Would you rather start on the weekend? I haven't seen almost anything from Callum yet, either, so a few extra days might help.

I'll try to get it done before then, just a lot of crazy RL stuff I'm dealing with.
Sorry so slow.

Also, this weekend I'm going to the beach since school is out on Monday (YAY 3 day weekends!) I'll be back on Tuesday.

My Mom and Aunt are renting a condo in Florida for an entire month, for the same price as a week would have cost them LAST month!

Did I mention,... YAY beach! :)

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

I can't believe I forgot that I have Monday off. Well, I won't bother with deadlines, this is supposed to be for fun after all. When everyone's got their characters together, we'll start. More time to get things planned, anyways.

Should be right to go within the next few hours. James, I did a bit of a background for Malatar, I'll spoiler it for now - I don't mind of the others read it, but if you prefer we start without us really knowing each other well, folk might not want to read it.

Spoiler:

Malatar was born to a relatively poor family of mixed Chelaxian, Varisian and Shoanti heritage in the Varisian city of Magnimar. Deciding at a fairly young age that he wanted to live a more exciting life than following the family tradition or working in abbotairs, slaughter-houses and as corpse collectors, the teenager ran away to sea.

Re-occurring bouts of sea-sickness cut short his career as a sailor having picked up few more skills than scrubbing decks and scraping barnacles, and he found himself ashore in the Andoran city of Augustana. After living off his wits for a few months, Malatar signed up for a five year stint with the Andoran, where he learnt sword-play and various combat skills, and generally saw little action apart from a few displays of saber rattling and minor skirmishes along the Cheliax border, which left him with little more than a touch of combat experience, some minor injuries and a badly broken nose.

His tour up, Malatar (still craving a more exciting and adventurous life) was convinced by one of his army buddies, the idealist and would-be paladin Itaden, to travel north and join the Mendevian Crusade against the demons of the Worldwound.

Perhaps fortunately for his life expectancy, Malatar was separated from Itaden on the journey, and never made it to Mendev; instead, he settled in with a mercenary company taking part in a minor border war in the River Kingdoms, and later continued his life as a mercenary for several years throughout the Kingdoms, Numeria and Ustalav.

Relatively early on in his mercenary career, Malatar found more excitement than he bargained for, when he was almost killed in battle courtesy of a sword blow to the face. Thanks to the cleric in his company he survived (with his life and sight, and the scars were not near as bad as they would otherwise have been), but began to question whether he wanted quite so much excitement. Still, the life of a warrior was the one he knew, and he didn’t have the funds to retire.

During his convalescence, he fell in with a company of sappers and siege engineers, and soon discovered that he took to matters of engineering, machines, building (and destroying) fairly well. He got along well with the others in the company, including the group’s leader, the failed wizard Captain Actos Vin, finding them to be a reasonably decent bunch (for mercenaries) – and the life of a siege engineer paid somewhat better than that of a sword swinger, and was generally safer.

Several years after joining Vin’s Gears, Malatar was with the company digging sapping tunnels during a conflict in Ustalav when they discovered an old, buried treasure cache – a king’s ransom, enough to divide between the whole troupe and leave them all moderately well off.

Feeling the years beginning to catch up with him, and his wish for a life of excitement somewhat dulled (and somewhat disappointed after his time as soldier and mercenary, both of which consisted mainly of a lot of waiting around and boredom), Malatar took his share and his leave of the company and traveled back to Andoran, where he purchased a modest house in Souston, married a pretty (and as it turned out, not particularly nice) girl named Kyleen, and prepared to settle down.

He didn’t have many skills beyond the warriors arts (and a few ideas on how to build engines of destruction), but he figured that if he invested his funds wisely, he and his new wife could lead a long and comfortable retirement – not bad at the ripe old age of 28.

Unfortunately, his investments were not wise at all (really not – he was smart, but had little intuition when it came to business), and his wife’s spending was far more than he could afford. After just two years or so of married life, he realized that his money was fast running out … so did his wife, and she left him, taking what little remained.

Finding himself once more virtually penniless (and scarred, bitter and cynical to boot), Malatar gathered up his second best weapons and armour (he’d had to sell his best set to pay his debts) and once again prepared to undertake the life of a mercenary, despite his combat skills being somewhat atrophied after a few years of easy living and several years of engineering work prior to that.

One thing, his years of being a (failed) business man and family man had reawakened his taste for adventure, and his brief period of wealth had made him crave more … he wondered if perhaps the life of a free-lance adventurer or tomb-raider might bring him both.

By chance, he ran into an old acquaintance he’d met in Numeria, a member of the Pathfinder Society named Selas Quent. Quent was on his way to Absolom for a promotion to Venture Captain, and invited Malatar along, suggesting that the Society might have profitable work for a man of his talents…

Yep, I've taken Anatomist (grew up in a family of butchers and corpse movers) and Mathematical Prodigy (for the years spent with the siege engineers). Just havent updated my CS yet - I'm almost done on paper, just niggling out the last bits of equipment (which I always find a bit tedious).

So, I think Malatar and Ragadolf's character would be acquaintances through the recently promoted Venture Captain. Ragadolf's character already knows Radavel's character from college or the Golarion equivalent of the Skull and Bones or something. And Davi and Bryan's character will have a unique coincidence in common, I think...

Callum? Out there? Let me know what you're working up and I'll figure a good entrance.

Mothman:

Spoiler:
Let's say that a few years ago, while Malatar was taking a shot at married life, he ran into Itaden (?) in Andoran. The crusade in Mendev and the Worldwound, along with several traumatizing deaths and restorations, resulted in him losing his paladinhood and several of the other men from the expedition. You would get a letter from him occasionally and last time you heard he was working security for a Taldane noblewoman named Lady Ashinana Vestang. It sounds like the same old boring job to you, but he was pretty proud of it and he eats well, so no complaints. You kind of can't blame him for settling after what he went through up North.

