Hello! I am new to DMing PbP but would like to give it a try.
As for the game...
Narscint is an enormous terrestrial planet whose surface is nearly ninety percent water. What little surface remains is seperated by large tracts of sea, which rage unpredictably with ferocious and often sudden tropical storms. Until the advent of reliable overland transportation, the people of the archos(a colloquial term for Narscint's land masses) rarely communicated or traded. As the world of Narscint grows smaller, however, an ancient enemy surfaces (most literally) and threatens to take advantage of the isolated kingdoms before they can coalesce...
The game opens on the Dervish, a 'Zindt' (great, mighty) class ship of the Omrian air ship fleet. Captained by Illia Stormborn, the players will begin play as either a member of her crew, or a passenger heading to the floating metropolis of Midsky. If the player has another destiny in mind, feel free to present it, I am fairly flexible =). Any core PHB race and class in the Pathfinder Beta are allowed. Starting HP max HD + Racial, 20 point buy for stats, although I may decide to do a modified array. The players will start at 3rd level, although I could be swayed slightly up or down. I also have some characters pre-genned if the player would prefer. Standard starting wealth by level, equipment anything in the Pathfinder PHB (DM veto rights reserved!)
I plan to run this as an 'episodic' series of adventures, that may not all share a continuous time line. Likely each adventure will last around a month, but that could change depending on how much time we all end up having to play. Be aware that the first episode or so will be fairly strict as far as choice in setting goes, but future adventures will be extremely player-driven, where your choices will make a significant impact on the world and your own destinies. As I said I am new to PbP but not as new to DMing, so bear with me I will be learning tricks along the way.

hi! the concept sounds interesting, im up for a go
possibly a druid? or a cleric
Rav
Hi Raven! As of now all classes are open, but I would prefer as little overlap as possible. If youre interested roll up a character on a new alias and let me know when it's ready! Im only looking for 3-4 players for this first run so a well rounded group will be important.

I've never done pbp; what kind of schedule (of posts) are you looking for?
I like to play human rogue/fighters, smart and personable with a taste for lore.
I plan to check the thread at least once per day, possible twice, but generally in the early afternoon and again in the evening. Plan to post about once per day if you want to keep in the action. If things go well and my schedule frees up, we could plan a "cram session" maybe once a week for an hour or two, just to keep things interesting =).
A note about multi-classing in Scattered Shores:
| Raven34 |
to keep us well rounded as a party i will play a cleric, what kind of gods and domains are there?
I assume i can play a dwarf, what kind of background, in a world mosly covered by water do they live underground, underneath the water?
shall i start posting in the other thread?
are plate mail wearing dwarves a bad idea on a world with so much water?

Wow! Didn't expect this much response so quickly, I will try to answer every question posted...bear with me =)
QXL99 - Multiclassing
When I multiclass, I do keep the levels within one of each other. I start with Rogue as the base class (for skill points) then alternate with Fighter (for feats).
When you say that you follow 2E conventions, do you mean that multi-class characters must be non-humans?
Nope no racial restrictions on classes or multiclassing, not yet anyways. Although i really liked that system I want to revamp it and haven't had the time.
Raven - Domain and Gods (LONG)
to keep us well rounded as a party i will play a cleric, what kind of gods and domains are there?
I assume i can play a dwarf, what kind of background, in a world mosly covered by water do they live underground, underneath the water?shall i start posting in the other thread?
are plate mail wearing dwarves a bad idea on a world with so much water?
Rav
Regarding dwarves, nearly every dwarf in a clan or tribe went underground to fight off the Great Menace nearly a thousand years ago. Neither hide nor hair of the ancient dwarf peoples have been seen since then, although the occasional dwarf would show up from time to time. With the emergence of the Ancient Enemy, the dwarves have begun to resurface and join the lands of the Free Peoples (the floating city of Midsky, the Bay Kingdom of Adenar, and the Port of Storms on the forest continent of Syldonar). Basically most dwarves disappeared, and had begun to reappear over the last two hundred years or so, but in no significant numbers. Most of them are refugees, their clans and tribes shattered and scattered. The free dwarves that stayed behind are largely integrated into the lands of the Free Peoples. There are -no- independent dwarven settlements.
A cleric would be nice =), all domains from the PHB are available, however there are 6 main 'gods', each representing an aspect of the basic makeup of the world. (you can skip the the end if you don't like to read!) Oro, the god of light, the sun, and the creator, is the basic 'Good' god. As an aside, alignment is more for roleplaying purposes, and has few effects outside of certain magical spells and the obvious basic struggle between 'Good' and 'Evil'. *Whew* Being a cleric is fun, but complicated on Narscint so bear with me here. Beyond Oro are the Four Essential Aspects, 'Neutral' forces created by Oro for no particular 'known' reason. These aspects are directly responsible for all creation on the world of Narscint, are tied to it's existence, and also represent the Essential Forces of the world. Fire Air Earth Water, each of these rules a critical domain but have many followers which are in turn their own creations. All of the basic races are descendants of one of the Aspects' creations in one way or another, and that's another story in itself. So through all that, basically choose your domain and your style of cleric and I will let you know where you can find a deity to worship, as it's an enormous(and growing) list.
As far as plate mail goes, most of the airships have pretty decent safety measures, Aeroglass covers a decent portion of the open deck area, so you will not likely just fly out, and travel by conventional aquatic ship is treacherous, if not outright suicidal. It is as hazardous to wear plate or heavy armor in water areas as on any other planet(note that Narscint is roughly one and a half times the size of earth, so while there is alot of water, the land masses are still enormous in their own right)
Max - Favored Enemies
Hi! I would be interested in playing an elf or human ranger (member of the airship crew) if you are still taking players.
*/&\*
By the way, are there any races/monsters in particular that the airship would have encountered or expects to encounter that would be suitable as favored enemies?
A ranger would be neat! Elf or Human, up to you. For the most part, airship journeys are peaceful. Most problems occur between neighboring lands, such as between the different desert clans of Omri as they vie for the Emperor's throne and their limited resources(water), or the different Elven kingdoms in their ancient feudal squabbling. As for a favored enemy, it's hard to say, as one area may be entirely Humanoids, and the next big battle may be against a magical beast. It's hard to say because I tend to improvise. That said, I would go with a more character based approach. As a 'high' elf, honestly other elves or dark elves would be a good choice, as that has been their main enemy. As a forest elf, magical beasts have been their concern for the last generation or so. As a human, any of the goblinoids(orc, hobgoblin, ogre, etc.), or possibly undead, have caused them the most problem over time.
mord - Bloodlines
I will create a Sorcerer then to balance out the party. Any problems with any of the bloodlines in your world? Was thinking of going Elemental(Water) since the world is pretty flooded.
Sorcerors are neat. There aren't any particular conditions that prevent or exalt any particular bloodline. Water is a large theme in the world, though adventures won't necessarily always take place in or near water.
spinningdice:
Well, looks like you've already got 4, but in case someone drops, or whatever I'd be interested.
Quite fancy a Half-Elf Bard, though I'm easily flexible.
I'm very tempted to try and take 5 players but I think I am going to stick with four for now. Keep an eye on this thread if you are genuinely interested, it will bump when I am looking for new players. In the mean time, if it interests you, you can keep up with the game on our PbP and discussion threads. Thanks for your interest =)
*Whew* with that said, recruitment will be closed for the first episode of Scattered Shores. Please roll your 3rd level characters, and post in the discussion thread with the alias that contains your new characters. Please direct all future questions, concerns, japes and jibes to the OOC discussion thread, until play begins. I am extraordinarily busy this weekend, but I hope to get rolling sometime next week, as early as Thursday? But I will be playing it by ear. Thanks everyone, talk to you soon!

