Update from Mom "Tracy had a rough day today. Steroids saved her life, but they come with a cost. We are very tired. She is weak and discouraged. Thankfully, there is an end in sight. Her #'s keep improving. She has to push herself so hard, though, to do such basic things. We really need to focus on the physical therapy and get her up and moving a bit. I hear this odd thunking sound as I finish the last mile of my drive to work. I get to the office and park, and discover a lovely hex bolt jammed to the hilt in one of my tires. I'm now waiting for the phone call from the tire place nearby telling me I have to get a new tire. And the federal holiday this week bumped our paychecks to next week instead of today....
[Sigh]I guess all I can do is laugh about it. Happy Friday all... ;P
[EDIT]: I stand corrected - I need all of my tires replaced. And I have to cough up a kidney to replace just the one for right now.

Will do. I'm staggered by the number of people I know that need prayers. You guys in your job searches, those with emotional items, and a HUGE number of people with major health issues. I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and wish I could do more.

I'm using a Kauffmann Tire that's just a mile away, and they normally do right by me. It's just the perfect storm of Old Tires + No Moola + No Choice (on getting the repair done).
Meh - At least I caught it before my 25-mile insterstate commute home. It's annoying as hell, but better than having a blowout and possibly wrecking the car. I'll just get the other tires replaced one at a time if necessary - and I may even be able get one done this weekend, if I'm lucky.
And they just called to say my car's ready. Well at least that's done. :)

Friday the 13th. My wife's cousin (really sweet girl from a really good family) went to graduate school in the Netherlands. The program was in English. We both threw her some academic support, as it was a big step going from Thai undergrad to European grad in her second language. She got worked over by a professor, and told she would not be allowed to graduate from the program. We helped her write a couple of letters, just asking for basic fairness in assessing the situation: lettering her repeat a class and have an exam re-evaluated (the graded reproduction was illegible). Long story short, the committee went way beyond these basic requests and after deliberations, she was informed that she would be graduating. So happy for her.

Others believe the phrase originated in Ireland. To knock on wood was to alert leprechauns that you were thanking them for giving you good luck. Another popular belief is that by knocking on wood you prevent the devil from hearing what you have just said, which in turn prevents the action from occurring. It is possible that the origination of the phrase "knock on wood" is derived from Christianity and the wood is a reference to the cross on which Jesus was crucified.

Oh I'm sure, but the store where we will be playing only sells 4E and they really want me to use the system that people can buy from them.Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to convince that store to sell Pathfinder. :)
Trust me I'm trying. However, RPGs aren't their main focus so they are reluctant to branch out right now, until they see how the market is. It took a lot of discussion to get them to let me run anything there.

Actually the default is five party members. That is what all the encounters in written adventures are built off of.
