The Price of a Slave

Legacy of Fire

Does anyone know how much slaves buy and sell for in Katapesh? I haven't seen this information anywhere (granted I don't have the Katapesh Guide, so it may be in there...it's on my shopping list, though!) This question just came up in my LoF game.

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know if it's in there but I had a campaign where slavery was legal and I think I set the price of slaves as equel to 1 yrs wages for their class/profesion. since one of the PCs was a slave (owned by another PC) this made poor little Mikli VERY valuable as she went up to about 16th level.

I imagine the going rate for a slave would vary greatly depending on many different factors, including race, gender, age, physical condition, marketplace factors, bulk discounts, what sort of slavery the person would be suitable for (household slave, menial labour, gladiator, prostitution etc).

In Legacy of Fire 3 it mentions in the adventure that

Spoiler:
a 50gp fee needs to be paid to the city to buy a slave’s freedom in Katapesh – or at least the specific slaves mentioned in that adventure.

So if that slave makes two silver a day and works five days a week then that's about right for a year's wage.

Does slaves have days off?

The Bazaar of the Bizarre-article in PF 21 mentions one shop in the Nightstalls selling slaves.. I think it says the prize is 100 gp per HD.. a little much I think.

200 gp per HD actually. But that's the Extraordinary Slaves stall, so regular slave would probably be cheaper.

The aberrations supplement, Lords of Madness, has a short bit on pricing slaves in the section on the neogi (pp. 100-101).

As another poster has already mentioned, there are many factors involved. However, the base method was as follows:

cost = (CR, minimum 1)squared, x 100 gp

Maybe it's just me being naughty (;P) but I presume that "fee" means an additional payment here. So it would cost the market price (at the owner's discretion) AND that fee.

I mean, if you recreate a cruel slave society where profit is the most important thing... Make profit count...!
