Howdy everybody!
A question about purchasing equipment: how much starting gold and is there anything we CANNOT purchase (i.e. magic)? Okay, that's two questions. Still updating my character profile; should have some background up by tomorrow.
In the equipment section there is a table which shows the starting gold for each class. For a rogue, it's 4d6x10gp.
Also, looking at your character, you should have more skills. With pathfinder, when you put a rank in a skill that you are trained in, you get 3 trained points for it.
And you are welcome to buy whatever you can afford. :)
| Nils |
Nils is of Chelish parentage, they left their homeland to start a new life away from the horrors of Chelish devil worship.
They were well off and at one point Nils was a lazy layabout, but that changed when he was found trying to help one of his younger sisters to study magic, his parents overreacted and he found himself apprenticed to a family friend training as a caravan guard.
He was left for dead after gnolls raided the caravan he was working with and he barely managed to survive the trek back to civilisation before he was outcasted over his miraculous survival.
Leaving Katapesh he managed to find work heading south eventually reaching Andorra where he met the others before they reached the starting place of this adventure...

So...does that mean I need to roll my starting gold or do we get full gold to start?
Thanks for the heads up on the skills - still getting used to Pathfinder.

The forest where this will be taking place is called Arthfell forest. Arthfell forest lies in Andoran. What you know of Andoran is that it's viewed as troublemakers by the rest of the world and has unwanted idealogical imperialists. Andoren started around 3,000 years ago, where it eventually broke ties from the ruling of Cheliax. Andoren gets it's wealth from precious antiquities from other lands. Andorens also seek not just to transform their homeland, but to export their culture, philosophocal, and mercentile beliefs to the world.
The nation is now a democracy, with people of all sorts of different background as part of the huge bereaucracy. Arthfell forest lies close to the city of Augustana. Augustana has the largest and most important shipyards and dock facilities of the Inner Sea. The first bank of Andoren also lies in Augustana. Also close to Arthfell forest if the Necropolis of Nogortha, which is the last graveyard of the barbarians who inhabitated Arthfell forest.
And go ahead and give me a history check to see what you know about the history of Arthfell forest.
If you make a DC 15:
When you begin your group will be heading down a trade route on the edge of the forest. I will let you all come up with a reason for heading down the route. The only safe refuge in the area is the Travelers Stop Inn.
If you have any questions about Andoren, I will try my best to answer.

For this play by post, I would prefer if you all would use Invisible Castle for dice rolls: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/
Or if that doesn't work for some reason you are free to use dmtools dice roller: http://www.dmtools.org/dice.php
If you wish to speak directly to me with any questions, please use a spoiler tag
When we start this, if you are going to be gone for a long period of time, please let me know and if you don't mind, I will control your character for the time being to keep things going. If there would be any actions you would like to set up for that character while you are gone, let me know and I will be sure to do that for you.

Hi, sorry for the absence.
My character is a sailor from the big city of Absalom. Anybody been there?
Background:
Later he joined the Absalom navy. His open disrespect of officers doomed any chance of promotion. But he never once switched over to the pirates' side, which many sailors do.
| Feona Farstrider |
Background:
Born to the Longtoes clan in the chaotic River Kingdoms, her family were hard workers but just couldn’t earn enough to keep their large brood of children in food and clothing. So, they left their homeland, traveling south, and eventually joined up with a traveling band of Varisian nomads.
Feona grew up among the nomads, learning their ways and worshipping their gods, and her family felt “at home” for the first time she could remember. This way of life stirred her wandering and pilfering nature and at the behest of her friends and adventuresome cousins, the Roundbellys, Feona decided to trust in the guidance of Desna and so she struck out on her own, wandering from town to town, heading south toward the Inner Sea.
She traveled across Andoran, eventually reaching Augustana where she has been for about a week. She loves the port city, but her gold is running out, and she wishes to be on the move again.
From tavern talk, she has learned about the Arthfell forest north of town. (Invisible castle roll: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/2018874/) The history of that forest sounds intriguing and so she decides to trek up there and see what else she can learn.

"Really? Never heard of the place. But then again I spent my reformative years travelling across a desert so you can't have everything I guess," Nils replied.
Don't have Knowledge/History only knows that Cheliax is a very bad place that made his parents seriously leery of magic, Andorra is full of forests, lakes, woods and lots of places for ambushes with the occasional place to get a drink... could be worse...

"Sure you can," Feona giggles. "You just need a mighty big box!" Then she says, "I've always wanted to visit the desert - what is it like?"

"It's hot, there's precious little water outside of the few oasis's and of course the settlements, then there's the dust storms some of which have been said to strip the flesh from your bones although why you'd would want to stay out in the open when a storm's approaching is beyond me... oh and watch out for gnolls they're really nasty and when they say there's no good gnoll like a dead one its because they're cannibalistic and that's one of their better traits..." Reg counts on his fingers.