I am likely to be re-opening recruitment for this game. I had to go on an unplanned hiatus, and may have lost a couple players. I currently have one player I am pretty sure is playing, and am seeking up to four more. Is there any interest out there? Looking to play Pathfinder Core, anything released after August 09 by Paizo is viable with permission(from me =P). If you'd like to look over the game so far, here's a link to the gameplay board.
http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/playByPost/scatteredS horesEpisodeOneStrandedInMidsky
The game will begin(again) as the crew of the Dervish lands in Midsky, a giant floating metropolis. After their harrowing journey, and the loss of a few crew, the crew and passengers are looking forward to a bit of shore leave. As well, the Dervish will be dropping off cargo and passengers, and looking for some new opportunities. The current players have been tasked to help keep the Dervish safe while they are at port, and to figure out what is happening in the world, that a simple passenger ship like the Dervish would be so assaulted. New players may suggest whatever they feel makes sense for them to either join the crew of the Dervish, or it's new temporary security detail. Various flyers have been posted on many public notice boards throughout the city, and the reward is advertised as 'substantial, should you discover information'.

I like concepts with 'water-worlds' :D and all the unusual travel modes, accoutrements and cultures that accompany it!
I'd like to raise a hand fora player position if you are still seeking players for this PbP. But I'll spend some time reading thrhough what's already been laid out for you world, geography and cultures.
Are they specific house-rules to look out for?
By the way, I only have access to the BETA, and although I know the latest release is only USD 10; I have trouble making an online purchase from my country. However, if I'm welcome to use those rules as long as someone is willing to point me and guide me through the changes if I'm accepted and once my character concept is set.
Thank you.

A short smiling halfing dressed in blue leaps upon a table and addresses those interested in the airship protection job. While he speaks he flails his arms in great exaggeration and mimics any actions he talks about.
"Greetings all! While I'm saddened at the loss of those friends I just made, its always fun to make new friends out here! This airship really is quite exciting, with dancing, music, good food and even the occasional miscreant that needs putting down! Although I originally was traveling to Midsky to visit my family, this ship ended up needing my help and I couldn't refuse the call of Lady Adventure. Anyways, I hope to see you all aboard!"
I believe I'm the only returning member of the original game. I'm a sorcerer so as you can see we could use any and all classes right now.

Okay, well I have this character, who was created for Val's Homebrew II. There's Desvartes who was created for Ogre's Legacy of Fire adventure and then there is Crystal created for Expedition to Tharkad-Kûl.
So, if creating another character, would it be all right to maybe try my hand at something from the Legacy of Fire players compendium? Or are they a little too 'tough' for the adventure?
Here's to hoping we do get to adventure together. :)

I forgot to mention Antal as a feature in the game =D! You may play any class you want; while I prefer a 'balanced' party for simplicity's sake, I can work with any party type. What's important is that you play the character you want to play.
Character creation rules are in the first post of the thread, and we will be using the Beta edition of the rules, as it seems not enough people have caught up yet. If you do have the Core release, and wish to use something from there(feats, class features, etc) that will also be allowed at this time. Anything released after August 09 in the paizo catalogue is viable.
I am pretty sure everything you would need to know about the world is in this thread and the OOC discussion thread. Any other questions I will be more than happy to ask, but please skim these threads first, in the interest of expediency =).
All three of you are welcome to join, please have your level 3 characters ready by Sept. 1st. 20 pt buy, standard wealth by level, 1st level HP Max HD + Max Racial HD
