Amele Barret in the Skinsaw Murders? (possible spoilers?)

Rise of the Runelords

Liberty's Edge

My group is in the middle of the Skinsaw Murders, just about to head off to Foxglove's mansion for some haunted fun.

I figured if they survive, I'd like to throw in an encounter with the widowed Amele Barret from Burnt Offerings, once they reach Magnimar. In Burnt Offerings, I threw in the encounter about her sister coming to get her, and scolding the PCs for not getting there earlier.

Now I'm torn whether to go tragic or hopeful with her story. The two encounters I have in mind are?

Hopeful: The PCs encounter Amele doing quite well for herself and her children. She's working as a merchant's clerk in the Bazaar of Sails or some other similar job.

Tragic: Amele never recovered from the death of her husband. She lives under the Shadow of the Irespan, and barely acknowledges her children. Perhaps she's working as a streetwalker or is a beggar near the Shadow Clock.

In either case, she could be a source of info about the city for the PCs.

Thoughts? Ideas?

I think this is a great idea.

I love the idea I would probably go hopeful maybe even "forgiving" the heros. The adventures are dark enough in some places that it wouldn't hurt to give the heros a little "warm fuzzy time" to make the characters feel better.

Great idea. We ran through most of Foxglove Manor tonight, and the players really bought into the fear factor. Half an hour into the session, they were jumping at every corner. They've done some great roleplaying too. They're about to tackle the caverns beneath the manor and face Aldern, so I think they would like a nice rp reward of Amele letting them know that they helped her.

Just started that adventure myself and my players are already scared witless especialy the target of the skinsawmans lust wondering who's gonna be next (on victim #6) and I can't wait to get the house...I've been forshadowing since before Thistletop with missing stuff from the pretty Elf Druids home.

Happy Gaming!

Nice ideas, I'm a sucker for tragic stuff however:) Glad to hear that the skinsaw man is still freaking people out with his passion.

And it’s always nice to hear from your Mr. Pett.

Did you ever run this yourself ?

Any thoughtful hints in running the mansion itself (and the skinsaw man) from the Maestro who created it ?

Great idea, I wish I would've remembered that when I was running the adventure!

Yes I liked the idea a lot too thanks for sharing it darkeyes777!

I think this is one of the few possible interactions between NPC not thought by Moonbeam in his wonderful story.

Moonbeam do you think you could write down a list of what you would change/add to your story hour/adventure if you could play it again?

Oh boy, there could be a lot of little things I would do differently, but the main ones would be:

- to ask my player to make one of his PC's a native of Sandpoint.

- to add a few encounters in Magnimar for the 2nd half of the Skinsaw Murders to make the cult feel more active and dangerous.

- to remove some monsters from Fortress of the Stone Giants and the Spires of Xin-Shalast to make them faster and easier.
