Just an FYI, but for anyone who liked the Proteans in The Great Beyond, PF22, and
More crunch than I'm generally known for, but flavor heavy stuff and useful both for proteans and for PCs in a campaign that features them. Plus a pair of artifacts that respectfully touche on one of the keketars detailed in PF22, and on some Maelstrom/Abyssal prehistory.
I'd love to know what anyone thinks about it if you subscribe to KQ, or happen to pick up this latest issue. :D

It's honestly a crunch focused companion to the Ecology of the Proteans in PF22.
And for anyone who's as arguably obsessive about Golarion's planar continuity as I am, the rumored location of one of the Shards of the Broken Crown of Mek'mi'liis actually refers to the locations of three shards. One shard in the Candleflame Chancre in the Abyss, another in the horde of the unique elemental dragon Kelizandri (in Elemental Water somewhere in the drowned ruins of the ancient marid capital city), and the third in the possession of a minor daemonic noble in Abaddon loyal to Trelmarixian (likely Vorasha the Ophidian, but that's not in the article).

And there you go..

Well, hey James, Wes, and Wolfgang, I sure would sure like to see Todd allowed to write more supplemental planar articles like this one.. not only for Paizo but KQ too!

Well in that case, I am going to have to find the funds to shift KQ from "would like to have" to "must have". No doubt about it.
If/when I finish my project to place Ptolus in Golarion, I was thinking of making the Galchutt proteans.

To those that are still on the fence about subscribing to Kobold Quarterly or not, I seriously cannot recommend it enough! As Mr. Mona himself has aid, KQ really is the spiritual successor to Dragon magazine.
It is such a fantastic magazine, the people involved do such a great job and the quality is just top notch ... I can honestly say that, in my opinion, everyone on these boards needs to subscribe. You get top quality game material (Third Edition, some Fourth Edition and plenty of Pathfinder along with edition neutral stuff) and an all around top quality magazine.
I just can't say enough about this mag!
Everyone who has not subscribed should head over to the site and take a look. I really think you'll be glad you did!

I have a birthday coming up. This might make for a good gift. I have the first few issues and I must say I loved it.

KQ feels like Dragon more and more to me every issue that comes out.
Thank you Elorebaen, you really know how to make an editor's heart grow three sizes. Or is that head? :)
In any case, I'm thrilled with both Todd's article and Wicht's Gelatinous Cubes; this particular issue came together very well, and we're looking to keep up the Pathfinder momentum with more Paizo-reviewed-and-approved content in future.

Any chance of a KQ subscription via Paizo?
Considering the KQ support of the PFRPG, its support by Paizo, and Paizo's ever increasing number of subscription this shouldn't pose much of a problem, should it?Cheers,
Günther

Am I missing something? When I go to Magazines here at Paizo, it has up to KQ9 only (I have 1-9). Has KQ10 not been release to Paizo yet? or am I looking in the wrong place?
Cheers

BC,
Kobold Quarterly (thus far) does it's own subscriptions, and offers a PDF & Print subscription. E-mails went out around 7 am this morning PST announcing that the PDF is available for subscribers.
Probably in a few days (or less) it will be available here at Paizo.com.
Just like Paizo AP PDFs go out to subscribers right away, and then are later available for purchase by non-subscribers.
EDIT: Just to be clear, for the moment KQ handles it's own subscriptions but offers individual PDFs for sale here at Paizo. Some folks would like to see Paizo offer the subscription on KQ's behalf, because KQ can only accept payment through PayPal.. and that has been a concern for them. Here at Paizo you can just buy things with a major credit card and be done with it, without PayPal in the middle.

Thanks Watcher!, knew about the subs, just in the past when people were talking about them they seemed to be here to buy the PDF...for some reason this time, I notice the talk before Paizo has it to offer. I think I have just got in early this time. Will happily wait for the PDF here. (I am one of those people that prefer to pay with credit card instead of Paypal!) :-)

Also good to note is that alliance game distributors (East coast facilities) seem to get KQ very late (They only got enough of #8 to cover preorders in MAY, it came out in JAN)

That's cool by us! We always love to see Pathfinder stuff show up in KQ, so as much as Wolf's willing to have and Todd wants to write really. As for Pathfinder, we just signed Todd on for a good sized ecology article in Kingmaker. What it is will have to remain a secret for a bit longer, but it's doubtlessly going to be quite unexpected.

Protean stuff. Chaos Magic. You can't see me with any money, can you. You have to make sure I spend it all.

Actually I'm tempted to guess Ecology of the Tiefling.
My reservation against betting the farm is.. would Paizo do an Ecology article on a race that some people would want to be playable?
(Maybe.. or maybe not.. I find myself unsure of the playable status of the tiefling and aasimar in the Golarion campaign setting)
But instinct says the Tiefling.
In a general sense, its mostly a matter of collating various clues in chats and various message board posts. No special intelligence on my part.
But hey.. I'm prepared to be wrong.

Already working on another piece for KQ, though of course no idea yet if the final piece will be accepted. James knows what it's going to be about since I asked about the topic in advance of pitching it to Wolfgang. Hoping to have it finished and submitted sooner rather than later.
And already doing the background reading and brainstorming for the ecology piece in Kingmaker. Really looking forward to it, and I would bet money that nobody correctly guesses just what it is before it comes out. Don't always assume that just because I -adore- planar material that that's exclusively what I write.
It is neither the ecology of the century worm nor the ecology of the stench kow. I'll be upfront about that. ;)

No longer taking first-born children I see? I knew there would come a day when KQ went legit and had to start playing by the rules.

Wow! There's no stopping these guys.
Heh, I guess for all my gathering of clues it would be helpful if I read the product descriptions. You get that way after a few years of subscribing, because you know it's coming whether you read the catalog or not.
