*Sorry guys just have to vent some

I had my final appointment for SSI today. I went expecting the worse (Needles, poking, proding, x-rays...), but nothing like that happened. After meeting Dr. Fink and having a seat, we spent 45 mins talking. Just talking.

For the third time in a month I had to tell my of how I got sick, and how I still am today (by the way the 28th of September I'll be going on 5 years. Make sure to buy Collywobbles a gift [yes I've named it]). After taking a some information he started giving me some tests. The first one... Folding paper in half. After that it was followed by repeating numbers and words forwards and back. Oh before I go on I have three words for you: Apple, penny, table. Repeat those.

After that we moved on to counting ending in repeating number sequences backwards (1,2,3,4 - 4,3,2,1) and counting back from 100 by 7's. I have now know I cannot think in reverse.

After this we went back to talking about my condition after telling again about the situation and almost crying in process. He asked me why I felt depressed and after pointing out that since I got sick I've been unable to live my life as normal. I don't live in my own home. It hurts to bend, move, getting around period. At which point I almost broke down crying. Taking all this he suffled his papers together, looked me in the eyes and said "I think you should see a doctor. I can tell this problem is causing you undue pain. I can you you will be denied for SSI."

At this point my mother walked out of the room crying.

"You should be recieving your denial letter in the mail. Make sure you appeal it. In the meantime you should hire one of those lawyers on the tv. They say they help people. But you should also try to find a doctor that will you."

... SIGH...

You today's been a giant GOD*@%^ waste of time. So I'm not sire what to do anymore. He did mention is joking that I should hurt myself to see a doctor. Or atleast get sent to jail to get free health care.

Remember those three word from earlier? Without looking up, repeat them backwards.

You have my deepest sympathies. My wife has suffered from chronic, debilitating pain for about twenty-five years. She couldn't get any doctors to recognize that she was in pain--several times she was told to spend the weekend in bed and take some advil. We moved about eight years ago to South Carolina where we found a doctor who recognized her symptoms and suggested she see a specialist over in Florence. Within fifteen minutes, he had a diagnosis and scheduled her for surgery. While she is still in great pain, she is able to function much better than she was able to, and the initial doctor has promised her that he will work to help her lead as normal a life as possible.

I am so very sorry you have hit this wall. I know a little bit about how frustrating the medical profession and its related bureaucracies can be. What helped her (and me) was finally finding a doctor who was willing to "get in her corner". I pray that you'll be able to find relief.

It is my understanding that SSDI claims are almost routinely denied at the initial filing stage, which is probably why you were told to file an appeal. Although I'm a lawyer, I don't work in that area, but have friends who do. From what they've told me in the past, the process is a bit messed up. Basically, you have to apply, get denied, and then appeal and deal with that whole process before you can actually get anywhere.

Don't give up. FInd a reputable lawyer who can help you. Most in that field work on a contingency basis. That is to say, there is no initial cost to you, and they only get paid if you do.

Good luck.

My wife was also turned down initially for her disability claim. After doing some research, we discovered that she needed a Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE). Once she got that, the disability claim went through without a hitch.

Legal channels are certainly an option, but you might want to talk to the people at SSI about the FCE.

My wife has asked me to explain that and FCE is a 3 to 4 hour long test with a physical therapist. Unfortunately, these tests are not cheap. The least expensive one is about $600.00 and insurance wouldn't pay for hers, though, your insurance company might view it differently.

If you want to talk to me (or my wife about it) shoot me an email at evenest(at)juno(dot)com. Oh, if you do send me an email, please mention the paizo board in the RE so I don't delete it.

~winces~ Damn! I am sorry to hear that Lazaro. However, I agree with Sublimity and Billzabub. DON'T GIVE UP!!! It sucks that you have been going though this for this long, but you have to keep at it until you get the help you need. I just wish that there was more that I could do to assist you, other than cheer you on and say a few prayers. I do wish you the best with your troubles. Oh, and rant away for as long as you want to!!!

Damn... And I thought I got problems.... Best of luck man!

*hugs*

Sorry to hear that, as well- I'm pulling for ya, so hang in there. :)

So talked to a guy from NM Human Resources today. My case has been sent in for review for General Assistance (it's like insurance for low/no income persons). So after talking to him about my past troubles and about my failed SSI sttempt he siad he would contact the doctors and offices vistied during those exams and obtain my medical information. After that the State would decide if i'm worthy of medical help.

It's been almost a month since upfront denial for SSI. Of course can't appeal since the paperwork hasn't arrived. I also haven't heard back from the State of NM on my GA case. It's just has me in a panicked mode. At one point they were sending me letters and calling checking on my condition. Now nothing, and what's lovely is that my case worker has no information either. I love sitting in Limbo!!!