Feona listens with wide-eyed attentiveness and then replies, "Our troupe was once attack by gnolls when I was a girl; I remember hiding in a wagon with my Ma and sibs while my Da helped drive them off. When my Da returned he was grinning and wiping blood from his knife. Desna protected him, just like she does all of her wandering children, and we had a huge celebration that night when we camped - offering her gifts and thanks for victory over the gnolls."
She looks up at Nils and smiles as they walk.| Nils |

Nils fingers his holy symbol.
"Yeah, she helped me too," he sighs remembering something awful but at least he's in a brighter mood than he was moments ago.| OnyxTigress |
I am very excited to get this started too.
While Feona and Nils are taking, they are approached by a nervous looking Varisian man. He pauses for a moment, wringing his hands and looking around the place. "You two certainly look like tough people. My name is Luca Hanzi, and I am looking for some help. I need some adventurers to watch over my family and I as we are travelling. I will pay you well, 50 gold each for the trip. I need you to take me to the Travelers Stop Inn." He looks around once more, then back to them, "And if you know of anyone else to bring along to help with the job, I would be willing to pay them as well."

"Sounds interesting enough for me, wasn't there a sailor back there looking for work?" Nils asked Feona.

Feona smiles at Luca and asks, "Is something the matter, sir?"

His eyes widen slightly, and he shakes his head, "Oh no, I am just very nervous. My wife, she well, I will just say that she is a very jealous person, and does not often like me to go out on my own."
You hear nothing out of the ordinary. He is just a very nervous man it seems.
There is also a nifty code you can use to make the links you post clickable, makes things a little easier on my part. :)
| OnyxTigress |
He smiles widely, standing straighter and looking much less nervous. "Wonderful! I would like to get going as soon as possible. I am looking to have four people escort myself and my family though. I feel much safer having two people in front and two people in back of my caravan. If you need horses, I am more than willing to supply them for the trip as well."

Group decision: How long shall we give our fourth player to respond before recruiting another? I would like to get this started around Tuesday.
I don't even know who the other two players are - haven't heard from them in days. But if you want to start Tuesday, I'd say sent an email to player 4 and if you don't get a response by tonight, start recruiting and hopefully start by Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning.

The fourth is supposed to be Dorje, looks like he has a character made but there are no posts from him since he last posted in the thread looking for players. Doesn't seem like there is a way of contacting him since he left no email address. I am unsure what to do then.
| Feona Farstrider |
In my experience if a player hasn't posted in nearly a week for a new game, then that player is gone. Now, this is not true for every player, but it was for JZ and I'm betting it is for the 4th player too.
Assuming you want to continue with this game, you have two options (well, really three):
1/ Recruit...NOW!
2/ Begin play with me and hopeless while you recruit
3/ Play an NPC and run the adventure with three characters
There's probably other options, but those three come immediately to mind.

Hey all. Just to let you know, I'm setting up a Dwarf Cleric of Torag for the group. It's been a while since I've rolled up a 3.5 character and I'm not used to the Pathfinder rules, so bear with me. If you want to get started, be my guest. I can RP the character without the complete stats, though I should have enough usable information by the time the first dice rolls get going. ;)
| OnyxTigress |
There is currently no rush, I have decided to look for a fourth player since I have not heard from the other person in a week now. So currently I am not quite sure when things will start officially, hopefully tomorrow night or Thursday.
But feel free to chat in character as the others have on here to get to know each other.

Welcome aboard Jacob! I play Feona but just wanted to say "howdy" as Hedgeknight! :)
Your character looks solid! Don't forget that you get extra skill points in Pathfinder. (I didn't know this until Onyx pointed it out to me. LOL!)
Looking forward to reading your background.
| OnyxTigress |
Standard hit points.
And looking him over, I thought you only had one domain, but I just didn't see that they were crammed together, sorry! My mistake.
And just as a reminder for those who are not yet familiar with Pathfinder, for each level that you take the class that your race is favored in, you either get one hit point or one more skill point.

Yup, for skills that your class is trained it, when you put a rank in it you get 3 trained points for it.

First level.

OK, I am going to get this started now, after I make a quick post to get Berenthor included with the rest of you. I am still going to look for a fourth player, but I can include that person a little later.
For Berenthor:
| Jacob Lewis |
Check, check, and fixed. I've already added the additional skill point for favored class, as well as the extra skill points for trained. I was considering a cleric/fighter build, but with these new rules, I might just go straight cleric!
I'll work up the background as we play and reveal more through roleplay. Sometimes it's better to 'feel' a character out, and there's nothing that can't wait or be improvised for a few days. ;)

I'll whip up a character and join in if you don't mind. Looks like you have a rogue, a cleric, and a ranger so far, so I'll add an arcane component to the group. Probably a sorc because I've been playing a wizard recently, but a wizard who is a bit more offensive could be fun too. Or maybe an conjurer. Hmm. In any case, if the spot is still open I'm in.
I know you guys have already started, so I'll try and have my char up and ready for approval today and I don't mind if its a couple days or whatever before you hit a good spot for me to join.
