Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Qadira, Gateway to the East is a bit unique. It got delayed by the Paizo "snowpocalypse" of 2008, and its revised release date placed it much closer to the release date of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook. Rather than publishing a regional sourcebook and follow it a month later with the new rules, we secretly replaced its regular coffee with... I mean, secretly updated all the rules content to the Pathfinder RPG. So, technically, Qadira is a preview of Pathfinder that's available right now... we just kept it a secret.

They let this slip by very quietly.

Now where are those interns, I must have a word with them. And a pound of flesh.

I have a secret fear that I don't want to say out loud, for fear it will come true.

Great blog post! Great coffee!

Don't worry, I am fully confident that its just a rash.

Whew!

I'm okay with just a rash of small pics. But if they became a regular thing, I would be plunged into a bottomless sea of sadness.

Man, they could have told us BEFORE I selected Cheliax as the start of my subscription!

I'm sure you could change it.

Yeah sent an email, so hopefully all good. I went to add PFRPG to the subscriptions as well, but 50 bucks postage to NZ? man it must be a BIIIIIG mofo of a book :p Thanks fully Amazon still charge the normal book price mwahahahaaaaa

Dark Archive

It was so awesome to get to read through this book at Paizocon

Edit: and hard to keep the secret.

Nice art! Can't wait to see the final product.

I'd be interested to see what kind of rules stuff is in the book, as there hasn't been a lot of rules in many of the books.

Traits, the Daivrat prestige class (Friend to all Genies instead of a Genie Binder), a feat for dervishes of Sarenrae who like to fight with a scimitar in one hand and nothing else in the other, Traits, a few more Traits, the Half-Janni template, the Suli-Jann race (the Tiefling to the Half-Janni's Half-Fiend), and the Zhyen, a new* kind of familiar for Qadiran mages including Daivrats.

Maybe other lines have been rules light, but the Companions have been pretty solid since day one. They generally have 1/2 flavor and 1/2 crunch, including new spells, feats, traits, weapons, magic items, etc. It seems that a Companion is the perfect opportunity to show off new rules in a variety of different areas. I can't wait for it to come!

Yeah, but they're still just individual monster pics, not big, impressive vignettes from the various APs like the "Snagged from the Vault" Final Wish post was, with that scene of Seoni and Valeros taking on the giant golem/monster that ended up as the background of the cover to PF #24.

Lots of monster pics are good, but they don't work too well as wallpapers unless you piece a whole bunch together.

Well, 700 x 467 pixels for pictures of Quadiran riders and cocaktrice fight is still pretty small... At least if you want to use those pictures as desktop wallpapers. :-)

Just a FYI for paizo and any fellow fans that try to open the pic for Abrogail, the link is messed up. It adds a E to .jpeg if you remove the e you can see the larger pic. Least until Paizo fixes the link.

Thanks for catching that, Dark Mistress. I can now stop yelling at the screen and pounding my poor keyboard.

ADD: A cockatrice fight? Brilliant.

Queen Abrogail.. good looking, and evil (changing history! Boo). Not as nice as a certain red haired queen, but still.

Hail to the Queen!

That's why I like bowing to our royalty. The view is is great from any angle.

I think three more assassinations this month and I become an Imperial Assassin. Gold's the same, but there are certain.... benefits.

Speaking of work: Is any of you a respected historian hell-bent on preserving the so-called "facts of history"? Because it's bonus week.

Yes, our beloved Majestrix looks absolutely stunning there... her undying beauty outshines the sun itself! Truly, we are blessed, and envied by all the other nations!

We understand one another, Sir Oliver. I thought you were new for a moment, but I see you just don't post often. By the way, [OT]

Spoiler:
Have you ever seen that huge book Croatia in the Early Middle Ages: A Cultural Survey? If so, I'm curious what you think about it.

Never heard about that book but I got more then fair usage out of Croatian medieval history in my Warhammer game. Not really usable for high fantasy D&D game, but very useful for grim & gritty setting. :-)

Blessing would imply holiness. I thought you young Chelaxian upstarts were all in favor of this newfangled... gothic emo diabolism... thingie.

Truly, this is a sad fate for what was once a productive part of our glorious empire. The sooner you realize that, you can stop with this foolishness and return into our warm embrace.

Oh, let's not even compare the Majestrix to your poor, sickly and inbred "Grand Prince" Stavian! And just as we're blessed with such a wise and beautiful ruler, we're also blessed with the favor of Holy Asmodeus -- if you want to discuss the subject of holiness, I can always ask some of our priests to stop by your crumbling manor house...