To Make matters a bit more complicated I developed... "growths". I won't expand on it any more than that as so spare the ickiness. And of course the hospitals are of no help being this isn't an emergency situation they could care less. Of course if it were an ememergeny they still wouldn't care. Stick a bandaid on me, and hope I don;t die on the way to the curb, Not to sound as a downer, which I am, but really after 5 years of this shit I'm starting to wonder what to do.

I wish this thing would just hurry up and run it's course. Though after 5 years I doubt that's going to happen any time soon. It may sound demented, we (my family and myself) make fun of... "it" on most occasions. Hey you can either laugh about it or cry about it. And while some days are hard I prefer to laugh.

Sorry for making you all sit through another venting. Just wound up from not sleeping/over sleeping T_T

I am usually a lurker but this hit home so I thought I would share. Definitely get a lawyer. Like stated they only get paid if your SSI goes through. I have been denied 2 times and appealed and finally just got to talk to a judge a few weeks ago. SSI is all about your ability to work a FULL time job, any full time job available in the US market. They will have a person that looks at your condition and decides if you could work anything. With my mental illnesses they could not come up with any jobs so I am hoping for the best.

And here I thought I could stop myself from bringing this back up.

Just got the letter today denying me for General Assistance through the state of NM. I'm not sure how to proceed now. As of the the 28th of September it's been 5 years since I got sick and was able to work. The thing hurting my case so much is the lack of medical info. But then again it's hard to have any recent information when no one in this @#$% area will see you without cash or insurance. NOt to mention the hospital and my previous doctor lost my records... AGAIN

GRRRRR!

So just got done talking with my caseworker to talk about my denial for GA and what to do next.

Well to his surprise, and mine, he didn't even now about the denial. The state didn't even send him my paperwork. To add on to it the state denied the application without even looking at it. Oh and one more thing the state was supposed to send me to a doctor before making their decision of course that never happened.

So now I'm back at square one. I need to reapply for both SSI and GA. Then get denied SSI and then appeal that denial, which means hiring a lawyer. During this denial the GA will be put in, again, and hopefully I'll be accepted and get to see a doctor.

I would also recommend trying to find a lawyer who specializes in SSI cases. Otherwise the guy may have the best intentions and still screw things up worse.

Good news, bad news time.

The bad news: Collywobbles, as we call "it", will one day kill me.

The good news: A new 10 year study confirms marijuana relieves pain, and MS symptoms.

More good news: For the first time in nearly 4 years I get to see a doctor!!!

Ladies and gentlemen... After seeing the doctor today I've been okayed for my medical tests!!! It's been, you know lets just say 6, 6 years but I finally get the test I need.

Friday I have to get some minor tests run (LIPID w/LD, CBC and TSH). Then on the March 3rd I get checked in for 2 CT Scans (one with and one without contrast)!!!

This is the best news I've had in a long, long, long time ^_^

And if it's worth anything I meet with HUD in morning to discuss finding a place to live.

-Sidenote- They said my blood pressure was a bit high and that I'm weighting in at 360lbs. :(-

Well according to the doc there's no reason medical reason he can find for he pain or distention in my side. He is prescribing medicine though... for diabetes!!! My blood sugar is somewhat high and while not diabetic it's better just to take it :p Of course not medication for the pain ?_?

What he did find though was a case of fatty liver. That'll go good nice Chianti. And that my large intestine has been pushed out. Both can cause so minor discomfort but the level of pain that's been documented...

I'm not sure what to do now :( This is really starting to take it out of me

Writing's still the same but if you mean problems stringing together a simple sentence or have problems recalling common word's (or anything sometimes) BIG TIME.

-Sidenote- should really stop looking at or have people look up things on the internet. Apparently my fatty liver can kill me in a number of ways hehe. As for the whole large intestine pushing out thing found nothing on that... thank the gods. Oh and the doc has told me my lower spine bends a bit but thats ok. I think I'm falling apart LOL <_<

Pardon me for prying, but did this come on fairly suddenly?

It started off awhile back, 2-3 years ago. Started with dates or names. But that never worried me I've always been a "face" person not a "name" person.

But lately in the past 6 months or so it's gotten worse. Words, names, sentences. Hell today I was filling out paperwork for the doctor and I forgot my SSN, and I've know that since I was six. WORSE, I was running my RotRL game tonight and forgot character and NPC names!!! That and had to keep looking up CMB and CMD rules :(

I hope everything works out okay in the end. There's probably not much we can do to help, but we can at least be here to listen sympathetically.

