Huge spoilers! Read at your own risk!
So my Friday group has just come to the end of "Burnt Offerings". Malfeshnekor nearly tore the party cleric in two (brought him to -2 with two bites, thankfully Close Wounds saved him long enough to let him flee). The party captured Nualia alive, along with Orik Vancaskerkin and Lyrie Akenja. Lyrie was a mix of crying and anger (especially since her cat was tied up), while Orik was more into hitting on the group ranger and offering his mercenary-like services ("I only got paid to guard the damn woman, you don't *need* to tie me up if you caught her, my contract's done!"). Either way, Orik and Lyrie have been bound and are being led back to Sandpoint together. Nualia they decided, wisely, to keep her unconscious, the party barbarian knocking her on the head whenever she wakes up.
So I'm wondering...how would Sandpoint handle this? Tsuto was already captured and put into custody. Amiko is busy handling the clean-up and re-hiring of the glassworks, and has basically turned a blind eye to her brother ("I have no more brother") and such. She may change her mind later, but I figure she is still recovering.
So four of the five main criminals are going to be locked up. The question is, what would Sandpoint do with them? The mayor? The sherrif? How would they handle the news that Nualia, whom they thought was dead, was the mastermind? Would they execute them all? Or maybe just Nualia? Would they go easier on Orik and Lyrie since they really didn't play a big hand, they were pretty much stuck in Thistletop guarding and researching. Did Orik and Lyrie even commit any crimes? Obviously Tsuto deserves as much punishment as Nualia, he was the only one to literally kill people inside of town (along with do the most to aid the goblins getting in).
I'm really at a loss as to how a small town like Sandpoint would handle this. It would be kind of cool if one or two of the NPCs were released after some jail time, or maybe an escape? Two of the captives are casters, and while Lyrie has no means of casting spells (except those left-over from the battle, which are very few) with her book gone, could Nualia do anything? She was favored of the Mother of Monsters, though she might not be too happy with her having failed, and she is missing her unholy symbol now.
Any ideas would be great. :) Thanks!

In my campaign, Tsuto, Lyrie and Orik were captured. They were brought to Magnimar to be judged. Of course, (based on an idea from a post on this board) I decided that Ironbriar would be the judge handling this case. He condemned them all to a lifetime imprisonment in the Hells. However, he later ensured that Tsuto got out, and he had him join the Skinsaw Cult.
It was a fun way of introducing Ironbriar early on, and to allow for Tsuto to make a second appearance in the Skinsaw Murders. The group fought him at the Seven's Sawmill along with the rest of the cult.

My group captured Orik and had already capture Tsuto.
Given the general feeling in the town, they were tried by the local authorities, with the mayor acting as judge. Their convitions were a forgone conclusion.
(I had arbitrarily decided that Magnimar's preferred method of exicution was hanging.)
The two were hung from the neck until dead.
(Which made my party feel kind of bad, in Orik's case. But, after the deaths in the town caused by the goblin attack, I didn't see any other outcome possible.)

My group captured Nualia who was knocked unconscious and Orik who surrendered.
Orik was simple enough, I felt he was not close enough to the deaths to be given the death sentence, as he was hired by the person who ordered the goblins to attack citizens rather than committing those crimes himself or on his order. I set his sentence for several years, later given to the party to deal with and control.
Nualia was eventually executed after arguments whether the trial would occur within Sandpoint's more haphazard system or Magnimar's more refined system.

Wasn't an issue with my party. They wanted to capture both Tsuto and Nualia, but timely crits eliminated that possibility. They did capture Lyrie, and tied her to a table top to use as a stretcher to haul her back to down, but they hadn't discovered the bridge trap yet and it collapsed as they hauled her across, causing her (and Skivver) and one of the characters to die.
They never saw Orik (they hadn't come across him before Lyrie, and without Lyrie and every goblin but the wives dead, he took off). I'm thinking he might end up with the Black Arrows after getting captured in Magnimar after leaving.
I like the above Ironbriar ideas for court. Adds a nice twist and allows to bring them back later in some form or another.

Yeah I would have the PCs take them to court in Magnimar gives them a reason to see the big city and to meet Iron Briar. I would condem both Tsuto and Nulia to life in the hells and have any others offered service with the Black Arrows
Tsuto and Nulia I would use during Skinsaw have Nulia be another murderer in Magnimar they have to deal with. Make Tsuto a part of the cult they need combat help against most parties I have read about.

I really like this idea! I can see the PCs pulling off his mask and saying, "HEY! I thought he was in prison! How did he get out of the Hells?"
Great thinking, Moonbeam!

My group captured Lyrie - and Orik helped them sufficiently that they let him go instead of capturing him.
They took Lyrie to Magnimar for trial, at the Sheriff's request. They had the opportunity to testify, and then Lyrie was found guilty, and offered the opportunity to join the Black Arrows at Fort Rannick rather than facing life in the Hells. She accepted.
The PCs then escorted Lyrie and several other prisoners to Fort Rannick. They got to meet a number of people at the fort, as well as see the town of Turtleback Ferry. (I borrowed heavily from Moonbeam's story hour for the people at the fort - HERE. I strongly recommend this journal, it's been a gold mine of ideas to help me as I run this campaign.) I ran a few encounters on the way there and back. I got to scare them with stories about the Ogres of the area, but things have been quiet (if rather rainier than usual, with some flooding) and they didn't encounter any ogres or other giant-kin, much to their relief.
Since then, they've completed the second adventure, and learned that Ironbriar sent Lyrie to the Black Arrows because he thought she would be "useful to my Beloved's sister." They don't know who that "sister" is, so now they intend to escort Shalelu there (she want to talk to her stepfather) and use that as an excuse to investigate...

My players were getting there but kicked in Thistletop, so I had the Riddleport bard recognize Orik as an old acquaintance. They had him turn coat in exchange for letting him take Lyrie away.
They'd already captured Tsutso, and after they killed Nualia and returned to town, they found a heartbroken Orik, because Lyrie had sprung Tsutso and run away.
The bard finally pawned off the Vinder girl on Orik, through a convoluted con. He was glad of getting rid of her (cramping his style) and Orik was glad to have someone. She was a victim of some terrible dice rolling and the fact that she isn't painted as a bastion of morality in any case.
The bard set things up so that Orik believed he was doing him a favor, while he went all sappy and moralistic on her. She did seem the type to enjoy the thrill of cheating on her boyfriend, more than the type to enjoy poetry reading under the watchful eye of a chaperone.
They have a couple of rugrats now.

Orik surrendered to the party that I'm running. Since they didn't have any evidence of him acting against Sandpoint they convinced him that the Sandpoint watch could use another sword. They asked the Sheriff to hire him and I have pretty much had him become a credit to the force after being given an opportunity at redemption.
Tsuto was sent to Magnimar for trial. I only wish that I had thought of using Ironbriar as the presiding justice. Will have to remember that for next time.

My players captured Orik ( and released him later, he is on his way now to join the Black Arrows) Ripnugget (they thought about keeping him as a servant but the Sandpoint People hanged him) and Tsutso.
They accompanied Amiko to Mangimar for Tsutso’s trial where Ironbriar sentenced him to death. One player made very clear that he stayed for all of the trial and the execution, somehow he didn’t trust the Magnimar Justice System :-D