(you can stop quivering in your boots -- I'm not going to send any devils to drag your sorry carcass to slav... er, willing life-long servitude to the Empire... YET!) ;P

Sir Oliver wrote:

Just godliness. Doesn't have one of those do-gooders or a pretent do-gooder who doesn't have the balls to admit to his pro-slavery viewpoint.

Sir Oliver wrote:

Emo? Hardly. We don't sit around whining how all's so very dreadful and what has the world come to while our country decays around us. We all know who does that.

So you want a productive part once again? You should buy one. Pretty much the only way for you to get one these days. Seriously: Offer those Andoran punks to buy their country. They're so progress-oriented, I'm sure they'll be all for kapitalism.

Majestrix? more like a teenage trollop with fanciful title. Is this pubescent puppet best you could have came up with after decades of civil war? In that case, your losses among the true-bred nobility must have been truly staggering! But such is the fate of crude people untrained in the subtle ways of political infighting: destroy all you can and then bow down to weakly womanfolk.

I also greatly enjoyed your tongue gesture: I guess that is what passes for an insult among Cheliax nobility... Or was it Andoran pig-herders? Sometimes I mix those two.

As amusing as it might be, any discussion vis-a-vis internal quality of various nations of Avistan would merely represent unnecessary distraction from something that is obvious to all people of good breed: namely, that Taldor is dominating force throughout all the important parts of the world. You breathe our language and worship our culture while your sulphuric servants fear our gods: righteous Abadar, rapscallion Cayden Cailean, omnious Norgober and divinely beautiful Shelyn.

We don't have to fight you, nor those meddling Andoran fools. We only have to... wait you out. A decade here, a millenium there: it doesn't matter. Because such is the nature of the world: countries come and go but Taldor is forever.

How about our militaries then? Ours has the support of the legions of HELL ITSELF. Yours has... What? Is your backup away arguing which fork it is better to start the evening meal with? Oh, well, by all means. This is a discussion which will take all day. We'll wait. The hordes of Barbazu at our command, though, they may have a few issues.

Seniority in age proves nothing. Look at your sorry excuse for a nation: Really old, and everybody is setting bets on when you will croak - and we're already putting the ale on ice, because it can't be long now. I think your average newborn half-orc has a higher life expectancy than Taldor.

Sir Oliver wrote:

We took one look at what blue-bloods do to a country (and that gaze set firmly on Taldor for just a second) and then murdered all so-called "True Nobles".

And look how we're still going strong - without haemorrhaging money like an orc stumbling into an elf archery contest.

Sir Oliver wrote:

Yeah, if you define "important parts of the world" as "the crumbling wasteland that is called Taldor, which is Chelaxian for Laughingstock"

Sir Oliver wrote:

You breathe our language

Nah, we talk Chelaxian - just like most of the inner sea region.

Sir Oliver wrote:

Your gods? Abadar stays because of the money - and will leave as soon as that's gone, Cayden opposes your half-hearted attempty at slavery and suppression, Norgorber does his murdering in Taldor because he cannot hold a candle to even the lowest Chelaxian-trained assassin, and Shelyn is just being polite.

"Forever" being "until Quadira gets bored and decides to while away a Sunday afternoon by leveling some have-been imperialists."

I have very little to add to Kae's magnificent reply to you, so I'll only say this: we don't breathe or worship your decadent empire's pathetic values or culture, and never have. As for "true-bred" nobility... just take a look at your own pale and drooling "Grand Prince" to see the results of centuries of inbreeding -- not that impressive, right? You can sit in your crumbling keeps and country mansions wrapped in your delusional dreams of the glory that was, but some day you'll awaken to the sound of marching Qadiran or Chelaxian boots, and then we'll see how long your "forever" will last!

Hence my expression "people of good breed". Chelaxians, unfortunately, do not qualify.

<yawn>

It's not the vulgarity of Chelaxian temper tantrums that bothers me but their repetitive dullness.

We have leadership. And it's good one, because it's not some fop who fell bass ackwards into money and has no real skills.

Says someone who can repeat the same story every sunday for 50 years: A story of some glorious millitary victory.

Of course, when you only ever had that one glorious victory, it's hard to have a decent reportoire of conversation. Not everyone considers trying to talk others into a coma to be a worthwhile form of dueling.

They were thrown out - those that couldn't accept their inferior station. It's not as much "not bothering" as "admitting defeat".

I'd love, too. There's already bets on how long the satrap's armies would take to turn Taldor into the next Keleshit satrapy. Smart money is on three weeks.

It must sting to know that the only thing that keeps your country from being overrun is some far-off Padishah Emperor holding his satrap in check. My guess is that as soon as the old coot kicks off (can't be long now), Quadira's armies will be unleashed to conquer Taldor, and make a weekend for it.

Why not both? We could meet in the middle and and cook some meat on the burning ruins of Oppara!
