A few Pathfinder Newb questions!

General Discussion (Prerelease)

Liberty's Edge

I'm a newb to Pathfinder (but began D&D w/the little box of books). I'm already sold on the new RPG book coming out next month. All of the material is a bit overwhelming (so much of it!) and I have a few quick questions:

I was a semi-fan of 3.5 D&D that thought the latest Star Wars d20 was a good step forward. I didn't like the overall changes in 4e. So I think I will like Pathfinder?

I love the idea of the Pathfinder Adventure Paths. But, will I have to do some tweaking to use them with the new book coming out next month? Will there be new versions of the old Adventure Paths coming out updated for the new rulebook? If not, are there new Adventure Paths coming out soon for the new rulebook?

Thanks and hello.

I will give you my opinion on your questions but thats all they are, since I am just a fan.

To me Pathfinder is coming across as a evolution of 3e. So if you like 3.5 then you should like this. Since the goal is to streamline things a bit and fix a few of the problem area's while keeping the over all core of what 3.5 was.

Some people have been running the AP's with the beta rules and I haven't seen anyone saying their was any problem. So it sounds like you will need to do very little tweaking.

No but I think they have said they will post conversion notes up in PDF to convert the AP's to PFRPG rules.

Thanks and hello.

Yes the new AP that starts in August will be using the PFRPG rules.

Your welcome and hello back.

Welcome to the boards, GreySturn.

I asked when the APs would start to be Pathfinder RPG updated, and the reply from Paizo was in august. Basically from august on everything will be PFRPG rather than generic 3.5. So a new AP starts then, I think (I am no expert and only just starting to pick up of PFRPG now), which will not require any fixes. Obviously PFRPG is supposed to be 3.5 compatable 'on-the-fly' so all the 3.5 stuff is still relevant.

Disclosure: I love 4E especially the simplicity of DMing. I use modules 'cos I don't have the time to make my own. Having read the first 2 APs of Crimson Throne I have decided 2 things:
1. To swap to Paizo APs from the WotC 4E module line, whether I convert them to 4E myself.. or use some one else's conversion I dunno, Maybe I will go PFRPG I am not sure. WotC 4E modules are pretty shallow, Paizos are awesome!
2. No matter what they do to 3.5 for PFRPG, level 1-3 combat encounters are rubbish compared to 4E ;-)

Thanks for the replies folks!

I think I may go with Rise of the Runelords instead of the newest AP. If I get my family group togather, it will include newer players. The Runlords from the introductory text seems more like a "default" campaign more fitting for my players then some of the other PAs.