Did they check out the possibility of a minor stroke?

No. The doctor is pretty much sticking to his opinion that everything comes down to me being fat and that an American diet is bad for anyones health.

If this next set of tests comes up nil he has said he'll recommend a pain specialist.

I'm just wondering. And then there's the language thing. Obesity and high blood pressure are a cause of strokes in younger people but, because they're younger, it often goes undiagnosed.

Sorry for poking my nose in.

Well finally was able to get my medical records today. Swear I had to make sacrifices to Orcus to accompilsh just to get one page. The doc's still in the dark about what's causing the pain.

Here's what we do know thanks to the paperwork:

I have Diverticulosis of the distal colon, and suffer from fatty liver and thoracic scoliosis. Have to do some google-fu to look up the divericulosis. But that's where I stand hoping that with making it this far I'll be seeing the end soon.

Great side note though. After being without a home for so long, I use family and friends computers to be on, I got news I may be getting some living arrangements :))

Best wishes on the living arrangements, and I'm glad to hear some progress is being made on sorting out your medical condition.

Welcome to the club. I have that and it pretty well sucks. I'm generally in pain. Most days aren't that bad, but enough that it's always there to remind me what I have. And the doctors weren't terribly helpful to me either. "You're too young to have this." As if that made a difference in my case. Watching my diet hasn't really helped me. And the only real "solution" that I've found is rather major surgery to take out the affected portion. Not willing to go through that yet.

Good luck and hope that yours gets better.

I started getting diverticulitis when I was still in my 20's, and yeah, it just sucks. Had little to do with my diet; nearly every episode was fueled by stress. The doctor told me I could either live with it, or have about a foot of colon removed, which was only about 75% likely to cure it. Since both my dad and grandfather had it as well, and both ended up having to have emergency surgery due to it causing a small rupture, I ended up opting for the pre-emptive surgery. 7 weeks of pain and recovery, but (knock on wood) it's been about 7 years and it hasn't come back. The 'best' thing about it was the 30 pounds I lost the first week because I couldn't eat (wasn't even allowed water until like 4 days after). But that's a hell of a way to lose weight, let me tell you.

Good luck to both of you, and I hope it gets better for you both!

Yeah, the American diet does not do wonders for the body. More fiber for you mister! :D I was told I had a fatty liver too, and not much I can do about that, unfortunately.

Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. :D

Yes ma'am! lol The diet thing shouldn't be too hard. Not a vegi lover though :( But I'm sure I can work through it. I just need to find something to stimulate me into eating.

Unfortunately, your medical issues say otherwise. :( Steaming vegetables is quick and healthy, and the frozen Steamables you can get in the store are very decent. Go easy on the salt and fats for flavoring, though.

Experiment with spices. I like to toss trimmed up vegetables in some olive oil that's been heavily seasoned with basil, parsely, salt, pepper, whatever-sounds-good-from-the-spice-cupboard and some mustard. Roast in the oven at about 350 degrees until tender. The heat really brings out the natural sweetness of the vegetables.
Raw veggies and firm fruits (like apples, asian pears, etc) go great with a yogurt or peanut butter dip.

Too much fiber for me was bad. It irritated things and ultimately made it worse. The important thing is to find a good balance. Which I have a feeling is not always easy to do and probably varies by the person.

One thing I will add is that you included yogurt (probably as an after thought). This is probably the most important thing. My most recent specialist doctor prescribed to me some probiotics that worked incredibly well. Often in the past, the doctor would get me antibiotics which would wreck my system and forcing it to "restart". Probiotics are FAR less intrusive and don't wipe out the good with the bad. There are a number of over-the-counter probiotics you can get, but a lot of that can be obtained from yogurt.

Nah, yogurt is awesome! It really helped me when I was lactose intolerant. Just make sure you get the ones with live cultures. :D I really like greek yogurt - very thick and tangy. Strong antibiotics that make you nauseous can also be counteracted with acidophilus pills (something the hubby's dentist told him and has been a godsend ever since).

Bad news, good news time.

The Bad: My doctor has pretty much given up on my situation. Not surprising. But had me pretty upset to hear "You're up a creek with no paddle". Had me depressed most of the day.

The Good: Went to see my caseworker after seeing my caring physician. And while I was going to inform her of the bad, she actually had very good news for me. As of today I was spproved for General Assistance. The state will provide with funds that I can use to pay bills, see a doctor or pay for medical treatments. Still waiting for approval on SCI (State Coverage insurance) and SSI, but this is by far the best news I've had this year. Hells in the last 6!!!