By the way James, I took the libery of making up a name for my Venture Captain aquaintance, but I'll change it to match what you had in mind if you like (assuming its the same person).

We'll stick with the name you've got; I'm really lousy at coming up with names anyhow.

Sorry, guys - I was away for the long weekend, and have only just got back. I've started sketching out my character, and will keep working on it.

As Marten is an out-of-work actor, he could be attending the party for any number of reasons. Maybe he's be invited to provide some entertainment, or as a (very) minor celebrity? He'll also have made a fair number of contacts during his "career", so could well be tagging along with one of them...

Dark Archive

Silas Tyr aka The Underhand, is a scoundrel, swindler and a libertine. He indulges in a lot of hedonistic pursuits and often violates the law to get what he wants though he has not been caught... yet. Silas Tyr makes a lot of deals with bad people.

He knows Rags' character from his previous pick up seminars at the university.

A deeper psychological analysis may reveal that his addiction to pleasure is perhaps a coping mechanism to humanity's fleeting existence.

He wields a pair of long knives in combat.

Rad:

Spoiler:
I was thinking that maybe your character has a Calistria-related mission: a rival to Lady Vestang is competing with her for the affection of the rich and well connected Duke Sallin. She plans to bring you to the party to seduce the hostess and foil her plans for the Duke while your escort swoops in on the hapless nobleman. Does that sound like something you can get behind?

Callum: I'll have a good idea of your PC's angle in a little while.

Dark Archive

For Keegan

Spoiler:
Copy that. Seduction is my middle name. The rival contacted me through the usual channels.

Sorry for the delay folks.
Working on the basics in a Word doc now. Will post it up soon-ish. HOpefully tonight!

My biggest drawback, STILL deciding what type of wizzie to be!

See ya soon!

Dark Archive

For Keegan

Spoiler:
Just to be certain my mission is to prevent the rival from gaining the affections of the Dukey, or if she has it already make her lose it. And Silas Tyr has been promised how much for this deal, if any? Or is this some kinda of dangerous liasons/cruel intentions adventure where the reward is....?

Spoiler:
Basically. The idea is that your patron wants you to distract Lady Vestang with your charm and panache, maybe by passing yourself off as a rich and powerful foreign merchant or nobleman escorting your patron. Once Lady Vestang "steals" you from your patron, your patron will be able to make her advances on the Duke. She's offering 500 gold as a "donation" to the church; of course, how much goes to the temple of Calistria is up to you. Side benefits befitting your inclinations are, of course, open for discussion. She'll discuss the terms with you in character when we get started so you can roleplay the negotiations.

Still working on the technical details, but I present for your consideration,...
WILLIAM WYRDRUNE!

Only has basic background right now, still working out details on Word .doc.

I only have ONE possible thing to request you consider for a Non-PFRPG feat.

Collegiate Wizard: Start with 6 Spells, Gain 4 spells each level instead of 2.

Because this goes with his background. But if not, I will go with core, no problem.

WIll post hopefully tonight, but am trying to pack for my vacate this weekend!

Rags, it seems like Malatar and William may know each other (at least passingly) through the Pathfinders. Malatar has his own reason for attending this soiree (he’s hoping to catch up with an old friend), but perhaps he’s also acting as Will’s bodyguard (on the road if not at the party) if William is here on official Pathfinder business.

What? The famed singer/actor/writer is joining?

Oh, wait, I'm thinking of someone else. I wonder if anyone else got that joke...

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Ah, yes, but which Nicolas Cage? Raising Arizona Cage, Gone In 60 Seconds Cage or (God save us all) Wicker Man Cage?

I'll let you take the college wizard feat, Rags. Where do you want to be from? Absalom is kind of the easiest fit, but if you don't want to be a big city boy, that's fine. There are two mage colleges there, as well: The Arcanimarium (largest and most practical, most often produces generalists with a few diviners and invokers sprinkled here and there) and the College of Mysteries (small, extremely exclusive, extremely expensive; caters more to experienced spellcasters).

Ah, Actually I'm basing this character on the National Treasure Nick cage! :)
You know, knows more about history than anyone, including the ones who LIVED through it! AND happens to be an insufferable know-it-all! ;D

Thank you for the feat, And Absalom will be fine, the Arcanimarium mentioned is great.
(Now I just need to look in my PF guides and find Absalom,...) ;P

OH, Moth, knowing Malatar works for me. How insufferable is Will going to be now, his first assignment for the Pathfinders, and he rates a bodyguard! (At least for the road, even if it IS just for convenience sake,...)
;P

Dark Archive

Haha. I think your knowitall attitude is your obstacle to wooing the women.

Human Wizard-Diviner

There you go, basically done, need to pick my last spell for my spellbook, and actually go shopping, (I just pasted in my usual starting explorer pack) But other than that, it should be pretty much ready.

Eh, it won't bother Malatar much ... he'll just tune him out (and privately think he's a pompous ass), although if he started to get treated like a servant or the hired help he'd either chew him out or just walk off and let Will look after himself.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Looks good, Mothman; only error I can see is that Malatar's CMD is a point too high. Should be 14 [10+1 (base attack) +2 (Str) +1 (Dex)= 14].

Okay, so we're just waiting on Marten the Bard and for Silas the Cleric.

Callum:

Spoiler:
The theme for the party is ancient civilization, particularly the Azlanti which the Taldane consider their glorious ancestors. The Lady Vestang has hired you to play Aroden for them and has supplied you with a splendid costume. Your job is to stay in character and talk to the guests, which shouldn't be too difficult since Aroden appears in many popular historical(ish) plays.
