I appeal to wiser heads than mine. Potions of levels 4-9?

General Discussion (Prerelease)

I found and printed the applicable page from some book that showed the process for creating potions of Levels 4-9. Now I would like to know what book it was in. Does anyone have any idea? My Grouchy Old Fart memory is failing me terribly.

Just my 2 cp.

There's a PrC in Maigc of Faerun that allows you to create higher level potions as you level up. That's the only one I know of but I don't have many books that are not WotC 3.x so you might be thinking of something different.

There's a PrC somewhere out there from an independant sourcebook called the Master Alchemist... It also had the ability to make potions beyond spell lvl 3.

But I can't remember where I saw it! Ughhh!

Anyone?

As Frogboy noted, it's in 'Magic of Faerûn'.

Of course... you can always just treat them as one-shot wondrous items and call them elixirs...

That's not a bad idea. Hopefully standard potions are cheaper to create so that Brew Potion isn't a totally worthless feat.

Hey guys! I just created some more elixers of cure moderate wounds. Who needs some?

The old 'Masters of the Wild' splatbook (3.0) had a feat called 'Create Infusions' which basically allowed for brewing 'potions' for divine spells from 1st to 9th level (actually, the spell was imbibed into an herb).

Also, 'Frostburn' splatbook had a feat called 'Craft Skull Talisman' which allowed for enchanting a fetish skull with a spell (if I remember correctly, to imbue powerful spells you had to use skulls from Large or larger creatures).

'Magic of Faerûn' also has rules for Gem Magic and Rune Magic, i.e. imbuing gems and runes with spells that are triggered when certain conditions (set by you) are met.

Elixirs? Hmmm...

Thanks for the suggestions. I just want to mention that what I am looking to find is not in 'Magic of Faerun". From what I can see on the page I have I believe it is from a 3PP, but I can not remember who published it nor which book it was in. Perhaps I should just give up looking.

I wish to thank everyone who attempted to help me find a lost book. I found what I was looking for. It is in Green Ronin’s Spiros Blaak Campaign Setting.

In order to create potions above 3rd level requires two additional feats. They are:
Improved Brew Potion – Prerequisites: Caster level 7th, Craft (Alchemy) 5 ranks, Brew Potion; Benefit: You can create an oil or potion from 4th to 6th level using the Brew Potion guidelines.

Greater Brew Potion – Prerequisites: Caster level 13th, Craft (Alchemy) 8 ranks, Brew Potion, Improved Brew Potion; Benefit: You can create an oil or potion of level 7th to 9th using the Brew Potion guidelines.

Perhaps this gives others some ideas.

Just my 2 cp.

Cool, Master Alchemist has seen some use in our FR game too, but more options are a good thing!

I neglected to include that potions from spell level 4-6 require one day to prepare, and potions of spell level 7-9 require two days to prepare.

And they're also really big! (Those 8th-level potions are about a half-gallon or so. Whoa!)

There's also AEG's Swashbuckling Adventures campaign setting, which has an Alchemist class that brews temporary potions as its spellcasting and is allowed to brew permanent potions of 4-9th level spells eventually.

I nearly snarfed on my monitor!!

Here are the feats that I was looking for and another couple I found that has some interest along with the references.

Some suggested Feats for Second Darkness.

Greater Improved Initiative (General)
You react much more quickly than normal in a fight.
Prerequisites: Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes.
Benefits: You receive a +4 bonus on Initiative checks. This bonus stacks with the bonus from Improved Initiative.
Reference: Freeport – City of Adventure, p 125.

Armor Prowess (General)
You are nimble and proficient under the encumbrance of armor.
Prerequisite: STR 13, Armor Proficiency (Heavy).
Benefit: Wearing Medium or Heavy armor does not lower your base speed. When wearing Heavy armor your max run speed is unchanged. Furthermore, reduce any armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of -1).
Reference: Spiros Blaak, p108

Greater Brew Potion (Item Creation)
You can brew potions of greater potency than those provided by the Improved Brew Potion feat.
Prerequisites: Caster Level 13, Craft (Alchemy) 8 ranks, Brew Potion, Improved Brew Potion.
Benefit: You can create a potion or oil of any spell of level 7 to 9 under the same rules and guidelines as described under the Brew Potion feat. Brewing takes two (2) days.
Reference: Spiros Blaak, p 112

Improved Brew Potion (Item Creation)
You can brew potions of greater potency than those provided by the Brew Potion feat.
Prerequisites: Caster Level 7, Craft (Alchemy) 5 ranks, Brew Potion.
Benefit: You can create a potion or oil of any spell of level 4 to 6 under the same rules and guidelines as described under the Brew Potion feat.
Reference: Spiros Blaak, p 113.
